  • actually Grant was busy around Petersburg.

  • Enlightening scene: Mrs Lincoln was a former Southern belle accused by the media of being a Confederate spy in the White House; based on one public incident. Confederate general John Breckenridge was a cousin of hers, leading

the opposing action in this Ft Stevens scene. She makes it clear where she stands, after the Union officer is hit.

  • Lincoln loved and admired his reputedly bitchy wife, even when she opposed him. Wish someone would post quotes by her. On entering the Oval Office to find a female petitioner on her knees before the president, with her arms wrapped around his legs, asking for the recall of a family member from combat duty, Mrs Lincoln said "what makes you think your case looks any better from the floor?" Interrupted cabinet meetings to call him to breakfast..

  • If anyone's interested, the entire miniseries is on blinkbox.com for free.

  • =========================

    Lincoln on Slavery:

"I have no purpose, directly or indirectly to interfere with the institution of slavery."

    --- March 14, 1861

"What I would most desire would be the separation of the white and black races."

--- 7-17-1858, fr. a speech delivered in Springfield, Ill.

"I am not in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, or of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people."

    --- September 15, 1858

  • Excellent. Sam is a master actor. Can anyone tell me what film does not take creative liberty? I was always leery of Lincoln but the more I learn about him the more I'm convinced America would have left its long nightmare of racism much earlier. He was an outstanding leader and Waterson seems to capture the spirit and shrewdness of the man

  • This movie was very good -- it's too bad we never see it on TV. The asinine "History Channel" would rather have shows about pawns shops & ice truckers.

  • The historical accuracy of this is questionable. Though some of the events did happen, I don't remember reading anywhere that said his wife accompanied him on the trip to the battle.

  • @wonderweirdo2007 Mary Lincoln was at Fort Stevens with her husband when they both came under fire.

  • Gore Vidal's Lincoln - Train Bound for Glory

  • what's the name of this film???

  • It's simply titled "Lincoln".

  • Gore Vidal's Lincoln - Train Bound for Glory

  • "Lincoln" is the title. Gore Vidal is the author of the book the film is based on. The rest is just a title for the scene.

  • Mary Tyler Moore + a southern accent = EPIC

  • damn, lincoln is in the SHIT

  • I had no idea! This is awesome! Sam is the MAN!

  • sam waterston IS Lincoln. Incredible performance!

  • Thanks for posting this. Great film. Sam Waterston and Mary Tyler Moore were great in this.

  • Very interesting film. It's good to see a different side of Lincoln.

  • Other way around.

  • Waterston is the perfect Lincoln. Take that, Liam Neeson!

  • Do you know who the composer for this movie was? I'm looking for a piece of music that was from a certain Lincoln movie called "hardin county," but I'm not sure which one its from. Thanks in advance

  • DUT - For this movie, original music was composed by Ernest Gold. Go to imdb-dot-com for more info. Couldn't find a listing for Hardin County (maybe Harlan?).
