Fred Rogers always spoke slowly and deliberately so that he could be understood by everyone: including small children. I don't think he ever spoke a word that he didn't think about first.
The incredible thing to watch is how the senator starts off being sarcastic and joking, but Fred just keeps going. He has such absolute trust in the inherent goodness of human beings. . . Some words from a novel I recently read came to mind: "I trust beyond reason. . . and thus gain results beyond hope."
I grew up watching Mr Roger's Neighborhood. Listening to him read the lyrics of the song at the end gave me goosebumps and a tear. If only there were more Mr. Rogers' out there.
Mr. Rogers is a great humanitarian who happens to care deeply for people. He is a wonderful man with a heart of gold. He was on the Arsenio Hall show and he threw out the first pitch at a major league baseball game. He will always be remembered. I love you Fred. Rest in peace.
Mister Rogers in this video is a testament to the fact that there are many kinds of heroes. It saddens and worries me that we in this society tend to glorify physical courage at the expense of moral courage. A man in a sweater vest fighting for what he believes is right deserves as much respect as a man in a Kevlar vest doing the same.
@longfootbuddy care to elaborate? theft at gunpoint sound slike a hyperbole, but you are right that you are forced to cooperate with the government. But many people want government to play a positive role in society, helping less fortunate. Would you want to be able to opt-out of taxes and not get the benefits? even something as driving over a road or bridge was built with public money. Wouldn't you then be stealing from the people who do pay their share?
PBS was something different back then, now is the only olast bastion of intelligent TV far better than network TV. At least, they do not run annoying 22 minutes of commercials. Thank you Mr. Rogers for a memory of sanity.
I started a joke. I started a rumor, many years ago that has circulated, and I deeply regret it today. Don't start rumors. They will hurt you in the end. Karma.
I started a rumor years ago stating that Mr. Rogers was a sniper in Viet Nam, and that his wink at the end of the program, was "one more gook killed."
I have seen this return to create a culture of distrust surrounding Mr. Rogers, and I deeply regret the vomit I helped hurl upon a great man. Please forgive me and forget the vomit
I love him, this video give me goosebumps and makes me smile. He's one of the reasons I want to be a psychologist... we need more people mike Mr. Rogers :)
This man is amazing. He spoke at my graduation (Dartmouth Class 2002). His message was inspirational. I might post it later. The essence of it was that we are okay exactly the way we are. I have never felt adequate, and his message was that we are all unique and have much to offer. It brought tears to my eyes at the time, because I was not outstanding in college and was happy by then just to graduate. I am sad that he is gone.
@N1kkon I was always a big Mr. Rogers fan! Perhaps if Hitler had grown up watching Mr. Rogers World War II and The Holocaust might never have happened.
Dali Lama says compassion our most powerful emotion and resource ..... Mr. Rogers motivation was key as he followed his bliss doing what he loved for so many good reasons .
Even from beyond the grave this man still impresses me. I'm so glad I grew up watching your shows. Thank you neighbor. You have given me a really good feeling.
This man is a saint. He made my childhood so much better. I have pity for the children now that don't have the ability to watch him. He almost made a hard hearted judge burst into tears on camera. Thank God that he did what he could while he could. Thank you. Like and repost if you agree
Mr. Rogers is such a great man. God bless whatever agenda he had. i somehow got to see the last 10 years of his show, and i feel it somehow affected the type of person i am. being more patient, calm, gentle. not always having to be the center of attention. MORALS PEOPLE MORALS
What a genuinely good-hearted and peaceful person he was. Growing up, Mr. Rogers and Sesame Street were the only TV programs I was allowed to watch, and really, the only TV I ever wanted to watch. It's heartening to see such an outpouring of gratitude for a good man, for good deeds, for good words, and for goodness itself.
Who ever thinks Mr.Rogers is a child molester is retarded. Mr. Rogers is a boss. I feel bad for the kids growing up these days who don't even know who he is.
This man foresaw nearly 45 years ago what is proving to be a huge disaster for children now. I'm only eighteen, but Mr. Rogers is such a charished part of my life I will never forget waking up early Saturday morning to watch his shows and how sad I felt when I found out he passed away. So for those of you discusting jerks out there saying nasty things about him. Shut up. Shut up and show some class. Because Mr. Rogers was a wonderful man
I bet that if he were still alive and went into the capitol, he could get the Democrats and Republicans to start hugging eachother and singing together.
@ShamelessMcBundy He was a jerk for interrupting him, yes, but the fact that within five minutes, Mr. Rogers turned him from a snark into someone who could see and understand how absolutely important it was for public television to appeal to children in a way that wasn't condescending or indoctrinating, speaks to the powerful yet entirely gentle approach of Mr. Rogers. To turn Pastore like that in minutes is wonderful, and my hat is off to Pastore for understanding where Rogers was coming from.
