It's like wearing a seat belt in a car: you don't expect to crash or think you are, but in case something you can't control puts you in such a situation, it's better to have the seat belt on in the first place. Hi, tckychang, In a freeboard,the four regular (more common) wheels on the sides still do the same thing as if you were riding any longboard. But, when you carve, the board slants on to the sides, depending on which side you lean on, letting the wheels on the center of the trucks touch the ground.. Thats the thing that makes them carve. I've never really tried one, but from the looks of it thats what it is. You just have it backwards.

I've never personally seen a freebord, but from the videos, I think the four outer wheels don't touch the ground like a skateboard does. Rather, you have to lean to let one side touch the ground (as if you're carving on a snowboard). The two wheels in the middle probably do most of the carrying, and they rotate like the wheels on a shopping cart, letting the rider twist and turn their boards.

At least, that's what I think. Someone correct me if I'm wrong!
