  • Could you make a spanish subtitles?

  • i think your hand should be flat when you lift it for the serve

  • Everything is good but like someone is the right manual?

  • nice tutorial :)

  • Good Video, thanks!

  • Do you have your bottom three fingers holding onto the bat with the digit just below the fingernail and the index finger pointing nearly straight up instead of to the side?

  • nic video, i like the serves

  • excellent video, helped me lots!

  • What type of bat do you use?

  • best explanation for serve, thank you

  • nice explain!!

you look like john cena, you know?

  • Are you speaking english? I don't understand a word... like your vid though. Thanks.

  • Very helpful, have watched dozens of Ma Lin and Timo Boll matches. Always wondered what the heck is going on with their serves. This is the first time I can actually see what they are doing. Now I know exactly what to practice. Thanks!

  • Thanks mate! Useful information.

  • excellent!!!

  • I like the shorts.

  • U guys are idiots. You can't expect to do those serves like a professional in the first place. Yes it may look slow and lack spin but when you become good enough to use a decent force on the ball that is when the serves become good. They are very professional serves.

  • he got pwned 1:52

  • Guyz, how can one maintain composure during games. I felt that even if you're good enough with any drills or strokes if you don't have proper composure, you're nothing. Like myself, i tend to be in the attack mode all the time which often resulted to lack of controls and miss the points. I'm over excited with every shot. Sometimes my hand hesitates to strike even if it's clear to attack especially on the slow ball. Please help. Any advice or training that could improve your composure? Thanks!!!

  • G309 u going to make any new vids on serves

  • when u serve u serve wrong

  • Thank you!

  • Thank you

  • if you like ping pong check out my channel! and subscribe if ya like it!

  • Can you add subtitles in French?. Thank you

  • Well, I don't speak French, so unless we have a French speaker willing to do a translation for me, I think it would be unlikely to happen.

  • @G309

It does not matter .. . Thank you anyway :)

  • @G309

Can you add russian subtitles?. Thank you

  • @bboybram If someone is willing to supply the Russian translation, I'd be willing to put up the video with subtitles.

  • @G309 How about ancient latin subtitles?

  • @xkoenigseggx veni, vidi, vici ;)

  • @TAPADAKA1318 just take some english lessons , it's not that hard to understand though.

  • Finally a video revealing in clear language all the different serves. This is what I need to convince my 7-year old boys. Thank you very much.

  • Comment removed

  • /facepalm

  • @wayno3785 Well, obviously it's a little difficult for you to imagine, but if you are right-handed you simply change your position to the other side of the table!

  • thats cuz its a fisherprice table.

  • That guy looks extremely tall for the table

  • lmao, he throws the ball on the ground like it's tennis

  • if my opponent makes a sidespin serve and follows through to his right, which direction should i aim the tip of my paddle to return it?

  • the ball "wants" to go where the opponent's paddle ended. So if his paddle ended to his right, you could aim to the left to compensate.

One thing though. If you counter the serve with a topspin, you won't notice the sidespin as much. So my advice is: return it with topspin, unless you're a defence player.

  • depends on what side he'll sidespin. First just let it bounce, watch what side it'll go from you, (ex. right side) next time steer to the left, it'll go straight :)

  • When receiving sidespin it is easiest to aim to where the the ball is spinning. ie: They serve so it hooks to your left, so you aim to your left.

  • 2:01 is pretty nasty

  • the serve is too long at 2.01

  • do u ha e to server like that??

  • thanks for this video, i'm sure my skills will improve

  • lol mine to m8

  • It is great to see former top players trying to help others out. Thank god for the internet.

  • amen lol

  • there is nothing wrong about grip

    or anything

    just a very good serve

  • whats not legal about that! the only thing is he=is palm is not totally flat. he serves the ball behind the white line and he throws it up more than 6 inches so i dont see a problem.

  • ah Mark, this guy used to coach me, made me a table tennis bat with some of his old grips

  • lol the W.A.T.T.A 's on youtube/internet

    :o

  • very easy lol i was expecting a great advanced serv

  • he is using chinese style

  • Thats bull crap he serves really good, good demonstration for upcoming shakehand players.

