  • The video is funny. The lyrics mean almost nothing. The arrangment is even weak in spots, but it remains a very memorable tune from the 80's. THank God for choreography and MTV.

  • Amo!

  • This song reminds me of driving to manchester airport in the summer of 1987. We were on our way to tenerife and the album was blasting out the sterio with the sunshine blasting out the sky. WOW what a great memory and fantastic song.

  • Favourite 80's track of all time!!

  • love this song

  • I fall in love everytime i see Corinne's smile... godamnit, she is so gorgeous in all the ways!

  • a fantastic song played so many times at the middlesex and herts country club brings back good memories RIP M&H

  • Quality sound from the best era in music ever. A song that had a catchy beat and words you could understand. And look no guns or drugs were used in the making of this video. Unlike all the rubbish thats out now a days. It just goes to show you dont need to do a drive by shooting slap your bitch up or tell the world you are gay to sell reccords. This classic song had all that was needed to sell it. Great track great times which i miss so much...

  • great song

  • This was one of the few songs of 'my' generation that I REALLY liked - it's all in the orchestral pop backup, even if it is part synth! I've created playlists by year so anyone can take a time tour back to a particular year. It's a work in progress and I was glad to click this onto the 1987 list! Thanks for all the info you gave about the song - yters who do that are THE BEST ! ! !

  • Real feel-good tune! Does anyone have footage of SOS in the studio?

  • She's beautiful, a real superstar, classy, super glamorous, has a fantastic voice and a great sense of humor! This song is so intense and has great lyrics!!! The boys are so, so fantastic!!!!!!

  • She has class and funny much like Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffany's. :D

  • where's BASIA , THE OTHER SWS

  • BREAK OUT THE 80'S today MTV

  • Her voice reminds me of Basia Trzetrzelewska aka Basia. She started out with Danny White (can't remember name of group). One of her LPs is "London, Warsaw, New York" Her most famous song is "Cruising For Bruising"---I like the 12" mix of it. VERY similar style!

  • Deluxe Music rocks.

  • I absolutely agree with DVL32, and quoting this music is "timeless", they are fantastic, beautiful, cheerful, glamorous, and as I said initially, the music is so fresh and "timeless"

  • I love SOS. This song always makes me happy.

    Jim

  • This was on one of my computer games in the 90s...........i cant rememebr it.

The character was in a barrel.hmmmmmmm.idk

BUT LOVE THIS SONG! ON MY IPOD and im 14 and a guy lol

  • The Hook to this song is not originally theirs. Does anyone know who the original artist is or name of the song? It's a man and I believe its an old soul song.

  • The hook to this song is not originally theirs. Does anyone know the name of the Original artist? I believe its and old soul song. A man sings it.

  • I was 19 when this song hit the charts. It brings back such memories...

  • We jammed to this in the hood back in the day.

  • This is a very bright, intelligent, well mixed record. Nice voicings in the chords and super performance from Corinne!

  • I love this intro

  • I miss 1986-87 circa Britney Spears couldn't and is not even in this league!!! Coran Drewery is so much better than these whining bitches today!

  • I couldn't say it any better, Straycat...Corrine is in a class of her own!

  • One of my favorite songs of all time! Ive played it from the 80's till now! I have it on casett, CD, and Vinyl lol : ) was gonna put it in a mix for you tube. That's how i ended up here. seeing if someone already has. Dj Cas. Lawrence, Kansas

  • The blond guy left the group after the first album, so it's been just Corinne Drewery and Andy Connell for most of the time.

Just got their latest album "Beautiful Mess". Nice album. They've been recording now for 22 years. 12 or so albums in that time with several remixes of various songs. By far my favorite band! Very popular in Japan, of all places.

  • Loving it.

  • this reminds me of reading rainbow

  • It has the same feel :)

  • Vh1 left out some good One-Hit Wonders on it's special, no?....How can you forget Johnny Hates Jazz "Shattered dreams"....Level 42 "something about you"....Love and Rockets "so alive"....Murray Head "One night in Bangcock"???

  • Dude, there's no C in Bangkok.

  • i remember this song as a kid. Great

  • 1985..or 86......reminds me of high school...great time.....for more old school...check out my avorites list

  • I was 28 when this song came out, I am now 50 and still feel 28. Would be nice to pull back those years. Just glad it still touches my soul. Ha. Like the late 70s. Feels good to feel young through music.

  • great song...happy...fun...and uplifting...lol...so 80's.....miss the happy music man...everything is so tainted about sex now days...for more old school...check out my favorites list

  • First 18 seconds sound like West end Girls -Pet shop Boys.

  • I completely agree!

  • This song is as much fun to listen to today, as it was in the 80's Corinne is the BEST

  • Hey I Agree, This song is as much fun to listen to today, as it was in the 80's. Corinne is the BEST

  • what a feel-good song!

  • But they are still popular here in Japan!!

  • Yes, Swing Out Sister is a one hit wonder in the USA but sometimes that's all it takes to get noticed here.....!! One hit wonders are the songs that get really noticed and memorable like this song.

