I'd say it was eating shrimp. The small, clear, fresh water shrimp usually hang around on rocks in spots like that (maybe they feed on little bits of debris that float past in the water). If you sit still for long enough with your hands or feet in the water, you might see one against the pale colour of your skin (unless you're black! Use the palm of your hand!). I'd say the platypus ate plenty on film there, which we couldn't see.

@Chargersman77 They're actually about the size of a full-grown male alaskan kodiak bear. Some people have special platypus ranches where they raise them and sell them to people who can't afford cars, who can then ride the platypus as transport as they are very speedy and can't get to most places in australia in about 20 minutes.

@mebwire Thanks for your comments. Just lucky to see it and have the camera. We saw it about 100 metres from where the group of people are in the clip. We filmed it from the walkway platform. It was coming and going for about half an hour.

WoW, this is stunning platypus footage. Such a beautiful area to capture it in too. Mossman Gorge. I live couple of hours from here on the Atherton Tablelands and we have platypus in our creek,..... but he looks much more beautiful in that crystal clear water and rapids.
