  • Love Taylor, but I really don't think she can pull off Eponine vocally. The role is just too different in vocal style for her.

  • I don't understand the reason she over enunciates to that degree, it doesn't sound natural.

  • It's not even about being mean, and we're not even saying that she does not have the talent, she is just not vocally ready for the role. No one is gonna like it, it's not going to be good. Simple as that.

  • isn't this lea salonga?

  • @jamiepriscille it is

  • Can't wait to see Taylor as Eponine! Don't dismiss her just like that and don't underestimate her. She might surprise. :)

  • OMG I wanted lea michele so bad for this part. -___-

  • i bet taylor feels really bad about herself... there is not one american whos happy for her.

HA. SUCKS TO BE YOU TAY TAYYY

  • @MusicMakesItBetter21 Her fans are happy for her! Just because you think that way doesn't mean everybody thinks that way. I'm really open about her portraying this role. Aren't you a little quick to judge? No, it doesn't suck to be her. She's beautiful, famous, classy, rich and people love her.

  • @variel2 Not really... read these comments... none are possitive about taylor.... yea shes talented and beautiful and and classy and rich and famous but she will be a HORRIBLE eponine...

  • hey i made a cover of this song. it's my first video and it'd be boss if you could check it out and tell me if i'm any good and if i should make any more covers. thanks! xx

  • its official: taylor swift is defiantly playing Eponine :(

  • @DatingExperiment is it possible to die of disappointment and sadness? cause if so...i gata call 911

  • 90 likes a i will make a cover :-) xox

  • i dont like this version...too fast...

  • ......this song just describes me.....

  • singing this in cores at school

  • this is LEA SALONGA'S VOICE right?

  • Why Taylor Swift? Why? They really couldn't find someone else?

  • I absolutely CANNOT believe Taylor Swift is going to be Eponine... if I was Lea Michele, I would be PISSED.

  • @tuityfruity12aj taylor swift can do it you know. don't underestimate her!

  • @tuityfruity12aj if I was the whole world, I'd be pissed.

  • im strangely attracted to that girl on the front.

  • @weirdStranger5 she's like 12 dude...

  • A place near me is doing Les Miserables. I'm thinking of auditioning, and Eponine is my dream role, but I suck sooo much at singing =(

  • @dottiedots221 I'd say go for it! Break a leg :D

  • @fluorescence94 You're so sweet! Thank you, but I'm REALLY bad. I'm trying to get voice lessons. haha Some better girl will get it :(

  • Yeah, why the hell is Taylor Swift playing Eponine in the movie? I mean, I love Taylor. But, NOOOOOOOOOOO! Shes going to ruin Eponine :( She is a great singer, but not STRONG enough to be her. Besides, having a pop star in the movie might ruin it for everyone

  • can't wait for taylor swift to do this!

  • Glee killed this song :( beautiful though!

  • @Vikstarararaahah I don't like Glee per say, but I don't think they killed it. Lea Michele has a very theatrical and broadway voice, and pulls it off pretty well.

  • @asskickerone Yeah you're right she has got a good voice, but in glee they do auto tune it so much and I think that's what ruins it! She sounds good without it, she doesn't need it!

  • SO PUMPED FOR THE MOVIE. I mean, c'mon... Russell Crowe, Hugh Jackman, Aaron Tveit, Amanda Seyfriend, and either Taylor Swift or Lea Michele. This movie will be PERFECTION.

  • weird in the origional cast version it began like "and now im all alone again no where to go no one to turn to. did not want your money sir i came out here cuz i was told to, and now the night is near..."

  • guys stop complaining about taylor and enjoy this beautiful song

  • Really, cmon. Love Taylor Swift, but you GOTTA go for Lea Michelle (from Glee) for the movie... she's famous too, and is just absolutely amazing live! Check out her "On My Own" performance

  • <3 i refuse to even hear taylor sing this..

  • taylor shit is gonna sing this??? ewwwww

  • Taylor swift singing this?? HA!!! Come on just cast someone else who can actually sing.

  • i swear i watch Lea Salonga's On My Own every day.... i regret absolutely nothing.

  • it is a such a good chance for Taylor Swift .if you think she can`t do it,do it by yourself .

  • What were the directors thinking, casting Taylor Swift as Eponine?! Gag.

  • this song makes me wanna cry........ its beautiful but sad. and taylor swift is playing her??? god help us.......

  • i really love taylor swift as a songwriter and artist, but there is NO WAY she can do this song justice.

  • taylor swift got the role as eponine for the movie :(

  • lea salonga is the best eponine.... and now here comes taylor swift!

  • @ovitatirac I. Know. I wanna throw up on her vocal chords. Taylor's, I mean. I agree, Lea Salonga is the best one! Taylor canNOT sing this song.

  • Mmm... Taylor Swift playing this part in the upcoming film makes me want to cringe

  • @esmurko1 really?

  • @esmurko1 OMG PLEASE NO TELL ME THIS IS NOT TRUE!!! TELL ME THIS IS NOT TRUE. why couldn't god wait till i was a famous singer/ actress='( now i wana die.

  • @esmurko1 With that news, I am now going to go kill something. Throw knives at a passing stranger or something.

  • LEA SALONGA <3 :DDDDDDDD

  • The 86 dislikes are heartless justin bieber fans who dont understand what real music is.

  • @koalalover421 yes compared to the 2030 people who know what real music is, they dont matter

  • beautiful song

  • @Jakebrad4 @SeptemberAngle1 @Music101775 YAH! ITS ALMOST AS ANNOYING AS WHEN PEOPLE CALL AN OPERA A MUSICAL!

  • @NikkerFilms Well, it's technically not an 'opera'. It's a 'sung-through musical'.