  • one hit wonder? 2 hit wonder . am i the same girl was a hit wasnt it?

  • Maybe in the US, Swing Out Sister was a one-hit wonder. But outside the US, they have dozens of Gold and Platinum hits.

  • right

  • This song is still great 20 years later!

  • you stink you faty

  • Really great tune!

  • Corinne is a former Model and she can sing as well, that alone is awesome. Corinne is an amazing woman, she has beauty that is rare and she is genuine too. This song was and is still a great song after all this time.

This song has a pet shop boys sound and it is a totally 80's song. There will be no decade like the 80's that put out more one hit wonders than any other.

  • RONALDO!!!

  • I agree with you, ennui. I had the hots for Corinne back in the day and come to find out I still do!

  • That's because a woman as beautiful as Corinne has a beauty that is just timeless. Her sexuality is powerful but understated. I'll take one coy glance and wink from Corinne Drewery than all the navel gyrations and midriff-baring of a Madonna or Beyonce. Not to mention as a vocalist Corinne could sing them all under the table. Corinne is just the complete package: beautiful, sexy, talented, accomplished as an artist.

  • ummmm, lets be real here. This lady cannot outsing Beyonce. I don't like alot of Beyonces music, but she can definitely sing. Corinne can outsing Madonna though.

  • Corinne Drewery is just unbelievably gorgeous, especially the concluding sequence as a fashion model doing the runway bit. Zowee! Corinne is the world's most beautiful woman.

  • Truly, one of THE best songs from the 80's....yeah, baby!!!!

  • RONALDO!!!

  • Underrated song and singers.

  • A song that was ahead of its time and still sounds great today

  • this is a great song

  • grandiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii

  • I am sooooo motivated by this song!!

  • I told my pal Mark Millar (of "Wanted" fame) that Swing out Sister were so called because Corrine was a Nun. I think he still believes it!

  • LMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • 1987!! FANTASTIC SONG AND VID!!

  • They are the opening act for Metallica this year.

  • lol followed by the jonas brothers

  • Yes, this was a good song....it's one of those feel good songs you just want to play over and over.

I liked the video also, the singer is so pretty and i remember seeing this video on MTV back in 1987. Oh how the years just keeps going by.

  • For those with good ears...

The roots sampled this for the song called "Quills".

    Can't y'all hear it?

  • i danced to this song when i was in high school

  • She always seemed to me like she'd be a stuck up you know what.

    Saw it on VH1 too!

  • saw it on Vh1 too. great song!

  • I love this song. Just saw on Vh1, they're big in Japan.

  • A great European synth pop group. They had some really good songs. I liked this song but liked "Twilight World" better. Corrine Drewery was a real cutie.

  • Awesome! I loved the whole album! What happened to her anyway?

  • As noted, apparently they're still quite popular in Japan. In fact, according to the VH1 show, they're currently working on their 10th studio album!

  • She is soo beautiful in this video. Just an amazing feel-good song. Timeless. It'll be used over and over again by filmakers to express its unique feeling for years to come.

  • Cool song! Corinne is so sexy!

  • This was out when I lived in London in the 1980s and every time I heard it (and still do) it makes me feel so happy! Classic song.

  • UK's Pizzicato Five. I don't care. They're decent enough. Thanks for uploading.

  • one of the most underated of the 80's. an absolute classic

  • An absolutely tremendous song, brilliantly performed. I first heard this in an aerobics class and found in my the local record store. It was over a decade before I saw the video. Thankfully, it only adds to the pleasure of the song. Corrine is amazing. Talk about charisma! She is so natural and unaffected. She is a real joy to behold! Bless you, Miss Drewery! You are dazzling!

  • she is like fine wine

  • I think this song is the best song of all

  • tis a cheesy classic, recently reheard it on a flight back home from india, took me back. i love it.

  • this song gives me the chills. i heard it in the grocery store yesterday and i had to look it up. i love this song. BREAK OUT

  • Corrine, this is for you: ANYTIME, ANYWHERE, ANYHOW

  • One of the best from the 80's.

  • Pure voice, very up beat tune....never tire of it.

  • Best ending in a musical video that I've ever seen!! The last 35 seconds are so cheery and heartwarming! .Bravo, Miss Drewery!!

  • what a babe

  • check out Siouxsie and the banshee........

  • Great song. I thank this song and group for giving me the courage to breakout from my abusive, violent parents and run away. Joined the army never looked back. Thanks swingout sister.

  • Great sophisti-pop song! I Love Corrine, she reminds me of me! (I know, a bit Narcissistic)

  • blimey!!! i remember nursing a sore heart in 87' thanks for getting me through it!!! very very belatedly :0)

  • What a pure, wonderful voice!!!

  • 1987 !!! what a great year for music

  • You are so right!!!! I loved that year's music!!!!

  • I agree!1987 music was amazing!

  • Great words in this song.

  • i always thought this song was by gloria estefan?

