Peters my 2nd favorite Dr. Tom is the first. The 70's and early 80's were the best years. The Golden Years of Dr Who. Nowadays it just a bunch of silly soap opera crap. With some exceptions like The Stolen Earth, or The Poison Sky. But some stories just make me cringe. The Dr doesn't need a wife. Especially an unatrractive one who looks and sounds like a man. Try telling the idiots in charge of dr who now. Like talking to a brick wall.
@warriorsfan19 thank you for confirming that but from what I read that he signed a 3 year contract but like you said we saw him in action during 1982 but the BBC thought let's say 1982 because of that.
I swear he started in 1981 and did 3 years in the tardis and Patrick advised to do the same like him but all in total he was a brilliant doctor and one of my favorites.
@Alphamask978 Well, Peter did show up on Logopolis in 1981 which was the last serial of the season. But he didn't really get to see him in action until next year in 1982 when the 19th season started. That's why they say 1982.
Tom was my Doctor as a boy...one day I turned the show on...and I'm thinking "Who is this guy, he's not the Doctor!?" I just recently started watching his episodes...and I think he's really good.
Peter Davison is splendid as the Fifth Doctor, he really has great character and style. I was really saddened to see him leave the series. I liked every episode of the Fifth Doctor. "The Caves of Androzani" really is a great story, for the ending of the Peter Davison era,
@jeffman52001 Me too. He was my favourite and also the only Doctor I liked of the original series. His Cricketing outfit was fantastic. He was brave, selfless and compassionate. I wonder what would of happened if he had stayed longer.
The 5th Doctor will always be MY Doctor!! I'm so glad that they brought him back for "Time Crash", which seemed, to me, like a love letter to the 5th Doctor!! It's my favourite 5 minutes of Doctor Who ever. Just perfect!!
"Caves of Androzani was an amazing story-very atypical for Doctor Who- and Peter Davison was amazing in it. I think fans who voted in the Doctor Who Magazine poll got it absolutely right by voting it the #1 story of all time!! :)
Caves of Androzani is one of only 2 story’s from the classic series where The Doctor doesn't really come to the rescue of the planet (or colony) and its people. He laments his insatiable curiosity, but does NOTHING with any of the information he receives, in terms of using it to stop Morgus. His main concern through the WHOLE story is PERI. Everything else is peripheral. Similarly, the seventh Doctor does not really stop Kane in Dragonfire. Time runs out on Kane and he kills himself!
The truth is no matter how much Dr Who they make now, NOT ONE episode compares to Androzani or Talons for that matter. I cannot honestly say Any new Dr Who episode has come close to Androzani (maybe Human Nature) but really, it is untouchable.
perfect doctor!...his gang of companions were not that great...peri was ok...but americans all knew her accent was fake and not north american...(it was"jet-set trans-atlantic"...as our slang smears it here) ulster-scot kevin brannaugh did a chicago detective perfectly he I'd only one ever! /@milwaukee
@flashyshoe011 According to your profile you are in the United States and we do infact have Doctor Who. You can buy the DVDs from the BBC America website, watch the show on BBC America, or if you don't have the channel: download episodes (legally) from iTunes.
I think this should've had some Adric, Nyssa and Tegan in it - he actually got to take care of the whole kindergarten his predecessor had picked up (with the later adition of Turlough) XD I mostly asociate Peri with Six, the two Serials with Davison were more like their... shared backstory.
Tennant used to be my favourite doctor, but that was before I saw the classic series. Now that I have, the Fifth has just taken the lead. But, I love them all. :D
Aww, I <3 Peter Davison, though I have yet to see Caves of Androzani. Not very happy about the fact that ALL of Five's previous companions were ignored and Peri, who he spent merely two serials with, got the spotlight. Nothing against Peri or Nicola Bryant, but something just felt off about that setup :/
My doctor even tho Tom Baker was there for the first 9 years of my life. really wished he'd stayed on for a few more years. Peter Davison will always be the Doctor for me
Anyone who hasn't finished watching this video (plus those who have), stop right now and go and buy it on DVD. This is one story that does not disappoint!
While watching the story, I thought I could see some of Colin Baker come through, becuase at the beginning of the story, and threw out it. He seemed very angry at times, far beyond his usual self. Could this have been on purpose or is it just my imagination?
Peter Davison is still my favorite Doctor. He once told me carrying Nicola Bryant around in the desert all day was the toughest thing he ever did in Doctor Who.
I had such a crush on PD as Tristan, and now just starting to watch dr. Who, I'm delighted to find he was the Doc. It encourages me to catch on the old show. Wish he'd had more episodes, though.
PD had the almost impossible job of taking over from TB. 7 years of TB of the Doc had cemented him as the best ever Doc in most peoles minds. However, PD aquited himself well, and was a very capable Doc. How on he keep his hands off Sarah Sutton,Janet Fielding, & the utterly stunning Nicola Bryant, is of course another question?;-)
Can't understand why you're getting thumbs down for this - you are factually completely right - not that I supported the Falklands War (or any of the other wars/illegal invasions we've been involved in since)
I've just started to watch some of the old series, and while I like Tom Baker I'm finding that Peter is becomeing my favorite Doctor from the original series. He and David Tennant are both fab in my book.
Thx for uploading. Peter is my favorite Doctor; he's the one I dream about traveling with, I like his vulnerability/sensitivity and the way it shows thru his bottling everything up. I like how he cares equally for his companions. I think I enjoy a more human, emotional, and chivalric side of the fifth Doctor (sometimes I forget he's an alien). Also, his relationship w/Peri seems brotherly, I hadn't noticed.
I notice a lot of the clips were taken from "The Caves of Androzani," which I gather is considered the episode from Davison's run in which his Doctor comes across as most heroic. But, hey, 40th Anniversary people, he was cool in other episodes too, you know! :-)

