  • Fred Rogers always spoke slowly and deliberately so that he could be understood by everyone: including small children. I don't think he ever spoke a word that he didn't think about first.

The incredible thing to watch is how the senator starts off being sarcastic and joking, but Fred just keeps going. He has such absolute trust in the inherent goodness of human beings. . . Some words from a novel I recently read came to mind: "I trust beyond reason. . . and thus gain results beyond hope."

  • you kicked Mr.T's ass in the epic rap battle xD

  • Mister Rogers homerun.

  • did he die?

  • @OneShotClanOs Sadly yes, pretty sad, I grew up watching his show.

  • I grew up watching Mr Roger's Neighborhood. Listening to him read the lyrics of the song at the end gave me goosebumps and a tear. If only there were more Mr. Rogers' out there.

  • Mr. Rogers is a great humanitarian who happens to care deeply for people. He is a wonderful man with a heart of gold. He was on the Arsenio Hall show and he threw out the first pitch at a major league baseball game. He will always be remembered. I love you Fred. Rest in peace.

  • Mr. Rogers was a great man. He had a wonderful show for children and was a great U.S Marine.

I thank you for everything you did for society. OORAH!

  • @toxyoxin Unfortunately, he was never in the marines, that's an urban legend :( But he's still a wonderful human being.

  • I liked mr rogers show because when he would cut construction paper it sounded awesome, his fish was a beast, and I liked his song at the start

  • WTF? How did I end up here? Anyway, awesome. I love Mr. Rogers.

  • Looks like you just earned twenty million dollars.

  • The best man? There's a real chance!

  • Mister Rogers in this video is a testament to the fact that there are many kinds of heroes. It saddens and worries me that we in this society tend to glorify physical courage at the expense of moral courage. A man in a sweater vest fighting for what he believes is right deserves as much respect as a man in a Kevlar vest doing the same.

  • Brilliant.

  • I loved watching Mr. Rogers when I was little. We need a Mr. Rogers for kids today.

  • HOW DARE THE SENATOR INTERRUPT MR ROGERS?!

  • I keep expecting him to break out with tears.

  • @Joeyg143 Well I am...

  • Senate actually listened to someone whose not a lobbyist?

    Fucking madness

  • @MrBalcora It was a different world back then.

  • Holy smokes. Look at the power of words, spoken calmly and sincerely. Astounding.

“Know that there is something deep inside that helps us become what we can. For a girl can be someday a lady and a boy can be someday a man.”

  • @longfootbuddy care to elaborate? theft at gunpoint sound slike a hyperbole, but you are right that you are forced to cooperate with the government. But many people want government to play a positive role in society, helping less fortunate. Would you want to be able to opt-out of taxes and not get the benefits? even something as driving over a road or bridge was built with public money. Wouldn't you then be stealing from the people who do pay their share?

  • A Senator listening? That's new.

  • @dapdapdap1000 To bad this was 40 years ago.

  • @dapdapdap1000 Everyone, EVERYONE listens to Mr. Rogers.

  • @dapdapdap1000 Actually you could say that a Senator listening is old and archaic. It's not the "hip" way to be a Senator anymore.

  • I love how responsive the congressman was

  • What a warm heart.

  • PBS was something different back then, now is the only olast bastion of intelligent TV far better than network TV. At least, they do not run annoying 22 minutes of commercials. Thank you Mr. Rogers for a memory of sanity.

  • @Gibix definatley Mr. Rogers.

  • I started a joke. I started a rumor, many years ago that has circulated, and I deeply regret it today. Don't start rumors. They will hurt you in the end. Karma.

I started a rumor years ago stating that Mr. Rogers was a sniper in Viet Nam, and that his wink at the end of the program, was "one more gook killed."

I have seen this return to create a culture of distrust surrounding Mr. Rogers, and I deeply regret the vomit I helped hurl upon a great man. Please forgive me and forget the vomit

  • thumbs up if NicePeter brought you here!!

  • I love him, this video give me goosebumps and makes me smile. He's one of the reasons I want to be a psychologist... we need more people mike Mr. Rogers :)

  • This man is amazing. He spoke at my graduation (Dartmouth Class 2002). His message was inspirational. I might post it later. The essence of it was that we are okay exactly the way we are. I have never felt adequate, and his message was that we are all unique and have much to offer. It brought tears to my eyes at the time, because I was not outstanding in college and was happy by then just to graduate. I am sad that he is gone.

