You guys have a lot of potential but the lead is playing beyond his capabilities. Slow it down to where you can accent the proper beats and hit the notes cleanly and evenly and it will begin to sound like music.
actually, he used his pinky over 12 times, he was playing most of the waltz in open position, which doesn't require use of as many fingers, if any on some notes, look more carefully before you post negative comments...
...p.s. let's see your version of the waltz and see whose is better.
actually you are right. Lots of manouche guitarists use pinky finger only when its strictly necessary, also Stochelo Rosenberg often use the third finger instead of the pinky, but this is not shame, its just a different way to play, and as you can see it sounds pretty good anyway uh?
I could be wrong but I believe this song is named as the intro title indicates. I have a Lulu Weiss Quartet album (a must listen to especially if you are into to the more Romany spirit of this music) with this same cut.
The track is listed as "gypsy valse (traditional)" on that album.
Wow! Fantastic playing. Not Django Reinhardt but a modern version perhaps. I love the guitars too (I don't have a single nylon/"gut" string guitar anymore - I am planning a trip to Spain just to buy some!! I heard they make fantastic guitars in Russia!!?? Also I met a guy in Washington Square park who was playing a guitar that he claimed was one of Reinhardt's !!??!?!?) Thanks for the culture!
Yes, you are absolutely correct. My bad. Thanks for pointing that out. The guy in Washington Square had steel string too! I am not sure what I was thinking. Do you play?
I do, I recently bought a Cigano D-hole Selmac style guitar, which you can see Joscho Stephan play in one of my videos (the one with Frank Vignola). Do you play any?
Sounds wonderful. I will have to check it out. Yeah, I play but I don't play much in this style. I play a lot of classic rock, blues, metal, some jazz. I started on piano at three and now I have "taught myself" to play virtually all musical instruments. Do you play only in this style or do you play others as well?
