@nismo32skyline Prelude S are not sold in the US and make 220hp at the crank... higher compression (11:1) different cam and closed deck block.. SH 200hp at crank 10:1 compression. Both have atts unlike base model preludes... very similar cars and were considered best handling car under $30k in 97 awesome cars and a lot of fun.

got a base model 98 myself, seems lighter than a type sh, like tgprelude said, it's 100 lbs weighing you down on the sh, definitely a great handling car, wish it was RWD :(

@mountaindew211 My engine had mid-high 60's on it. And his had 100 something but he rebuilt it at sometime, I forgot when. I know about Hondas and vtec. That's why if you read my first post you would see I said it burns more than your usual vtec engine. Preludes are known for being oil burners among other things.

@KoukiR I think because of engine size it burns oil, usual vtec is 1.6 1.8L around those years. I had my 2005 TSX 2.4 Gohc vtec and it burned oil a lil, and i had like 70k miles.

@HexagramMan Yes, the SH is slower stock vs stock. Not by a lot but a little bit. Honestly preludes aren't worth it at all. They have so many problems, major oil burning being one. It's a lot more than your usual honda equipped with vtec. You'd be better off getting another car entirely. You'll like it in the beginning but soon you will regret getting one, trust me.

@KoukiR Nah. They're not. They're great cars. Oil burning is an issue, but its not huge. Ludes are definitely worth it...either that or a n s2k...both have great handling and great power. Lude is a little heavy, but its not a "obese" car. Let's also remember that they are at the youngest 10 year old cars. No, the Prelude isn't the greatest car out there...maybe not even for the money. But if you're looking for a 2 dr, specifically Honda/Mitisubishi under 10k, go with the Lude.

@thebowmanation You might not have owned one. The oil burning wasn't a small issue it was a big one. Pulling over everytime you drive to fill oil isn't a norm, even for a honda. Again I don't know what he's looking for so I don't wanna make any suggestions. But one thing I have to say is my experience with the car and the couple other friends that had the car. Which all had problems.

No, the SH has the ATTS system which is pretty well a limited slip differential. There were no 4 Wheel Steer 5th generation preludes in North America, only in Japan. The ATTS is i think around 50 pounds heavier and also the SH has a bit different ball joint/control arm setup, so all of that extra weight slightly affects the acceration. Thus a non SH prelude is faster 0-60 but an SH can corner better.

@Jaran912 It's good that you got a japan motor, but the black top motor is still the lower end motor. The spec-r that your talking about will either have a red or blue top, but even then that is not the best h-motor. The best h-motor to get is the S-Type motor which also has a red top but is much faster. And the only difference on the american made preludes is if the whole car was made over here. My prelude was made for the american market but was made both car & motor in japan then shipped here

Wow dude, if your really a honda tech, I would never take my prelude 2 u. First off, h22a4's dont make 220 at the crank. Depending on what year they are, they come with 195-200hp at the crank. Jdm h22a's make 220 at the crank. An intake wont make 5-8 hp. Its been tested. They make about 2-3hp. H22's arent very responsive 2 bolt ons. DC headers wont do anything. MAYBE 1-2whp. The only real reason the black one is quicker is because the sh has atts...almost 100lbs more than the black one(base)

Yea they have the same EHP but when it goes through all the parts its has to, the regular prelude has more WHP and is lighter. Other than the HP factor he was power shifting the whole time while I wasn't. And he had the mods on top of that. All those put together makes a pretty big difference.
