There is more wisdom to be found in the Bible than in any other source. Find yourself a really good Minister or Priest or Rabbi, because it is near impossible to interprest the Bible on your own. You will have a much richer and meaningful and happy life if you open yourself to the Bible.
If all the books that God had written were included in the Bible I'd be more willing to reference it. Seeing as the current Bible was a pick and choose conglomeration by fallible men.... The meaning of the word has changed from the original meaning to something profane, and ergo should not be used. The thing you need to look at is the context of the word and not the word itself to understand if it is profane. If I say that " I have a Labrador bitch" or "fuck, that's amazing".... How is that profane other than what humankind has labeled it as such? The passages weren't meant for words, rather context.

I'm a vegetarian and I try to be 'Earth-friendly,' however, God comes first and I totally agree with you. I really don't like the fact that vegetarians are lumped in with Earth worshipers. I wouldn't want to lump meat-eaters with murderers. Vegetarianism is a personal choice for me. I am TOTALLY against abortion, moreso than eating meat. I know that God exists. I do not think that any of us know what God's name is (other than God). I do have questions about a book that was recorded by witnesses. The reason being is that I know when I witness an incident with 5 other people, and then record what we saw, there are 6 different versions of what occurred. That is why I never take the bible as anything other than stories that were passed down through the years.

Finally, it is hardly petty to make the distinction between murder and killing. If I am attacked with violent force, and react with violent force, I may kill someone. But I certainly did not murder. The attacker, had he killed me, would have committed murder.
Whether or not god has the "right" to kill and torture his creations has nothing to do with my point. I am criticizing this ficticious god's sense of morality. A god that commits acts of genocide and sends his creations to an eternal hell (for often the most petty of reasons) is an immoral god whether or not he has ownership of mankind and made the rules.
As for the second point, it's ridiculous because god does not kill in the bible to defend himself.
Also, even despite god having the "right" to treat his creations as he sees fit, here we are dealing with an all knowing god. So the fact that (as you pointed out) he made the rules makes him an even crueler figure, because he is setting things into motion knowing that he's going to commit these heinous acts to begin with. It's like if I designed a Frankenstein type monster, programmed it to act a certain way and then killed and tortured it for acting that way. Destructive and immoral!

The meaning of the word has changed from the original meaning to something profane, and ergo should not be used. And I do believe the politically correct term is mentally challenged, but it's been a while since I've checked.

Unless one defines what profanity, who is to decide; you or me? My point is that language changes constantly. What is profane today, might not be tomorrow and vice-versa. The thing you need to look at is the context of the word and not the word itself to understand if it is profane. If I say that " I have a Labrador bitch" or "fuck, that's amazing".... How is that profane other than what humankind has labeled it as such? The passages weren't meant for words, rather context.

It does not say in the Bible to say "f*ck". However, foul discourse is never acceptable, if you wish for your message to be heard.
And actually, "n*gger" was never an acceptable term for a black person. It was derogatory term, and will more likely than not remain a derogatory term.

Actually, the term "nigger" wasn't derogatory all of the word's life. It has been for a VERY long time, but wasn't always. As for the word, "fuck", it isn't always meant in a bad way either. It is very much a matter of OPINION as to how you take the word. If I were to say "I fucking love this country", where is the fouler in that? Your dislike for the word "fuck" might make it unpleasant for you, but that's only a matter of opinion.

In fact the majority of Christians think the bible is quite literal, so although you prefer to see it as allegory, you are in the minority... Mother Earth and Sky Father are the bases of Native Religion. Sky Father spead his seed to Mother Earth and Mother Earth became fertile. As for the child sacrifice, I think you are confused by the Aztec Tribes of the Central America. Those ritual of child sacrifice was not done in the main North American Tribes.

The overpopulation of the earth is a myth anyway. Anyone who believes otherwise needs to visit Nevada. There's plenty of untouched land out here that could be turned into useable farmland with a little irrigation.
Sure, some parts of the earth are too crowded, but not the planet as a whole. I've even heard somewhere that if you were to divide everyone on earth into 4 person "families" and give each a good sized home, you could fit them all into an area just a little bigger than Texas.

