i don't see what the big deal is. it's not like it was a game changing point. no one would just admit to a call being wrong if it was going their way. they're not playing for recreational purposes, it's a profession. there's a reason that the referee is there. otherwise, we could just play without and would make honest calls all the time.
The Greek player touched the net on purpose, to make it look like the opposition blockers had made a net violation. It wasn't an accident. Besides, you don't have the right to break the rules intentionally just because 'the referees should do their job and call you for it.'
@MrBen51309 if you're going to talk about intent then it seems unintentional to me. he wouldn't put half his hand through the net intentionally.
as for fouling and pretending to be fouled intentionally, it exists in every single sport that's played professionally. infact, the higher the level more is the need for a competent referee.
I think he did do it intentionally for the reason I already said. Professional volleyball players (especially middle hitters) know better than to stick their arm out when they're about to land near the net.
@controverzo #3 for blue shakes the new on purpose to make it look like the blockers touched the net. The blockers (white) were called for the violation.
What's the big deal, it's a net violation. He wasn't even in line with the Polish player, and no contact was made with him. Maybe he was messing around trying to poke him for some fun, but he didn't and just contacted the net.
@bigspoon87 yo captain america remember ben johnson?marion jones?Tim Montogmary? barry bonds? ring a bell? maybe you should stop being such an idiot..like all americans are and a fucking hypocrite and shut up cuz nobody wants your stupid fairy ass opinion
@tintin4561 Couldn't help but notice that you speak English, verifying how much our country rocks, since even England wouldn't speak English anymore if it weren't for us! Also, love Captain America, saw it at the drive-in last night (weird timing), so I hope that wasn't supposed to be insulting, because that's pretty much my idol. As for the American cheaters, we punished them :) Thanks though. And not to condone what they did, but when we cheat, we win gold. :) XOXO
@tintin4561 Hahaha.... Ben Johnson??? He was a Canadian! At least I know he grew up in Canada as a teenager, and ran for Canada during the Olympics. Don't think he every moved to the USA.
@kukoccc i know right. i never understand why people decide to say they hate a whole country. its like an egg telling a barn full of chickens to shut up.
@Nr1CandCshow pls stop talking about my country, talk about volleyball.ok this guy cheated, this is not common for volleyball,i would never do that, and i would never teach that in my kids.but this is a part of life, nothing t do with greece or your country.
@kukoccc I AM GREEK! I AM SUPPORTING YOUR COMMENT! read what i said better before you scold me. im greek too. i said that i never understood why, when people see this, they suddenly hate on greek people rather than just hating on that one player. thats all. 0.o
@whippedboy If I'm not mistaken, the net rules then were (and still are today): 1) Touching top of tape; 2) if it gives your team an advantage (i.e. the setter pulling down the net for the hitter); and 3) interfering with the play...I'm not sure what the bottom ref saw to even call a net violation
the 2010 FIVB Rules says that the player commits net violation when he/she touches the WHITE TAPE of the net and interferes with the opponents game... touching bellow the white tape is no longer considered as violation as long as he/she did not interfere with the opponents game.
I don't really know if this is a fault. I mean it's certainly not fair play but he does not touch the top band of the net, he has no real advantage from touching the net (he does not even reach the opponent - right?) and therefore he does not hinder any other player to play the ball.
@veleda77 He touched the net in order to trick the umpire in thinking that the other team jumped and touched the net, therefore gaining his team a point.
@veleda77 Touching any part of the net was already a foul a few years back. In this video, it really seems like the spiker touched the net on purpose to make it look like the blocker had touched it. but if i were to do that, i would do it toward the end of a game, not a score like 12 -13 =\
He touched the net while polish blocker was jumping up. So it has mistaken the judges - they thought it was blocker who touched the net - which results in a loss of point ;)
i sincerely hope this man never put on Greece's colours in another international competition, I'm not Greek by any means but this is an absolute disgrace to sport. To use unsportsmanlike tactics like that WHILE REPRESENTING YOUR COUNTRY is an embarassment to the sport and to your whole country who chose you to represent them
I think you should be more worried that the 2nd official didn't see that .
I am a fully qualified ref, so I know that he should be watching the defending sides players for net touch/foot fault... it appears to me here that he was more interested in watching the ball (a massive NO NO if you're 2nd ref) missing the OBVIOUS bulging of the net in the defending teams direction, and the also obvious non-touch of the net. Players may cheat, but Refs should get calls like that right.
If you were a qualified ref youd know that the touching of the net is okay as long as it does not interfere with play, this was not interfering at all as the outside hitter had no angle blocker which if the net was not touched , He still wouldve had the point. If he had touched the white strip along the top of the net which is not allowed then it wouldve been called . Also 2nd ref only has authority to call some attack faults, halfcourt violations.and rotation faults only Get it ryt
@ampleant When you talk so fervent about this matter... look at the soccer game between Uruguay and Ghana at the world cup: /watch?v=7Px2NyTlDxE ...
Suarez cheated (or did whatever it took), but became a national hero for that. I do not agree, but it is done and maybe it will be just the help that will tip the ballance towards your team.
@ritzuveveritzu amigazo, theres a huge difference between what suarez did a this, because Suarez used the rules on his favor and he knows he will take a red card after do that, with the hope of Muslera stops the penalty (and he did), that is not a cheat, is in the game rules, but this is different, this is a cheat ( very common i have say) in volleyball, and is very common too that judges dont see it cause the speed of the play and the focus attention on the ball, and feets on invade