beginning with time index 3:58, Davison details exactly why I think the Fifth Doctor was my favorite. Not a popular choice, I know, but I liked that the Doctor actually realized that his curiosity didn't always help.
Bland? You bastard! How dare you call Peter Davison bland! Have you seen the Last Detective? Peter's awesome in that show, especially the episodes Tricia, Benefit to Mankind, and Dangerous and the Lonely Hearts.
Also, I saw excerpts of Resurrection of the Daleks--man, he was also awesome in that serial! Sorry, just had to let that out.
I don't think Peter is bland, I've met him and he was very gracious person and a great representative of Dr. Who; I just feel his Doctor never got out of the shadow of Tom, (that is until Caves of Androzani, which unfortunately was his last story). I find it strange that Peter is Tennant's favorite; I think Tennant continuously tries to emulate Tom Baker without success, so should at least give Tom credit for his performance.
You've met him? Lucky! When did you meet him? Then again, musical theater fans would call me lucky for seeing Stephen Sondheim--which it is true. If you don't know who Sondheim, he is a major composer in broadway--he composed musicals like Company, A Little Night Music, Sweeney Todd (one of my favorite musicals of all time!), Sunday in the Park with George, and Into the Woods. He even wrote the lyrics to West Side Story! Brilliant Guy.
Met him at a Who convention way back in the late 80s. He was was very approachable and I could tell he genuinely liked to interact with the fans, I could tell he was very sincere just like his Doctor. A friend from the UK told me the BBC's charity event called CHILDREN IN NEED may have a special 7 doctors appearance of:
T. Baker, Davidson, C.Baker, Mccoy, Mcgann, Eccleston and Tennant. My nerd particles shudder in awe of this possible convergence.
RTD is pretty good. But he needs to stop making the companion fall in luv with the doctor. Very soon before we know it catherine tate will be snogging him.
I agree! I loved how Davison was able to have a loving yet not romantic relationship with his companions. I loved the "elder brother" vibe.
I love the new series but I do think it would be better if they could, like in the Davison era, figure out how to write a story with attractive male and female leads that DON'T feel the need to make out.
Tennant's a remarkable actor, I'm sure he can do it.
5th Doc was easily best and his interaction with Peri paricularly in Caves was awesome. Whilst the TB fans are probably the most vocal, there are lot more of Fiveys out there than you would reckon would be the case.
I didn't realize how popular Peter was until I started watching his eps here. All I kept hearing was negative stuff by rabid Tom fans. He and Nicola have aged well. As for RTD mucking up new Who, I agree. He's turned it into a sci-Fi Lifetime Channel show.
Wow Nicola Bryant is still HOT! I don't remember much about Peter Davisons regeneration either, just the total eclipse caused by Nicola Bryants cleavage ;).
stupid new crew they got the year wrong he joined dr who 1981 not 1982 dumbass, shows what they know and tina turner over that dr who clip with peter carrying peri (nicola bryant) in his last ep frikkin gay, very corny!
with what RTD has turned this show into...i dont see how a multi doc story could even work...he's basicly turned dr who into a pop culture sci fi soap opera...which is sad. i have enjoyed some of the 9th and 10th doc episodes...but not like the good ol days of who!
Im with ya mhrkara. Peter Davison's character may have been the most *real* timelord. The other guys, Pertwee, Troughton, Baker, etc. all acted like all this stuff about universal destruction and damnation was one big TV serial on the BBC.
Meanwhile Davison's Doctor actually acted like he cared the humanity and a dozen species might be in danger.
I know what he means about the third cliffhanger ending, but I still believe that the FIRST one is a cracker as well.