  • this guy should not be teaching because

he is not serving legal and he dose not have

the right grip and dose not have the right form but i think he has watched a lot of videos

and is trying but bad form so not a good

thing to be teaching bad and not legal form

    =)

  • everything he did is legal and correct.

  • look at his right arm, that's obviously not correct

  • look at his arm, he doesn't retire enough or he even hits the ball under the arm.

  • No, in some of his services, his right arm remains in a virtual pyramid between ball and net plane. He should remove his right arm from this pyramid. It is not legal to serve so the ball flies between throwing arm and table.

  • bounce more than once on table is a basement rule, not an official rule.

  • He's the same as Michael Maze :)

  • You cant be same as a other person.

  • Not if you are twins :))

  • looks like Michael Maze when he is older.

  • this is good excerpt video from a pendulum serve...congratulations

luke ligue trainer table tennis Belgium

  • Oh my God he´s sooo bad :D

  • im welll betterr

  • my serve is better

  • he left handed ......

  • Absolutely Brilliant. Your explanations are very easy to understand.

  • thanks, learned alot !!

  • No problem with the serve but it would be useful to demonstrate how to counteract them.

    Thanks

  • what happens if u serve and it hits the very edge of the white line of your opponents side? does it count?

  • yes it does unless the white doesnt change its way...

  • Good Basic Instruction, getting this and then spending hours exploring one's own capabilities with the wrist. Speed, angles and touch!

  • Thanks for this video great demonstration. I found out how to do these serves and also got the reverse pendulum serve.

  • brilliant demonstration matey, thanks

  • Thanks, very helpful.

  • lol ok buddie

  • sucks

  • Thanks - constructive criticism is always welcome.

  • @G309 Do not matter with bad criticisms. I like your vid, but I do not understand english, I know how to write a but when I hear I understand just a little, so I try to understand by watching. Thanks for posting the video.

  • @G309 u r a nice guy

  • Actually the guy is good but hes kinda stupid! The only reason I say this is that if you make a "professional coaching video" You should edit your mistakes because you will look real stupid teaching something that seems like you cant do yourself. Thats the the only thing wrong with this. Otherwise good job!

  • Mark did the coaching, I did the videoing (I'm Greg).

  • For those that comment that he missed the reverse pendulum serve, my gosh... have you ever coached? Do you understand that when you're not in the middle of the game and are talking for several minutes at a time, and then trying to serve, you have no rythym and no timing? There's no feel for the ball because you haven't been playing. This is why players warm up before a match... to get a feel for the ball.

  • @NightcruiserMA I agree with what you said! He is teaching not playing, the important thing is that he knows how to teach.

  • Thanks for the tips. But I found reverse pendulum is difficult to serve (no offence, but u also missed twice). besides, if I do that there is lack of spin and most importantly - how can I disguise it? Because the raquet will now swing in the opposite direction (outwards). Any suggestion?

  • THats for Left Handed Players

  • right handed can also do it!!!

    I got it

  • U guys are idiots. You can't expect to do those serves like a professional in the first place. Yes it may look slow and lack spin but when you become good enough to use a decent force on the ball that is when the serves become good. They are very professional serves.

  • hes supposed to be a coach and cant do that reverse serve

    even i can do it

  • Very helpful thanks for uploading.

  • Apparently, there are so many experts here who only have negative comments. If that is what you think, go watch the pros of this world, instead of videos like these. I am a recreational player, who is starting to love the game and videos like these allow me to learn new skills and improve my game. When I do watch the pros, they move too fast and I don't learn. So, thank you! Keep it up! There are many of us in this situation and find such videos very helpful. And the best part - They're FREE!

  • the sound is not clear

    lol

  • great coaching video! I'm exiting to test all these services :P

  • Wow, you people are harsh critics, anyways its hard to judge a serve without returning it, secondly he was exaggerating the motions to teach the game. Very instrucitve. Thankyou.

  • Sorry, but if I may say so, his serves were quite pathetic. Watch the pros and learn from there. Much more effective.

  • Yes, you may say so. I humbly grovel and apologise for wasting everybody's time by daring to post this 4 minutes of pathetic serving. I don't know what I was thinking... ;)

  • Isn't it great when people post constructive criticism.

I think the fact that you are taking the time to provide a service (no pun intended), to help people learn the game and so on, is great.