  • @willgin45

How fortunate you were to be able to hear him speak when he only had such a short time left on the earth.

  • we have Hannah Montana now

  • 1:01

Mr R. is like "dude. dont pull any BS cuz i had a BAD morning >:(

  • He gave me goose bumps

  • That song he chants is pretty badass.

  • What an amazing person. I read a book about Mr. Rogers it was great he really was the person you saw on tv

  • What a great man

  • Thank you, Mr. Rogers, you were a great man. It's so sad that the ideologues are still trying to destroy the CPB.

  • He was a good man and a great man.

  • What happened in D.C they say? The Senators sizes grew three sizes that day!

  • Man he's the kindest guy ever. He could have given Hitler goose bumps. His kindness is mesmerizing.

  • @N1kkon I was always a big Mr. Rogers fan! Perhaps if Hitler had grown up watching Mr. Rogers World War II and The Holocaust might never have happened.

  • Does anyone know what came out of this?

  • To anyone who disliked this video... It's ok. You can still be my neighbor. RIP Mr. Rogers

  • Dali Lama says compassion our most powerful emotion and resource ..... Mr. Rogers motivation was key as he followed his bliss doing what he loved for so many good reasons .

  • Even from beyond the grave this man still impresses me. I'm so glad I grew up watching your shows. Thank you neighbor. You have given me a really good feeling.

  • The Man With the Twenty Million Dollar Song

  • Truly an Amazing Man. If only more people could be like him

  • How did I get here from videos on North Korea?

  • @DrJohnBecker I got here from crochet beanie hats.

  • Comment removed

  • I am appreciative for what this man did. Being born in '78...Mister Rogers was a big part of my childhood.

  • Truly, a remarkable man.

  • Mister Rogers was an angel in our midst. They should continue to run his programming because it is still SO relevent.

  • Fred Rogers...a glimpse of the true promise of humanity.

  • Guys are so of this days this man here was perfect

  • How did i get here from a matt and tray interview?

  • This man is a saint. He made my childhood so much better. I have pity for the children now that don't have the ability to watch him. He almost made a hard hearted judge burst into tears on camera. Thank God that he did what he could while he could. Thank you. Like and repost if you agree

  • The dislike bar can't even be seen!

  • 21 year old dude crying over here

Mr. Rogers is such a great man. God bless whatever agenda he had. i somehow got to see the last 10 years of his show, and i feel it somehow affected the type of person i am. being more patient, calm, gentle. not always having to be the center of attention. MORALS PEOPLE MORALS

  • yup this is wonderful.

  • i cried.

  • Wow this was powerful

  • I love how this senator acts like some kind of badass, and Mr. Rogers has him close to tears in less than ten minutes.

  • If ever there was a man deserving to be named a saint...

  • @EilonWolfe Well, he performed a miracle right there in that video- making Nixon smile despite the fact that the President just lost!

  • Just stellar.

  • What a genuinely good-hearted and peaceful person he was. Growing up, Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street were the only TV programs I was allowed to watch, and really, the only TV I ever wanted to watch. It's heartening to see such an outpouring of gratitude for a good man, for good deeds, for good words, and for goodness itself.

  • God bless that man

  • Mr. Rodgers just owned president Nixion

  • Animated Bombardment indeed! Autobots Roll OUT! :)

  • Who ever thinks Mr.Rogers is a child molester is retarded. Mr. Rogers is a boss. I feel bad for the kids growing up these days who don't even know who he is.

  • You are well loved Mr. Rogers! (sniff, sniff)

  • AHAHAHAHAHA LOL HE LIEKS CHILDREN HE MUST BE A PEDO

You are now aware that there are people who, upon hearing him speak today, would actually believe that

  • @ClownVonDavid People are stupid and ignorant

  • Fred Rodgers owned

  • My hero

    He was a boss

  • Who the FUCK disliked? lol

  • Is it just me, or does Mr. Rogers voice sound higher pitched and nasally than I remember it being?

Other than that, great job, Mr. Rogers!

  • "I like you just the way you are..." You sick bastard

  • @aidanlow93 Are you calling Mister Rogers a sick bastard or the people who label Mister Rogers as a pedophile sick bastards?