Great. But where's the Troughton, Pertwee and Tom Baker segments? Be good to watch those too as I haven't seen them before :-)

Is that guy really called Dale Who?
Oh dear me. Well the recent Time Crash proved many statements in here untrue.

I bet he changed his name to Dale Who.

RTD is pretty good. But he needs to stop making the companion fall in luv with the doctor. Very soon before we know it catherine tate will be snogging him.
The6thSimpson 4 years ago 16

What Dou YOU MEan!? RTD is an amazing script writer

I am getting sick of everyone falling in love with the doctor. For once can we have a good friend. It's getting disgusting.

If they bring back Davison, on the evidence of this video, hope they bring Peri along too!

Wow Nicola Bryant is still HOT! I don't remember much about Peter Davisons regeneration either, just the total eclipse caused by Nicola Bryants cleavage ;).

since eccleston i've be hoping for a multi doctor story, think theres been no "the 4 doctors"
ozzy1181 5 years ago
Russel T Davies has said he would never do a multi Doctor story. I fink its a good idea, but it wont happen while RTD is about.
thundertid 5 years ago
with what RTD has turned this show into...i dont see how a multi doc story could even work...he's basicly turned dr who into a pop culture sci fi soap opera...which is sad. i have enjoyed some of the 9th and 10th doc episodes...but not like the good ol days of who!
JohnLeslieFedUp 4 years ago
I completely agree, Davies needs to go, soon!
ThotPran 4 years ago 2
They need to bring Davison back for a two doctor story with david Tennant!
Xcaliber2001 5 years ago
Its a good idea. It has to be done right like they did recently with School Reunion with Elizabeth Sladen.

the Fifth Doctor is my favorite. :D
thanks for posting this.
mhrkara 5 years ago
Im with ya mhrkara. Peter Davison's character may have been the most *real* timelord. The other guys, Pertwee, Troughton, Baker, etc. all acted like all this stuff about universal destruction and damnation was one big TV serial on the BBC.
Meanwhile Davison's Doctor actually acted like he cared the humanity and a dozen species might be in danger.

note to K9, QUIT SAYING ENGLAND WHEN YOU MEAN BRITAIN> Very annoying!
