This is gothic music as Sounds and many other famous jounalists wrote.
Sounds magazine, Joy Division, Leeds live review, 26/10/79, excerpt :
The 'gothic dance music' he orchestrates is well-understood by those who recognise their New Wave frontiersmen and know how to dance the Joy Division! A theatrical sense of timing, controlled improvisation...
@Solon1 THAT'S NOT FUNNY ANY MORE SAYING THE AMOUNT OF NUMBERS THAT DIDN'T LIKE THE SONG ITS GETTING OLD MAN I DIDN'T HIT THE DISLIKE BUTTON IF THAT'S WHAT YOUR THINKING BUT THAT SAYING IS GETTING OLD I AM READING THAT SAME TYPE OF SHITE COMMENT ON ALMOST EVERY SONG I CLICK ON
heres a word i ...or we havent heard in 20 yrs.. and it describes joy divisions performance in this video..more so ians performance..are you ready for the word...........f//king ...teriffic..i know its 1980 blah ..but its the word for these..
The first time I saw Ian I thought he was the most handsome man in the world..He still is and I love his signatures moves...When I found out he killed himself it broke my heart...I was 1 y.o. when this video came up...He's an afrodesiac in my opinion.
Wow wow wow wow Ian Curtis and JD f**king rocked. Excuse me, for most of my 31 years on this earth I have not entertained much outside of Pink Floyd, but in the last few months I have delved deeper in JD with books, films and cd's and my god do I like it. QUALITY!
@exiledstars there is always reason to continue living. Ian choose not to find it and or not see it. I've been a victim of suicide twice over (not that I'm bragging) and in my own opinion there is no validity to the act of it. Coincidently my sister suffers from seizures fortunately there are ways for her to function as close to normal as possible. My point being she is optimistic as hell and enjoys life to the fullest. I don't know Mr. Curtis personally but he did what he did on choice. Not du
True poets are depressed because they realize the truth and what makes it even more depressen is their surrounded by loads of empty vessel humans which will never understand what they see. that kinda explains why loners are loners..alot of people just see things different ya know
They are just losing their place. They used to be very important in art, philosophy, critical thinking, future planning etc.. but the way the world has turned out is pushing them outside. To much glorification of meathead jocks. The powerful people don't want anyone around who can think and inspire.
Thirty plus years later, still no one cares about epileptics. Its called "the orphaned disease" for good reason. All that matters to anyone is breast cancer awareness. Boobs win over brains, a story as old as history.
It wasn't just depression - it was an uncontrolled seizure disorder that killed Ian Curtis. Back then they didn't have many medication options for controlling seizures. It's not just the seizures themselves either; it takes so long to recover completely from each one. If one has them every day, there is no time to recover. So no quality of life = therefore no reason to continue living.
@ExiledStars Also the fact that the medications he was put on had very depressive side effects which added to his situation. He definitely was not in his right mind during his final days. RIP Ian Curtis.
Can't you just feel the stupid fecking vision mixer in the studio freaking - "Quick, cut to the guitarist!" as Ian goes into his most visually mesmerising performance and what made him so unique.
Oh man =/ Poor Ian. He looked like he was barely hanging onto life by a string here. It's almost like you could sense all the pain in his eyes alone and his exhaustion with life. He looks severely depressed in this video my god. It's so sad he wasn't able to get better with it before he took his own life. May you rest in peace forever Ian. Your legend will live on forever.
@395235 What are you talking about ''He looked like he was barely hanging onto life by a string here.'' In 1976 he was loving life, and what Joy Division were becoming, its only in 1978-1980 that he was depressed, and eventually killed himself in 1980.
@poguish Damn you! Now there's five. That's why people should never advertise the number of dislikes on a video. The trolls will come out and spite us all.