  • @aidanlow93 Fuck you dude

  • @Grimreaper905 Thats such a fucking disgusting american thing to say. Go cleanse yourself you filthy fuck

  • @aidanlow93 Lol you fags take shit to seriously. He tried to help children not fucking rape them. Do you even know what a pedophile is?

  • 34 people need to get right back in their vans and get the FUCK OUTTA HIS NEIGHBORHOOD.

  • @badreject180 No, I think those 34 (now 35) need his neighborhood the most.

  • When did he die?

  • @mylittapwner februrary 2003

  • @mylittapwner 2003

  • his voice is creepy

  • he's a great man.

  • All of the problems of the world today are caused by ppl who didn't grow up with Mr. Rogers.

  • @YouGotsTheRabies Agreed

  • One of the most inspirational men in American history

  • was "sesame street" made in answer to the questions being raised & points being made in this presentation?

  • I remember when I was in second grade watching his shows! :) but then I heard that he died ......and I never saw mr roger in the show anymore :( ....

  • This man foresaw nearly 45 years ago what is proving to be a huge disaster for children now. I'm only eighteen, but Mr. Rogers is such a charished part of my life I will never forget waking up early Saturday morning to watch his shows and how sad I felt when I found out he passed away. So for those of you discusting jerks out there saying nasty things about him. Shut up. Shut up and show some class. Because Mr. Rogers was a wonderful man

  • EPIC RAP BATTLES OF HISTORY!!!!!!!!

  • Omfg go to my fucking asshellhole cuz mr rogers is awsome cunt

  • i love mr. rogers

  • I bet that if he were still alive and went into the capitol, he could get the Democrats and Republicans to start hugging eachother and singing together.

  • Comment removed

  • 0:02 Epic comb-over

  • Awesome guy! Even memorable memories growin up with his show

  • He was a gentle soul :)

  • We need an Australian Mr Rogers

  • What an asshole, interrupting Mr. Rogers like that.

  • @ShamelessMcBundy He was a jerk for interrupting him, yes, but the fact that within five minutes, Mr. Rogers turned him from a snark into someone who could see and understand how absolutely important it was for public television to appeal to children in a way that wasn't condescending or indoctrinating, speaks to the powerful yet entirely gentle approach of Mr. Rogers. To turn Pastore like that in minutes is wonderful, and my hat is off to Pastore for understanding where Rogers was coming from.

  • If only there were more lobbyists for good causes speaking straight to politician's hearts like him today :).

  • He was a good man.

  • Legendary.

  • Wow! :'( ima guy and i cried to this... mr. rogers made me feel special :) for all you haters out there that are telling us to get a life.. i already have one because of him.. have a heart ppl.

  • get the fuck out of my neighborhood

  • @megavortex24 Let me guess, your in between the age of 12-16, just basing on your crude language and lack of memories. Mr. Rogers was inspiration to millions of people and possible the best man that has ever appeared on tv, if not the world.

  • @gorrilazfan64 He really was a great person. I'm in that age range you included, and I remember watching his show when I was small and it was in it's last 5-6 years. I enjoyed watching Mr. Rogers teaching me new things and how to be a good person. It's a pity that he wasn't able to reach everyone, because then most people would be compassionate empathy-driven individuals.

  • @gorrilazfan64 I'm in the age range of 12-16. I've never seen Mr. Rogers' show, but I still feel that this man is a wonderful person. When this video ended I actually clapped with the people, I've never done that before. When somebody can make you physically applaud a computer, you know that someone is a great person.

  • Mr. Rogers keeps me sane.

  • Looks like you've just earned the 20million dollars. LIKE A BOSS

  • Amazing. What a great guy.

  • im here cuz i did not know who he was in the rap battle

  • @mik3p0wer same here

  • Swag

  • Maybe if Fox News learned how to sing they'd stop as well.

  • I'm imagining a bunch of PBS people worried about Congressional hearings, sitting around a table, heads in hands. It seems hopeless. Then one of them looks up. "Get on the phone to Pittsburgh. We need Fred Rogers."

If you notice, he didn't once look at notes during that recitation of his song. He knew it by heart, and you can hear the emotion in his voice as he reads it. Against decency and empathy like that, Congress never stood a chance.