This is an instance of where God instructed the Hebrews about spoils of war, which is what practically the whole book of Deuteronomy is about. In those times, The Hebrews had more than one wife. I'm a vegetarian and I try to be 'Earth-friendly,' however, God comes first and I totally agree with you. I really don't like the fact that vegetarians are lumped in with Earth worshipers. I wouldn't want to lump meat-eaters with murderers. Vegetarianism is a personal choice for me. I am TOTALLY against abortion, moreso than eating meat. I know that God exists. I do not think that any of us know what God's name is (other than God). I do have questions about a book that was recorded by witnesses. The reason being is that I know when I witness an incident with 5 other people, and then record what we saw, there are 6 different versions of what occurred. That is why I never take the bible as anything other than stories that were passed down through the years.

Not a good argument. I see tons of people talking about abortion here. Why would they talk about it, if they don't believe in it??? I had an in depth discussion about the Matrix today. Well I must believe the world of the Matrix is real then!
People talk about religion because it's one of the most influential things that has effected history and the present. Simple as that.

I my self am an atheist,but I hate the bible bashers. They are a-moralist. They do not like being told that one thing is good,and another is evil. I my self just do not believe. Tho if i where given evidence I would believe. It is also bullshit to say religion causes war. Radical individuals who want to force there believes on you is what causes war. A-moralists? The reason why people criticize books like the bile and the qu'uran is for the sections that show a total LACK of morals... Your "they do not like being told one thing is good and another is evil" is a ridiculous, bogus argument. Folks like Hitchens and Sam Harris will have no problem admitting that "thou shalt not kill" is a moral law, although they will vociferously object to the notion that the bible (or Yahweh) invented and is the reason why we abide by that rule...

@vadimcream Before you wax judgmental, at least recite the morality expressed accurately. It's "thou shalt not murder." And you're right, "thou shalt not kill" wasn't invented by God. We have a human being to thank for that inaccuracy. As for the Bible sections that show a total LACK of morals ... it's a narrative. That's like calling the newscaster immoral because he witnessed a murder.

Not at all. Most of the biggest moral problems I have with the bible are for the acts that Yahweh himself commits. Nothing at all like "calling the newscaster immoral because he witnessed a murder." The newscaster COMMITTED the murder, here.
Also you distinguishing between "thou shalt not kill' and "thou shalt not murder" is petty and btw, I did know I was paraphrasing and did so to stay within the character limit.

@vadimcream Your context is way out of whack. God is the creator of all, including the rules. If He wipes out an entire civilization, it is His to take. Give an example where you think God overstepped His bounds...
Finally, it is hardly petty to make the distinction between murder and killing. If I am attacked with violent force, and react with violent force, I may kill someone. But I certainly did not murder. The attacker, had he killed me, would have committed murder.

Whether or not god has the "right" to kill and torture his creations has nothing to do with my point. I am criticizing this ficticious god's sense of morality. A god that commits acts of genocide and sends his creations to an eternal hell (for often the most petty of reasons) is an immoral god whether or not he has ownership of mankind and made the rules.
As for the second point, it's ridiculous because god does not kill in the bible to defend himself.

Also, even despite god having the "right" to treat his creations as he sees fit, here we are dealing with an all knowing god. So the fact that (as you pointed out) he made the rules makes him an even crueler figure, because he is setting things into motion knowing that he's going to commit these heinous acts to begin with. It's like if I designed a Frankenstein type monster, programmed it to act a certain way and then killed and tortured it for acting that way. Destructive and immoral!

I got you, but I don't come across people atheist that have that point of view really. I think you are perceiving some atheists according to the ways in which they misunderstood by theists. Many atheists don't believe in absolutes regarding good and evil, but those same people usually won't deny that there is such a thing as an evil act...

The bastardization of the environmental movement has come at the hands of progressives. Kind of like personal liberty to neocons. Progressives hate themselves, but fail to understand it, so they manifest it outwardly. Their form of environmentalism is another way to discredit and demonize western culture. Ironically, Progressivism is probably the only political ideal curable via daily meds. Neoconism (ie douche baggery) still requires a large blunt object.

I find it humorous when earth day radicals use God to try and bolster their argument for "going green," and animal rights advocates do the exact same thing as well.
But if you probe a little deeper, you will find that these same people typically don't give a hoot about what the Bible says, rather they do so is an attempt to bring authority to their religious philosophy of worshipping created things rather than the Creator.