  • The only noticable spin on the services that he did was the reverse pendulum one. But even then it was a bit high for a good serve..... and no offence, but those other serves were a bit too high, lack of spin, and thus kinda pathetic. Sorry about that, but if you want to see proper serves or learn any, the best thing is to watch the pros. Check out Ma Lin, Waldner, Schlager and Wang Liqin.

  • NOTHING TO BE LEARNNED..

  • Except how to spell? ;)

  • rofl!!

  • owned

  • haha

  • es bueno pero io soy mejor

  • cool serves!

  • wow great vid thx for upload^^

  • He is serving illegally. You are supposed to hold the ball flat in your hand, not with your hand cupped. Also, I'm kind of dubious as to whether his hand was always behind the end line when he threw the ball up.

Then again, how old is this video?

  • The video is from 2004. You are correct about holding the ball in your open palm. Dunno about whether Mark had the ball behind the endline (which he should have), but I doubt he was paying much attention to that at the time, as he was busy explaining stuff.

  • Maybe you're right, but there are people who would watch this video and copy exactly what he did. If so, they may be penalised in a game later in life for something they didn't know was wrong because they saw a 'professional' do it...

  • True. But holding the palm flat and moving it behind the table wouldn't be a big adjustment. And if they copied everything else too, they could do worse!

When all else fails, read the rules - if they would just stop changing the darn service rules!

  • great vid

  • He missed a lot, isn't he?

But the important thing is that he is helping some people here...

  • to be honest, the ball doesn't seem to be spinning very fast, except for the serve that hit the net the first two times. i think during a match he performs serves much more dynamically, because it doesn't seem a problem to return THESE serves

  • probably, but what's more important is that the ball comes back to where you want. anyway have you ever seen that a pro tabletennis player like ma lin missed up to 5 serves that came from his opponent? probably not because they know what to do with any kind of serves

  • first time i have seent these videos not bad

  • A regular opponent of mine in England from a couple of years back... top 20 ranked English player. And those serves are VERY awkward in a real situation! He's simplifying for the guys he's coaching. Unless your a very good player, these serves - performed correctly in a match condition and not practice demonstrations - work very very well for him!

  • Good video

but everybody who practice table tennis know's these kind of thing

  • nice shorts my great grandpa has a pair of those

  • Good vid. All of it is correct, people who are criticising should learn more about the sport before opening fire.

The serve at 1:50 is the trickiest one, requires a lot of practice.

Regarding his technical skills, we cannot judge them by this video, anyway you do not have to be an excellent player to be an excellent coach.

Only remark I would make is he should have tucked in his T-shirt (the bat might brush against the shirt and/or get caught).

  • ... not even holding the paddle right...

  • There's no 'right' way to hold it genius, especially not in service.

  • serves u mean

  • Good enough for Waldner though...

  • Nice answer, Greg.

  • that is a weird way of holding.

  • he's holding it right maybe you just don't know much about table tennis

  • uhm maybe im not paying enough attention, but this guy looks like he totally suck at table tennis, anyway, wehen I perform this serve as sharp as possible, just behind the net so the oppenent must duck al to his fourhand side to return it

  • um if he sucks I wonder why he is a coach lol

Thanks dude that really helped my serve I still need practice but it curves a lot.

  • wow, this guy cant do a reverse sidespin serve

  • i'm in my primary level and i'm part of my school's team and we all know how to do the reverse side spin its not that hard really

  • umm maybe its just because i dont play 24/7 (ie heaps) that i dont see how serving from the side of the table is helpful, no matter what spin you do.

This guy i versed does a similar serve from the side as he does and a simple return to the opposite corner would normally do it, and if not wold at least put him off balance.

  • my friend plays with a crazy style he jumps and does a 180 with his waiste and throws a sick bite on the ball but its not a type of spin that affects how your shot out come is hes an extreme offensive i usually just loop that ball back at him ha nice vid

  • thx

  • This was great... hope more vids like this... Interesting... will be trying these.......

  • wow, he missed

  • i ddnt understand his accent u__u

  • the forehand inverted serve is by far the most hard to perform. A lot of practice is neccesary!

  • Great Video! Really enjoyed it, it'll helo me out a lot, if you have any other how-to videos could you send them to me?

  • This was helpful!