  • Sometimes you get the feeling that you become disappointed with this world. You want to do good, and do the hard but right thing all the time, but bit by bit the people around you& the things you see on the media you start to lose faith. You start to realise as you grow up how dark this world is. Slowly, you become more disappointed in this world. But after watching this clip, Fred Rogers has given me hope. Hope that there are people in this world who care and there's worth being good. Thank you

  • can anyone even imagine our current government even HAVING this conversation? if this issue was brought up today, it would be smeared by one side and mindlessly supported by the other, and in the end nothing would get resolved. people are too busy getting action on the side or towing party lines to actually sit down and hear what the people have to say.

  • I am 45 years old, and I watched his show , , , I am a better father, husband and professional, as a result of Fred Rogers . . .I am sorry that he does not have a successor .. .

  • If ever there was a role model for an amazing human being, this is him.

  • Guy was a handsome young fella, wouldn't ya say?

  • Ah... 240p. We meet again.

  • Comment removed

  • The people calling him names and saying he's scary need to grow up. He's has done so much good in his life.

  • Mr. Rogers is an inspiration to Baby Liberty,LLC/

  • calling Mr. Rodgers a pedophile... and Michael Jackson is also called a pedophile.... lol wtf sound like sensationalists just desperately want attention by labeling good people bad names.

  • To the people calling Fred Rogers a pedophile: You are quite possibly the most ignorant people in the world. Mr Rogers was absolutely the kindest and most inspirational person we have ever been blessed to have on this earth.

  • @funkgerm YES. I love Mr. Rogers.

  • @funkgerm People want to see the bad in everything, mr rogers was a blessing to everyone.

  • @funkgerm The only pedophiles are father george bush - dick cheney, etc.

  • @funkgerm

Fred Rogers was a more moral man than Jesus.

  • @funkgerm How right you are! As far as I'm concerned, the very thought of Fred being a pedophile is just abusurd. I don't see it. I'm one of his biggest fans, by the way. I also cannot understand how some people find him creepy or weird.

  • @funkgerm I agree. Did you know he was also an ordained minister that was never even accused of so much as killing a spider? I hate PBS now. He saved their necks here and look what they have done to him today!

  • Wait a minute.... That's Mr. Rogers in Congress!

  • Nobody knew what happened that day..

But the senates heart grew three times that day.

  • we need more people like him in this day and age...

  • @daedrmr2dae yep

  • I really think that your religion has nothing to do with how kind and intelligent Mr Rogers or someone else can be, it's more the doctrine of goodness underneath what keeps your mind healthy and strong enough to even help other people to be happy. But there's something in every Religion that I must dislike. Religion was invented as a mean to teach to children through stories to be kind and worker but w/o asking itself "why to be kind?". It's like a primitive anthrophologysm. God does not exist.

  • @JuglarEuskaldun TL;DR

  • Mr. Rogers should have been president.

  • @LilGreenGiant96

Seriously.. the troops would be home by next week tops lol.

  • @mszsu Are you kidding? The WAR would have been resolved in a week.

  • @LilGreenGiant96

Um yeah.. by troops coming home, ultimately the war would be over. Gist of the comment lol

  • @mszsu No, I mean within a week of it starting, not from now.

  • @LilGreenGiant96

Ohh I see. Yeah for sure! I don't think he'd even allow a war to begin with. Why is it that decent, selfless people never go into politics and all the d-bags want to become president.. it's depressing to think about.

  • @mszsu Ya damn right. Politics is a dirty business.

  • Every time i watch this i have tears in my eyes. So fantastic!

  • i loved watching mr. rogers.

  • He's such a beautiful person!

Oh my god he is SUCH a beautiful person :,)

  • Badass.

  • Host a Show

    Like a Boss

    Talk to Senate

    Like a boss

    Sing my songs

    Like a Boss

    Be a neighbor

    Like a Boss

  • They don't make 'em like that any more.

  • Mr. Rogers was a minister. God does work lol

  • why does he talk like that?

  • @vidmizz He's is a soft spoken man. By speaking in that manner, it allows him to connect with children and, as you can see, even adults.

  • I watch this clip a couple times a year... gets me every time :*-)

  • "Its The Damn Hippies" -.- Nixon hates hippies and mr. Rogers, fail man fail

  • Oh man I love the internet :D
