I don't like the new Interface I'd stick with the old way if I used Windows 8. I watched your video because I'm considering switching to an Imac. Wanted to know what limitations bootcamp has (I'm a gamer from time to time). Thanks for the video though.
i cant wait for windows8! Mac users probably might agree, because windows is making a major change to whereas mac stays very similar with each of its updates where windows progressivley changes its option and features
im so bored with mac, i would totally get a windows 8 machine but i need logic other programs -_- AND my friggin hard drive is completely full so i cant boot camp URG
Hi Lamar! I am new to mac. I just got a iMac 21.5 inch and an Intel Core i5 Quad Core 2.50GHz. But it only has 500GB's of HDD space. I don't have a second HardDrive. I have a 2-year old PC with Windows 7 Ultimate. It has 750GB of HDD space. But it has a Intel Pentium Dual Core Processor 2.70GHz. I need to get Windows 7 on Bootcamp because I need exe files (lol) but I don't know if its worth it. Please Help!
Linux actually had an app-store before Apple did it was called " CNR / Click & Run " created by Linspire Linux . Most ideas people claim that Apple created really was in Linux , and BSD before Apple .
also that desktop in that build is TOTALY pointless it's stod all there it's just a way to get to a file manager -.- unless we get a full version of the desktop then there gonna piss off a LOT of people.
I actually like Windows 8. The Metro UI is great for just getting stuff done and is very snazzy but I still like my standard task bar and windows. And the App store should be great, Was wandering when MS would put one in. My only complaint is how the explorer window options are almost EXACTLY like the one from MS Office which I never really liked to begin with so there's that. It's all around great but it still has a long way to come.
Can someone explain "bootcamp." I have an old pc that I would like to install win 8 on. Can I download the os then burn on disc to install on my old pc? Thanks!
I am not getting Windows 8 unless it is like Windows 7... If I wanted an OS to do everything for me, I WOULD BUY A MAC. I like having problems with my Windows, BECAUSE I CAN FIX IT. Hell, sometimes I BREAK my PC, just to fix it.
I tried it. Too much new stuff to learn someone at Microsoft needs to be fired it is such a major fail and to complicated older users will go bat crazy trying to figure it out. Stick with 7.
Microsoft went with the Metro UI for the purpose of making a universal UI that works across all screen sizes. Smartphones, Tablets, Desktop/Laptop and TV. It will also be part of X-Box 360. The only real question worth debating is just how powerful and useful these Metro Apps can be? One indication is office running on Windows Phone 7.
I'm trying it on my Dell Inspiron Duo (flip/touch screen netbook). If it works well I will certainly get the upgrade. For my desktops however, I hate how the UI works. They need to have a switch that isn't the start button, because that is what windows with a mouse revolves around.
I was able to run in this in a VM using Oracles VirtualBox. I set it up telling it that I was using a Windows7 install and it worked with no problems. The only issue is that it would display fully on my external monitor which is weird. When I try to connect it to a 'projector', it says "Your computer cannot use an external display". Not sure if that is just a limitation of the developer edition or not.
With Lion boot camp is helps you create a disk with Mac drivers that you then load after installation of Windows (from within Windows). Can anyone tell me if, when installing W8 DP in Lion if it is smart to install these drivers? Or just install Windows and leave the Mac drivers off?
Not sure if anyone else has posted this, but ... I found if you install Flash, YouTube only works if you go to the "Desktop" then Internet Explorer, it doesn't seem to work if you access Internet Explorer from the Metro screen.
This video cleared up couple things. They basically just changed the traditional Start menu into this new metro interface. Applications are arranged in tiles instead of list of folders. The main screen is also this metro interface instead of the old desktop screen. Now, I have a question. How do you multitask? Do you still go into the old desktop view to do so?
I am for one who likes to have lots of windows open at once, and I mean I like to have a video in one corner, Tor in another, and my browser covering most of the screen. Windows 8's new way of lockin in apps together on the screen is kind of cool but are they completely getting rid of the actual "windows" and just going for full screen apps?
I tried installing the 64 bit version using Boot Camp on my new 13" MBP but it asked for an activation key to install Windows 8. What version did you install - 64 bit or 32 bit? And did it ask you for a key?
You know, I don't really like that Windows is now like this. I think that the Windows 7 start menu is way better. I don't know, I'm just used to the original Windows desktop. I could only see that Metro thing being used on touch or portable devices.

The problem I find is that even set to the other interface - You still have to go to the metro interface to actually launch installed applications unless you want to fill your taskbar or desktop with shortcuts.
Ive been playing around with Win8 today and... I dont love it. But i really like that Microsoft is trying to change windows. They are heading in the right direction but it needs some work. I dont like the visual style they're going for... I like Smooth edges and shading =/, So it would be great if they had some more options for that.
As you could see the things you opened up are apps and that functions exactly like the launch pad on a mac, it is not anything new, a step behind sorry Microsoft!
Ok so, it's basically Windows 7 with tiles and better touch capabilities. They couldn't just push this to Windows 7 as a service pack? Oh well, I see no reason to upgrade from Windows 7 to 8 at this point or to change my mind about a Mac being the next computer I buy.
@jonathonwallen Nope, this will be a huge upgrade, in fact the biggest overhaul Windows has gotten since Vista, this is a whole new direction Microsoft are going, in fact when using Windows 8 it's using Metro most of the time. The old Windows is just there as a backup for people who need it. Also have you tested it? I'm guessing not.
absolutely hate this tile thing feels really claustrophobic and well just retarded though i can understand it on a tablet. i think in the end mac and pc are the same price as if you were to buy the equivalent of ilife on windows it'd cost about 500 quid and the quality is amazing on macs. this has failed to convert me so i wont be buying a windows 8 machine. sorry microsoft
@matthehat People said the same about the iPad, Windows 8 is going to be huge, also, almost all my products are Apple, this is the first version of Windows that has actually exactitude me.
vmware fusion has a really bad cube effect when i press one of these tiles. it's making me so mad. also hardware rendering in i.e. doesn't work. it feels like the whole os was internet explorer, which it is, but that isn't noticeable with hardware rendering. parallels just doesn't work. i will try bootcamp on my mbp 2011.
I didn't install any special drivers. I used Boot Camp Assistant, it asked me to insert the disc (the one I burned from the ISO) and then it installed; it just worked. I use Lion if that helps any.
If it's not working for you, do some Google searches or maybe a community member in the comments can assist. I can't provide any tech support on this.

It looks very gimmicky, I don't like the look of the new interface at all. I hope you can turn all the gadgetry off to save system resources

@matthehat People said the same about the iPad, Windows 8 is going to be huge, also, almost all my products are Apple, this is the first version of Windows that has actually exactitude me.

There is a button to go back, the windows button. I don't know if the apple button will do the same on your keyboard.

vmware fusion has a really bad cube effect when i press one of these tiles. it's making me so mad. also hardware rendering in i.e. doesn't work. it feels like the whole os was internet explorer, which it is, but that isn't noticeable with hardware rendering. parallels just doesn't work. i will try bootcamp on my mbp 2011.
rinkavideos64 5 months ago
I didn't install any special drivers. I used Boot Camp Assistant, it asked me to insert the disc (the one I burned from the ISO) and then it installed; it just worked. I use Lion if that helps any.
If it's not working for you, do some Google searches or maybe a community member in the comments can assist. I can't provide any tech support on this.

Wait, if this was just released, how did you get Bootcamp drivers for it? There is NO way Apple made drivers for Win8 THAT fast.