  • me too :P

  • I was 2 years old

  • iv been looking for this song for the longest time im still in love with it i LOVE it

  • I think this was one of the last 45's I bought in history!!

  • ...I used to be obsessed with this song when it came out in '87....I was a weird 7 year old....and I still like it.

  • A nice video, but geez you think they could have spared the expense to pour their champagne in a glass instead of a cheap paper cup ?

  • This was to show they were just making it.

Guess some people never know what it is to be part of the yat club.

    YAT=Young and Thirfty.

They are simply cool, hip, elegant and smart and like I always say simply smashing.

Every woman I knew want to be Corinne and often copied her style of dress.

Still a great group and Corinne brings a hot smokey look to the video.

Glad to see them out touring again.

  • Drinking champagne from a paper cup could well be seen as breaking out ;)

  • this realy a great song from 80's this great

  • Breakout! i was in the 1st grade when this song came out! I love the 80's!

  • Wow this song has held up well after 20+ years. Well produced. Check out Propaganda's "1234" from around the same time.

  • I thionk its good , and has a wee catchy tune.

  • music in the 80s were the best

  • Agree!

  • Great track, and how gorgeous was Corinne Drewery? Still is.

  • ill stick my neck out now and suggest there are no live musicians on this song, this does not detract from the song it adds to it,its a dx7 bass no doubt, but that brass section is so phenomenal i cant be sure, anyone got any info on this? thanks.

  • Cheerful, upbeat song from an era where pop seemed simpler..... but somehow better as well

First heard this nearly five years ago (and as well as developing a crush on the singer at the time, I haven't stopped listening to 80's music since)

    Great song all around

  • Best song eva From Maisie + Sally! Ur nieces! In Lincolnshire! We love u 4eva! xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx!

  • She is beautiful and has an amazing voice!

  • i agree. this song is my shit.. I heard it for the first time about two years ago!!!!!

  • Hey, I was talking about Corinne's eye's. I'm in love with HER !!!!!! No homo for me. No offense meant.

  • I'm putting this song on my driving CD....hope I don't get a ticket for driving too fast!!!! It's such a great song, baby!!!!

  • Blimey !!!! Swing Out Sister has "killer" eyes. I'm in love.....Great song, great memories of the good times....

  • I love this song. I am a straight guy who loves women, can't help it. The girl looks a lot like Demi Moore in the end, and I really like that. I don't look for really deep messages in most songs, probably better that way. Great song.

  • I love this song!

    It's makes me happy!!

  • Frais et sympathique

  • Sheesh. I love the song and the way she sings it. I'm straight and had no idea it was in any way controversial. Perhaps orvgg thinks its about freeing yourself from societal stereotypes which still apply to gays (although less now than 30 years ago). Yeah, I can go with that but on a more basic and deeper level, its just about being yourself and that applies equally to everyone.

Anyway, it was good to see the film clip. Loved it, enjoyed it and moved to it! :)

    All the best.

    Tom.

  • I thought that the song mite have been about coming out...But there are no overt clues in the lyrics.. good observation..

  • so is this song about a person breaking to be gay or something.

  • Not in my books. There is nothing in the lyrics or the film clip to suggest that it is about gays. As I write above, I think its just a song about getting out there, being yourself and having fun. No matter who you are, what your sexual orientation is, where you were born/raised, how old you are, what job you do, married, single, de facto, engaged, widowed, whatever. Live life fully, honestly, healthily, happily and lovingly. I'm not gay. I absolutely adore the song. I dance to it. All the best.

  • good song.......brings back fond memories of 1992-1993 for me....

  • this was the "FEEL GOOD" cut of the '90s fo'sho. when you hear this you just wanna"break out" LOL!! how do you not smile hearing this! good new year 2 u!!!

  • What a great gem of a song from the past! Too bad some people have to fight about it. I don't care if homosexuals, straights, blacks, whites or the man from Mars like it or not! I laugh at all of you who are fighting! ROFLMAO! Best wishes to all of you reading this!

This song makes me happy. That is all that counts. ;)

"Breakout!" ... and have a great day!

  • Uh, nobody is fighting. this is a great song, which just so happens to be loved by homosexuals everywhere. Come out of the close already!

  • olllddd music

  • This song will always have a place in my heart and in the hearts of homosexuals everywhere. Homosexuals love this song, like no actual straight male could.

  • yes, youre right. we straights love it with the heart, you... with the ass. :-)

    have a nice day.

  • I sure do! like a good homo.

  • Her voice is so warm...her and Basia were my favourite female voices from the 80's...

  • Fantastic

  • Swing out, sister!

  • nice piece of ass.....

  • gimme a bob and shut up

  • i love this song... it makes me wanna dance around like a goof ball, lol!!!

  • I used to LOVE this song when I was a kid!

  • OK you blokes hate the 80's thats fine. But why then are you watching and commenting on this vid clip?Better you advoid it totally.Right!!

  • These were truly the good old days of MTV. But all of that changed in 1990. And not in a good kind of way by any means.

  • i rather die then return to the 1980s. and you know everyone else feel the same.
