Forty years ago, around this Sept. we watched this on a schools television programme about symmetry. My gifted schoolmate came round to our house that same evening and played this tune on our piano! He also tought me to play the thing that night too. I have been playing it ever since, About five years ago, I managed to get this thing on video cassette from Canada. Imagine my surprise having not heard it for so long, to know how accurate our version of the tune was! I still have the tape.
It's a shame that the NFB still sells mostly VHS. Who's going to pay 15$ for a single 3 minute film on VHS :/ That's more like what I would pay for a collection of abstract films on DVD.
Love this film. I used to look forward to seeing it every year when the old guy with his cine-projector came to the school. This movie got me into animation, and sent me off to Canada looking for the NFBC. How disappointed I was to discover that it was an office door and nothing more. These guys did all this in their garages. Genius. See also "Notes on a triangle" -- which is even better!
