Baltimore is a beautiful city, I visit about once every few years, I love it there. A healthy rivalry is one thing, but to say "your" team was "stolen?" I think Bob Irsay said it best himself... "It's my Goddamned team!" Its a financial investment between an individual and a city/state. It takes cooperation from BOTH to be successful, and your city failed you. Not your favorite teams owner.... He did what he had to do.

I am glad that this video was posted and I agree with most of this video. I hate the fact that Indianapolis kept the Colts name and colors--I just do because it was originated in Baltimore and seeing that horse shoe in Indianapolis just ticks off a lot of Batimoreans. @jh23467 um plenty of people continue to follow a team even after they leave town (just like my family did with the Athletics) particularly if they keep the same name- since it almost feels like they are still the team that you grew up watching.
I think of it this way, many people continue following the teams they rooted for when they were young even if they move to another city why should it be any different if the team moves to another city.

In both cases (Browns and Colts) there was an owner who wanted a new stadium and perhaps even more, a new fresh start in a different market. Any town wanting to get on the map would welcome an NFL team. Both Indianapolis and Baltimore jumped at the chance to take in a team with a disgruntled owner. Bob Irsay and Art Modell screwed their respective cities over.

Actually it's not, the Texans changed their name, because their name was one of those extremely few that had to be changed based on location something I might ad the Browns name was not when Art Modell signed for that team to move to Baltimore and take all their history with them before he changed the team name because the city of Cleveland made him.

Hate Modell or not, he CHOSE to give that name to the owner of the revived Cleveland football franchise, along with the colours and history.
Modell only chose to leave the Browns name behind because the city of Cleveland either threatened to sue him for every single penny he was worth involving them or spent a ton of money either buying the Browns name back or getting it back in court. That's the way things were it was all an issue between Art Modell and the city of Cleveland and only Cleveland just ask anyone from Ohio!!!!!

The people of Baltimore didn't do anything to force Modell, but the tepid- and often hostile- reaction of Baltimore fans to the Browns moving convinced Modell to relinquish the name. That it became part of a court order settling all issues is irrelevant: That was Modell's way of doing it, nothing else.

Wayne Indiana was all about where the greats like the Andretti's, AJ Foyt and the Uncers have the Pistons manufactured for their championship race cars. The blue Colts lasted 30 years in Baltimore and the Pistons lasted 20 years in Indiana.
The Colts name even when you tie it in with horse racing and the blue collar white stallion colors although it fits better in Baltimore still fits well in Indiana and the same thing can be said with the Pistons name and colors for Detroit vs. Ft. Actually the Brooklyn Tigers merged with the Boston Yanks. The name Yanks was created because Ted Collins the man who created the Yanks originally wanted the to play at Yankees stadium. Good point, the city of Indianapolis was not given a chance to re-name their team because Bob Irsay was such a greedy bastard just like Art Model. Then we got the Texans, we got over losing the team quickly, we enjoy a great rivalry with the Titans,and we have a team that can contend this year. Just face it, this guy wasn't a real Colts Fan or else he would have stuck with the team, when the Phillies played the Athletics I rooted for both teams and enjoyed it-the A's ended up winning that game and was sort of happy they did-most of my family-being from Philly-stayed with the Athletics after they left the area so I enjoy rooting for both the Phillies and Athletics. I have no problem with this guy rooting for the Ravens but if he was a real Colts fan he should still root for them as well

In both cases (Browns and Colts) there was an owner who wanted a new stadium and perhaps even more, a new fresh start in a different market. Any town wanting to get on the map would welcome an NFL team. Both Indianapolis and Baltimore jumped at the chance to take in a team with a disgruntled owner. Bob Irsay and Art Modell screwed their respective cities over.

Actually it's not, the Texans changed their name, because their name was one of those extremely few that had to be changed based on location something I might ad the Browns name was not when Art Modell signed for that team to move to Baltimore and take all their history with them before he changed the team name because the city of Cleveland made him.

@tedkissel You can repeat the lie that the city of Cleveland made Modell change the name, but it's still a lie. Cleveland COULDN'T make Modell change the name. He CHOSE to do so. Modell owned the name, etc., and the precedents set by the Davis and Irsay moves in the '80s meant any effort to compel Modell to give those names up was doomed.
Hate Modell or not, he CHOSE to give that name to the owner of the revived Cleveland football franchise, along with the colours and history.

Modell only chose to leave the Browns name behind because the city of Cleveland either threatened to sue him for every single penny he was worth involving them or spent a ton of money either buying the Browns name back or getting it back in court. Cleveland had no standing to sue for the name, which means a threat to sue was meaningless. Cleveland could and did do nothing which would force Modell to relinquish the name. The people of Baltimore didn't do anything to force Modell, but the tepid- and often hostile- reaction of Baltimore fans to the Browns moving convinced Modell to relinquish the name. That it became part of a court order settling all issues is irrelevant: That was Modell's way of doing it, nothing else.

The Colts name in Baltimore was about where horse racing champions are born, while the Pistons name in Ft. Wayne Indiana was all about where the greats like the Andretti's, AJ Foyt and the Uncers have the Pistons manufactured for their championship race cars. The blue Colts lasted 30 years in Baltimore and the Pistons lasted 20 years in Indiana.

Actually the Brooklyn Tigers merged with the Boston Yanks. The name Yanks was created because Ted Collins the man who created the Yanks originally wanted the to play at Yankees stadium. Then as a result 4 years later the Boston Yanks moved to New York and some time in the 1940's changed their name to the New York Bulldogs and adopted the Colts Blue.

Good point, the city of Indianapolis was not given a chance to re-name their team because Bob Irsay was such a greedy bastard just like Art Model.
