With macro you can have short DOF even on a cell phone. It has to do with the magnification ratio increasing as you get closer to the subject.
The sensor that captures the image in cell phones is so small, that at normal ranges, everything will be sharp, ie. magnification ratio is very small. The lens aperture (there is no real aperture or shutter) is really small too because of the size of the optics. Small formats, small optics and vice versa.
Please add an option to turn autofocus off in the still camera mode. It's only needed with macro anyway. Maybe make it so that it's activated with the macro flower?
Anyone who knows something about photography can tell you that you can't focus on specific things anyway. The format, or sensor, along with the tiny aperture gives you focus from a few feet to infinity at all times.
Autofocus will only slow you down 99% of the times you need to snap away.
It's not just the N900 camera. The camera has very little to do with my decision to buy any phone anyway. Now, if the camera is there, why not make it as user friendly as possible?
Do you really think that when you're autofocusing, it's focusing on something specific? DSLR's need AF, some compact digicams need it, but phones don't yet need it for anything but macro.
Well I don't really know much about photography and all that stuff but I always thought the one holding the camera has to focus on the thing he wants to make a photo off
Also excuse my rudeness in my older post I classified you one of those "youtube tryhards" who just criticize other videos and stuff.
And yeah, only because the camera is bad (which isn't) just because of that people shouldnt buy phones , if they wanted decent cameras then they can buy an ACTUAL one.
I have about 40 cameras of different sizes, been into photography since 95. It is true that you have to focus, but not with a cell phone camera, unless it's macro. It has to do with DOF, or depth of field, which is dependant on aperture and magnification ratio.
With a larger format camera, like a DSLR, you can have a blurry backround and sharp face in a portrait. That is not possibel with a cell phone or other small format cameras. Try it. Everything is in focus all the time.
yea I forgot to say that its an multimedia kinda thing since it has alot of options to offer and for me a 5 megapixel camera, on a collection of software stuff on a multimedia phone, is really good.
Maemo 6 and Flash 10.1 are coming next year. Flash 10.1 already at Q1, Maemo 6 Q4.
Maemo 6 is going to be a more "finished" version of Maemo 5, including the portrait mode. And Nokia is going to update Maemo 5 to support portrait, too.
There are already applications/unofficial patches in portait mode, made by linux-developers.
Not wierd - makes sense. If they squeezed them all onto that screen, the icons would be tiny. But you'll probably never need the applications grid - just open all the apps you use in the day, and then use the multitasker to switch between them.
yes, the on-screen keyboard is the default input method for any application unless you slide out the full keyboard, in which case the virtual keyboard disappears and you can continue typing from where you left off.
NOKIA N900 ITS NOT PANDORA PERO SI SE BASA EN LINUX ITS MAEMO 5 BASED ON LINUX, mmm en mexico llegara al rededor de los $11000 para finales de noviembre o principios de diciembre y pues si, este telefono abatira a el %99 de los mobiles, quedando talvez a salvo el omnia hd de samsung.......solo es una humilde opinion ;)

I believe he(or)she is talking about an online music service (only used in USA/Canada i think) It is like Genius on iTunes, but better. and it's free. You look up a song you like, start the playlist and reject the songs you dont like so it refines the list to your liking. It's really mint. But, only for use in continental United States (MAYBE Can.)

Try this if you have an off button.

If you don't like the way the camera of the N900 is build up, simply don't buy it. Its as simple as that.

Can someone please tell me if there is any on screen qwerty keyboard for one handed operations such as quick testing or email??
benharrah 2 years ago
There is an on screen qwerty keyboard, though for now it's only in landscape I believe.
Nokia are going to implement portrait around Xmas.