Wow! :'( ima guy and i cried to this... mr. rogers made me feel special :) for all you haters out there that are telling us to get a life.. i already have one because of him.. have a heart ppl.
@megavortex24 Let me guess, your in between the age of 12-16, just basing on your crude language and lack of memories. Mr. Rogers was inspiration to millions of people and possible the best man that has ever appeared on tv, if not the world.
@gorrilazfan64 He really was a great person. I'm in that age range you included, and I remember watching his show when I was small and it was in it's last 5-6 years. I enjoyed watching Mr. Rogers teaching me new things and how to be a good person. It's a pity that he wasn't able to reach everyone, because then most people would be compassionate empathy-driven individuals.
@gorrilazfan64 I'm in the age range of 12-16. I've never seen Mr. Rogers' show, but I still feel that this man is a wonderful person. When this video ended I actually clapped with the people, I've never done that before. When somebody can make you physically applaud a computer, you know that someone is a great person.
I'm imagining a bunch of PBS people worried about Congressional hearings, sitting around a table, heads in hands. It seems hopeless. Then one of them looks up. "Get on the phone to Pittsburgh. We need Fred Rogers."
If you notice, he didn't once look at notes during that recitation of his song. He knew it by heart, and you can hear the emotion in his voice as he reads it. Against decency and empathy like that, Congress never stood a chance.
Sometimes you get the feeling that you become disappointed with this world. You want to do good, and do the hard but right thing all the time, but bit by bit the people around you& the things you see on the media you start to lose faith. You start to realise as you grow up how dark this world is. Slowly, you become more disappointed in this world. But after watching this clip, Fred Rogers has given me hope. Hope that there are people in this world who care and there's worth being good. Thank you
can anyone even imagine our current government even HAVING this conversation? if this issue was brought up today, it would be smeared by one side and mindlessly supported by the other, and in the end nothing would get resolved. people are too busy getting action on the side or towing party lines to actually sit down and hear what the people have to say.
I am 45 years old, and I watched his show , , , I am a better father, husband and professional, as a result of Fred Rogers . . .I am sorry that he does not have a successor .. .
calling Mr. Rodgers a pedophile... and Michael Jackson is also called a pedophile.... lol wtf sound like sensationalists just desperately want attention by labeling good people bad names.
To the people calling Fred Rogers a pedophile: You are quite possibly the most ignorant people in the world. Mr Rogers was absolutely the kindest and most inspirational person we have ever been blessed to have on this earth.
@funkgerm How right you are! As far as I'm concerned, the very thought of Fred being a pedophile is just abusurd. I don't see it. I'm one of his biggest fans, by the way. I also cannot understand how some people find him creepy or weird.
@funkgerm I agree. Did you know he was also an ordained minister that was never even accused of so much as killing a spider? I hate PBS now. He saved their necks here and look what they have done to him today!
I really think that your religion has nothing to do with how kind and intelligent Mr Rogers or someone else can be, it's more the doctrine of goodness underneath what keeps your mind healthy and strong enough to even help other people to be happy. But there's something in every Religion that I must dislike. Religion was invented as a mean to teach to children through stories to be kind and worker but w/o asking itself "why to be kind?". It's like a primitive anthrophologysm. God does not exist.
Ohh I see. Yeah for sure! I don't think he'd even allow a war to begin with. Why is it that decent, selfless people never go into politics and all the d-bags want to become president.. it's depressing to think about.
Fred Rogers always spoke slowly and deliberately so that he could be understood by everyone: including small children. I don't think he ever spoke a word that he didn't think about first.
The incredible thing to watch is how the senator starts off being sarcastic and joking, but Fred just keeps going. He has such absolute trust in the inherent goodness of human beings. . .

@JuglarEuskaldun TL;DR

Mr. Rogers should have been president.

Seriously.. the troops would be home by next week tops lol.
mszsu 3 months ago
@mszsu Are you kidding? The WAR would have been resolved in a week.
LilGreenGiant96 3 months ago
@LilGreenGiant96
Um yeah.. by troops coming home, ultimately the war would be over. Gist of the comment lol
mszsu 3 months ago
@mszsu No, I mean within a week of it starting, not from now.

@LilGreenGiant96
Ohh I see. Yeah for sure! I don't think he'd even allow a war to begin with. Why is it that decent, selfless people never go into politics and all the d-bags want to become president.. it's depressing to think about.
mszsu 3 months ago
@mszsu Ya damn right. Politics is a dirty business.

why does he talk like that?
vidmizz 3 months ago
@vidmizz He's is a soft spoken man. By speaking in that manner, it allows him to connect with children and, as you can see, even adults.
