You lose Friendship Points for any Gift that the person does not like, but they only refuse your Gifts in two situations:

Well, I was playing a test version of the game at the time. If they are still for sale after you use one to marry, it gives you another chance to buy one to ship for the Items list completion. I'll test that in my retail copy of the game when I have time.

They won't take gifts from people they consider 'strangers'!
Yes, this is true, and it becomes VERY important when it is a Mineral Town visitor. Neglect a Mineral Town character at the end of his/her visit and he/she may refuse your Gifts for almost a week the next year!
the liked/disliked gifts are the same as IoH but useful guide anyway for those who don't know...btw, "easy gifts" for lily do NOT exist, that girl needs to learn what modesty is

Gold isn't too difficult to acquire. I brought Lily's Heart Level up with nothning more than Gold from the mines, but you are right: she is a bit spoiled where Gifts are concerned... but beautiful, nonetheless!

If by 'subvillagers' you are speaking of the Cafe, Diner and Inn, this IS a different place from Sunny Island so they are different characters. There are not as many subvillagers either. There are only two Fishermen:, Ray and Martin and two Miners, Isaac and Slater. I'll do a video about them later as their houses and pets are rather interesting.
