Wow. Nice model. I'm really impressed. It makes me feel like building a battleship model. Too bad the Titanic had such a tragic fate. She was a beautiful ship. From bow to stern she was absolutely stunning. The Queen Mary is really the only luxury ocean liner we have left from that era. Terrific job and thank you for the upload.
there is one flaw with the model it is missing the mast where the man raised the white star line flag at the end of the ship other than that is is a beautiful model
Please check out the latest images from last year of some minor modifications I carried out on the model. The video is available in on my YouTube channel for 2010. If you compare what you see in this video and the video of 2010, you will notice the changes. The model now even has those famous "hoops" on the deck.
That is the coolest, most impressive model I've ever seen! It must've been a fortune to have all the stuff to build it. I wish I could build one myself. :)
Great model. I loved the movie growing up, I can remember watching the news in 1985 when she was found and being so disappointed at the condition she was in, broke in half and all.
@MasterVideoStudios - It wouldn't be cheap. This is a one off, the only one available which took me a number of months to build. The sale price would reflect in that. I would sell it, but it would be for a serious offer.
@JohnnyEggzTheII - That was "my" step-by-step instructions as I was a admin to the old RTT site. If you look though my videos, one is for my Facebook RTT group. The link to the sites archives should be amoungst the links in the group, even though the old RTT site is now longer active.
@RaiseTheTitanic1980 All right! thanks i found the site when i was 12 and always wanted to build it and i tried it on the 12 inch revell model came pretty good but it got destroyed XD
@drawingdude267 - This is from the "fictional" film 'Raise the Titanic' which was released in 1980 and made 5 years before the REAL Titanic was found.
Can you describe what has become of the original replica used in the film: "Raise the Titanic" ? Also, are there any details available regarding the water tank used during filming ? The construction and subsequent condition of the replica is of great interest to me - as are methods used to make the film.
Can I recommend a fabulous book, written by Jennifer Hooper McCarthy & Tim Foecke titled: "What Really Sank THE TITANIC" (Citadel Press). Well worth reading !!
@AussieAviator - If you check out some of my other RTT videos you will see what the model looks like today. There is one video that has recent images from Feb 2010.
The McCarthy/Foecke book is about the weak rivets, a theory I and many Titanic historians don't buy into.
As I have some updated photographs I did of my model which some are being used for a book, I may put together a "new" video showing them as before I photographed the model, I carried out some alterations to the model.
Its really cool that you made a seabed the only proplem is that at 2:16 the glass dome above the stair case is not broken, but that really dosent matter
@TheHeavynerf - The dome cover: because my model is built to represent the movie model when it is discovered in the film, not when the sub crashes into the skylight.
@PokeWorks - They are air vents, not masts. This is a replica model of the one made for the movie 'Raise The Titanic' which that film model had these vents inplace. The "real" Titanic did not have these tall cowling vents either side of the forward mast.
I think you, as a fan of the movie(the biggest fan maybe), should do a replica film with your 30 inch model...:D It would look awesome. What do you think of that? And BTW, very nice and detailed model.
The FX department put a bulkhead and 3 tall cowl vents onto the model to match in with deck scenes filmed onboard the ocean liner ATHENAI which had these. As the ship was waiting to be scrapped, it would have been easier to have removed them off the ATHENAI.
A "simple" way to make your model look realistic is to get some white LED's and place them just out of camera range and have them shine strategically over the hull, as if from light sources or submersibles deep in the ocean. Also, put the model on a black closth and also put black velvet in the background.
Then set your camera on a tripod , dial down the iris for maximum depth of field and take time exposures. That's provided your camera has these manual overrides available.
Would it be feasible for some billionaire today to build a new Titanic based on blueprints from the original? It would make a great tourist attraction. A person like myself would love to take a trip on it.
No probs with your model making skills, that's for sure. I am just a bit puzzled as to why you would bother making a model of something based on a (rubbish) film that got an awful lot wrong and whose ship looks nothing like the real thing would. Why not make a model based on the wreck as she is today? Good pictures available in the book of the 1997 Titanic film by James Cameron.
Wish I had your modellings skills though, very impressive :)
That's an easy one to answer, whic is - well, why not. Model makers with an interest in Titanic make 3 models of her; 1912, sinking or wreck - I did something that others don't do. What I did was differant and it's gets people talking. Its not your usual "run of the mill" Titanic model.
This is the Titanic as she is seen in the 1980 movie 'Raise The Titanic'. This film was made some 5 years BEFORE the real Titanic was actually discovered.
lol, what dumb people, i know it was widely beleived that Titanic sank whole, but why the hell would they think all the cables are still there and why would they think the masts' and funnels are still very intact???? and if the wreck is so intacted were are the lifeboat davits???
anyway AWESOME MODEL!!!, wouldn't mind havin me a Titanic wreck model, not from the movie "Raise the Titanic" but from real life, like the actual wreck, but i dont think i could afford it though :(, could yoy make
Because when the book was written in 1976 and the movie was made in 1980, it was still widely believed the ship was intact. The real 'Titanic' was not discovered until 5 years after the movie was made.
Hello. I build the 3 various scale versions, 1/700th scale (20inch), 1/400th scale (24inch) and 1/350th scale (30inch). Please send me a PM with your preferred scale and I will give you a quote.
I have just been asked as to how I created the seabed effects - The seabed was created using paper ma'che (did I spell that right?), sand, model sceaninc chippings and (dont laugh) unused cat litter (yes, you read that correct) for the small bolders. A gallon of glue, then dried, then painted, then varnished.
Using a sprayable substance used in the motor industry called stone-chip. Its a undercoat paint that contains small micro chips that is used for motor cars. I also used a modeling FX paint called 'Fleck', which is also similar to the stone-chip. The colouring was done with a mixture I created than applied with my air brush.
Actually , You know what would be cool, make a model of Titanic & Olympic side by side being constructed at Harland & Wolff in the large framing structures, that would be epic, or maybe thats just my acquired taste of a model.
Very cool , like it very much, id just sit there and look at it for ages. Well done!!! Its interesting that when cussler wrote the book and this movie etc, no one really took into account how badly rusted it really would be, or that it split in two, and the most major factor, the force & momentun of which it would have smashed into the ocean floor, it would have been like a freight train hittting a wall, compressing & busting open the brittle hull.
Its a long story. . . but cut short, when Cussler wrote the book and even during the making of the film, it was widely believed that the Titanic was still intact. Some surviving passengers had claimed that she broke apart during sinking, but surviving officers said she sank intact. During the 1912 hearings, the officers accounts were taken into consideration more so than passengers. So up until the ships real discovery in 1985, it was widely believed she was intact to a large degree. . . .
. . . It was also thought that where she sank, with water tempreatures being below freezing all the time at that depth of 12,450ft, with no light or oxygene at those levels, and with the ocean floor probably being so compacted due to those pressures asserted upon it, they thought the ship would be preserved. . . . I think even Robert Ballard (who found her) was supprised at her poor condition.
I have to replace the stern flag staff which broke off recently when moving house. Also, I have plans to add additions to the model. I am planning on building a slightly smaller and more narrow seabed so that the model can be placed within a display cabinet. I will scratch build 2 of the subs as seen in the film and try and produce some raised letters to use as the ships name on her hull.
I don't want the Titanic to be left to decay at the bottom of the ocean. RAISE IT UP ASAP.
