Just got their latest album "Beautiful Mess". Nice album. They've been recording now for 22 years. 12 or so albums in that time with several remixes of various songs. By far my favorite band! Very popular in Japan, of all places.

Sheesh. I love the song and the way she sings it. I'm straight and had no idea it was in any way controversial. Perhaps orvgg thinks its about freeing yourself from societal stereotypes which still apply to gays (although less now than 30 years ago). Yeah, I can go with that but on a more basic and deeper level, its just about being yourself and that applies equally to everyone.

Not in my books. There is nothing in the lyrics or the film clip to suggest that it is about gays. As I write above, I think its just a song about getting out there, being yourself and having fun. No matter who you are, what your sexual orientation is, where you were born/raised, how old you are, what job you do, married, single, de facto, engaged, widowed, whatever.
