This movie portrays as closely as possible to show us what Christ went through... the violence is not just a persons lust for violence, this gets close, but not the full depiction of what actually happened.

You've made you point, and I accept that. It is just a personal opinion of mine that all this violence rather overpowers Jesus' message, but you don't have to share my views.
Since Jesus was God in human form, and he took on the weight of the world's sins, he went through intense pain and tortue - God even temporarily left him as shown by Jesus crying out to God "Why hast thou forsaken me?" Jesus 'became' the world's sin and I believe that is the reason for all the suffering he endured.
So I don't think we're watching Jesus be tortured because we just want to focus and watch that - but it was he death and suffering that truly was the sacrifice to forgive our sins.
i know my opinion will be disputed by many - but I still feel that Jesus' lessons here on earth have a more resounding and important effect on the human race than how he died to relieve us of our sins. Our God is also one who keeps His words, only those who are not sinners can go to heaven, but all of man are sinners, because we are all descendants of Adam, who have sinned against God. When i was a child , i was used like many other christian childs to see paintings about Christ's crucifixion, but those paintings seem non-violent, they were made in order not to shock people, but when i watched this movie my vision about his crucifixion had totally changed and I've finally understood what he had endured ! I know it can be hard, this is one of the biggest questions into faith. and the answer is that it is not through gods will, but ours that these horrible things are happening. If we love our brothers and sisters, who are our fellow human beings, and do our best to live peaceful and respectfully with one another, and serve one another and honor them, them we can each aspire to bring peace and work towards this ourselves. If we can inspire such peace, then we can work towards a better community.

One famous example of non-biblical documentation is the works of Flavius Josephus. Recently a first century drinking cup has been discovered with probable references to Jesus. This type of subject is too long for here but info is readily available with a minimum of searching. Hope that answers your question.

Looked into it, a few problems. First there is one disputed refrence to Jesus yes. Disputed because the earliest manuscripst were copied by (drumroll) the churce. Second because earlier compilations of your roman hisotrians works seem to leave out the book in question and in writings on him make no mention of the work. So this is looking like a hoax.... There are other name references, and work that has been done that shows the style of writing for the New Testament was very soon after it was recorded. I remember being on a train by the ocean, thinking about a friend of mine that was (then.. that day on her last day on earth) she was dying/died of breast cancer. The most horrific year of my life. So as I was thinking of her, I was looking at the ocean and all the people on the beach and how much color and life theres was in the sun, the sun/son (GOD) Light... Then on my way home all there was was darkness, when hours ago there was so much life and light.

This film's gore is entirely unnecessary and I feel all it does it provoke anti-semitism. Being a Christian myself, I feel that we should look back on Jesus's life, and how much humanity was helped by his teachings, not his death and suffering, which only causes feelings of anguish and guilt. Look back on our savior's life, not his death.

Since Jesus was God in human form, and he took on the weight of the world's sins, he went through intense pain and tortue - God even temporarily left him as shown by Jesus crying out to God "Why hast thou forsaken me?" Jesus 'became' the world's sin and I believe that is the reason for all the suffering he endured.
So I don't think we're watching Jesus be tortured because we just want to focus and watch that - but it was he death and suffering that truly was the sacrifice to forgive our sins.

i know my opinion will be disputed by many - but I still feel that Jesus' lessons here on earth have a more resounding and important effect on the human race than how he died to relieve us of our sins. It sounds ridiculous, I know, but it's just what I believe we should look back on. Not the suffering of our savior to improve our lives- but the thriving of our savior so as we can learn messages, assisting us to lead our lives with content that we are following God's will.

Hm...Here is some thoughts... jesus came as the ultimate savior . For he himself became a ransom for whole mankind's sins thru crucifixion, which no other saviors has done before. Christ's crucifixion was inevitable since there was no other way humankind's sins could be justified. We see jesus praying "father, IF POSSIBLE, take this cup away from me" . So i guess it was impossible ......

He did this for our sins because we are sinners on our nature. God was there at our doors waiting for us to let Him come in. When i was a child , i was used like many other christian childs to see paintings about Christ's crucifixion, but those paintings seem non-violent, they were made in order not to shock people, but when i watched this movie my vision about his crucifixion had totally changed and I've finally understood what he had endured ! I do not belive in God anymore, but when I watch his crucifixion, it's hard to belive that Jesus resisted to all that pain.Any other human being would be dead in a few minutes

Something that I learned recently was quite interesting. Apparently it wasn't actually the cross it self he carried to the place he was crucified, they actually gave him a large metal pole. Tiberius was the emperor of Rome and he was condemned to be crucified because he was seen as a revolutionary who might lead the Jews into a rebellion again Roman Rule. The fact that Jesus was an historical figure is fairly accepted by academia. Some may doubt His Divinity but not that He existed. One famous example of non-biblical documentation is the works of Flavius Josephus. Recently a first century drinking cup has been discovered with probable references to Jesus. This type of subject is too long for here but info is readily available with a minimum of searching. Hope that answers your question.

Looked into it, a few problems. First there is one disputed refrence to Jesus yes. Disputed because the earliest manuscripst were copied by (drumroll) the churce. Second because earlier compilations of your roman hisotrians works seem to leave out the book in question and in writings on him make no mention of the work. So this is looking like a hoax.... I remember being on a train by the ocean, thinking about a friend of mine that was (then.. that day on her last day on earth) she was dying/died of breast cancer. The most horrific year of my life. So as I was thinking of her, I was looking at the ocean and all the people on the beach and how much color and life theres was in the sun, the sun/son (GOD) Light... Then on my way home all there was was darkness, when hours ago there was so much life and light.
