The term "natural born citizen" is of the 18th century. It's meaning at the time was synonymous with native-born {native meaning local}. McCain is not a naturalized, nor is he a natural {or native} born citizen. He was born a U.S. citizen by blood, as well as a Panamanian citizen by birth. The First Crusade occurred in 1095-1099.
You do the math.
The pope was never the emperor of Rome. The pope at the time of the fall was Simplicius (468-483). Romulus Augustus came to power in 475 and was the last Roman emperor.
The Roman Empire had indoor plumbing, excellent roads, the arch, and great poets (Ovid, Virgil). They developed an excellent military too. Most of the world then was mired in filth and ignorance.

As I already told you, the Roman Empire fell in 476. The HRE was created in the 9th century, primarily in central Europe. It was ruled by emperors who were primarily Germanic. They were not popes. The HRE was dissolved in 1806 when the emperor abdicated after being defeated by Napoleon. It's decline was primarily due to the Thirty Years War. Also, despite its name, for much of its history the Empire did not include Rome within its borders.
