How do you feel about "book learning" in contrast to a more socratic and social methods of learning? I think that learning through reading can seem very elucidating but when talking to others, I realize how esoteric independent learning is when what you've interpreted is one way and what someone else interpreted is the same but expressed very differently.
I am working on an Ebook that offers step by step guides on how to become your own teacher :) consider it my big project! im very excited about it. I have the idea to add a section on cognitive therapy techniques because learning those techniques has significantly helped open my mind & most importantly, has taught me how to handle my emotional mind :) If your interested in chatting sometime, Id love to talk to you! We can share our experience, and maybe even form an awesome friendship. ^^
Hey mate, I've been doing a similar thing for a while now but would love to be in a position where I didn't have to work and I could just dedicate all my time to learning, reading and putting skills into practice.
For years I'd be approaching the idea always been self teaching since I left school; where the only thing I leaned was that institutional education is not the answer. Good habits I've formed: write things on your phone - ideas, memories, notes on things to research later.......
.... Also when reading something in a book or online, copy it straight out into a notebook marking page and topic. I see this as a sort of Baconian collection of data; compiling with no real goal and then maybe at a later date I can put it all together into a sort of unified idea. I study syntax, semantics, chemistry, psychoactive compounds, good health and mind, philosophy, music, sociology, anthropology... many more I am sure. I wish you the absolute best on your path!
One more thing! Check out "Demetri Martin - If I" if you want to watch a genius comedian talk about his life of autodidactism and how out of control it got. Essential Viewing.
Hey man, good going. I like what you're doing. I'm an autodidact myself and started this year because I'm consistently busy with my job, which prevents me really from going to college. So yup. I'm studying linguistics, science, history, (creative) writing, english, math, government, and business/entrepreneurship. Side courses are philosophy, debate, nature survival, neuroscience, geography, and a few others. The best of luck and blessings to you man. I'll keep an eye out for your vids. Peace :)
I really like what you are doing and I myself am heading down the same path my friend. Although my course of study will be different I will be taking the route of autodidactism. Something that I have recently come up with to help me is a journal. I use this to write down definitions of words that perplex me. Also the thesaurus words I use commonly I replace with other words. I have weened my self from the television. Best of luck and hope to see more! >.<
@Cockeye1987 Good to know I'm not alone out there. I've been mostly working out with a friend and trying to stave off/fight off depression, otherwise I probably would've finished redoing my area by now and cracked into studying a bit more. I do still plan on making more of these though.
