When Derek And Warren are on the stage together at an ABB show It is absolutely the most awesome display of guitar virtuosity you will ever see. It is not "just the blues", these guys rock!
The little prodigy grew up into a real quality performer that can play it all.
This kid was born with a gift only his creator could give him.... it's these kind of musicians that keep music alive and cause joy inside a man unlike nothing else
Why would anyone "hate" a child that obviously took the time and dedication to play any instrument and play it well?What do most kids do today? What? Get really good at some video game?Know how to text faster than the next guy? For the ones that hate these kids....pick your instrument and put it on here...let`s see what you`re about. I bet you`re past 30 and pissed you didn`t make and so you have to spill hate.Also without blues most of what you know in rock wouldn`t be here.
I saw Derek play in 2000 and I thought he was a prodigy then but this was 9 years earlier. He was already great at 11 years old. the Beethoven on the Blues
I hate it when these 10 year old kids go on Oprah dubbed "guitar wizzes" because they can play a Black Sabbath riff or the first bar of Stairway to Heaven. In my eyes there have been two famous child prodigies worth showing off to the world. One is Mozart. The other is Derek Trucks.
@theatlantisrise I hate 12 yr old guitar prodigys, they always play blues, why not jazz, classical or country? Because anybody can half ass fake some SRV licks and when they are 30 yrs old they will be no better than when they were at 12 and nobody will know them. That being said, thats not the case with Derek, he was awesome then and he is a BEAST now.
@joe1969812 YOu obviously haven't been around much. Ricky Scaggs started playing professionally at about age 13 and Marty Stuart at age 12. Both with very well known bluegrass acts, Ricky with Ralph Stanley and Marty with Lester Flatt. Keith Whitley joined Ralph Stanley's band just before Scaggs did at about age 14 or 15. Both had been playing mandolin and guitar since grade school. Ricky even played on stage with Bill Monroe at age 6. Other than that, you make some good points.

For some one to be playing like this at age 12 is just disgusting. He is definitely a modern era guitar god and will go down in history. Unbelievable guitarist. RIP Duane also
Lil dude ripping! Love it.

@joe1969812 - I was getting ready to trash you until I finished your entire comment. Derek was amazing as a kid, but he is a fucking god now.

Simply amazing. I still feel Derek is Duane reincarnated.

Derek isn't following the band, they're following him to the betterment of music. 12 years old? He was born to do this - to our benefit.

Derek rocks, and has humility - more than I can say for his critics.
elcantil22 10 months ago
Derek didn't know it, but his wife was 21 during this performance. (c;