  • @AwesomeActress101 touche

  • This pic reminds me of Saint Ursula school

  • Continuation, or voices like Jussi bjorling. Operas don't have voices that are classically trained only.

  • It's a musical for goodness sake. The musical American Idiot is sung through but it's not an opera. Furthermore operas employ pure operatic voices like Juan Diego Flores m

  • Um, I'm pretty sure that Les Mis is an opera....

  • @wickedlesmisfan it is a sung-through musical.

  • Wow! Les Miserables has to be my favorite PLAY!

  • @IncredibleGoliath sung-through musical.

  • @Jakebrad4 I HATE when people call musicals a play! It makes me mad!

  • I sung this song for a competition and got 1st place and im singing it again in my schools musical i figured this lady should b better at this!

  • this is beautiful by lea salonga I love her!!!

This is what i call music!!

  • We need this hit song on the top 10! On the Radio. Someone please let's get beautiful music on the radio. And I know it's only in my mind. My idea is just a river....

  • Like this if your heart breaks for her whenever you hear this song.

  • No offense to anyone, but Kaho Shimada's version of On My Own on the complete symphonic recording blows Lea Salonga's version out of the water. There's so much more emotion and she learned the entire song phonetically because she doesn't speak English.

  • my teacher wants me to use this song for home work

  • @TheDramaqueen143 mine too :)

  • @TheDramaqueen143 Hahaha. Your teacher's got a keen sense of humor then. Don't copy!!

  • i'm doing this in my school concert, love this song but absolutely terrified!

  • I love the rythm, but what I really think makes the lyrics. "I love but when the night is over he is gone the river's just a river..." an actually love song about the happiness of someone else no matter if they love them or not! A wonderful song sang by a wonderful person! Lea Salonga <3 <3

  • @Jakebrad4 YES!!!!!!

  • I love this song to bits ♥ "On my own, pretending he's beside me, all alone I walk with him till morning, without him I feel his arms around me, and when I lose my way I close my eyes, and he has found me" That is how I feel about my secret crush ♥ "I love him but only on my own"

  • This is random but.... Does it bug anyone else when people call a MUSICAL a PLAY?!?!?!?!?

  • @Jakebrad4 no because a musical is what we got from fusing opera + play

  • @Jakebrad4 It bugs my brother, he's an actor. And my mother (she is too).

  • Comment removed

  • @Jakebrad4 you hav no idea.

  • Comment removed

  • @Jakebrad4 absolutely! and then they ask whats the difference?!?!?!?

  • @Jakebrad4 Sometimes but I du it too sometimes so I can't say anything lol

  • @Jakebrad4 Just as those who work on the stage differentiate between Musical Theatre; and the "Legitimate Stage" even though you will find both genres on Broadway and the West End in the UK.

  • @Jakebrad4 I do professional Musical Theater and my mom constantly calls the shows I'm in plays. Makes me crazy. -.-"

  • @Jakebrad4 No.

  • @Jakebrad4 omg, yes!

  • @andrei112594 Lea Salonga is the voice of Mulan but not Jasmine. A quick trip to IMDB could have prevented your misinformation.

  • @trevormichaelbs she did do the SINGING voice of jasmine just not the speaking voice, quick trip to imdb ...

  • @trevormichaelbs She sang the A Whole New World (Aladdin 1)

try to search it on youtube.

  • @trevormichaelbs she sang a whole new world ^^, try to search it...

  • @trevormichaelbs No, she's also the singing voice of Jasmine.

  • this is Lea Salonga, ...watch On My Own of Les Miserables 10th anniv

  • Great music, Great lyrics from the Great composer. Great Casts; Great Lea Salonga.

  • Is it bad that I sing this song in Chilies and start fake crying...then everyone starts starring at me? :)

  • @Jakebrad4 nope. Not at all.

  • @Jakebrad4 rofl hmmm.... i guess it's not a great thing.... but hey -shrugs- you can't win 'em all ;]

  • 1,852 people have good taste of music

  • @25823666

    Thx very much

  • This song used to be just another great song from Les Mis to me, but it became so much more to me when I was rejected by the girl I loved.

Now this is my favorite song in Les Mis.

I learned the feeling of Eponine's pain of unrequited love.

  • this isint glee pople

  • This isn't Lea

  • Everytime I listen to this I cry, and I am not ashamed of that. TuT

  • this song is so heartfelt it put me to tears, i feel so bad for her... its a beautiful song thats for sure...

  • I prefer frances Ruffelle's, but i think it's because i heard that version first and got used to it. This version is still amazing though!

  • Omg, Lea's voice is very beautiful.

  • Im going to see les mis on wednesday in London. Ive wanted to ever since I did a singing workshop with the bbc a few years ago.. Wow im excited xD

  • Les Mis is to theater what Citizen Kane is to film.

  • This iz AMAZING!!!!!!! :D

  • is this Lea Salonga? I know that she did play Fantine or Eponine (maybe both) on Broadway at one point.

  • @alyssheartsanime I'm not sure, but I think it's Lea... and if it's not her, there's a singer that sounds JUST like her :P

  • @alyssheartsanime

Yeah, I believe this is Lea singing.

  • @haute03 Thats not Lea she's more nasal and sounds more pop music like this is the broadway version this sounds more like Sutton Foster but I don't think it's her.

  • @MyCatSaraphina . You obviously don't know anything about Broadway. You sound like you've never seen the play,at all. I bet you've never seen any broadway plays, at all. Stop making comments on something you haven't got the slightest idea of. This IS the voice of Ms Salonga! I bet you don't even know what a nasal sound is, or maybe you are referring to leah michelle of Glee , instead of lea salonga.

  • @649999able Hell no don't tell me that I've seen 21 Broadway musicals and after I saw this vid I didn't know who i finally realized u were talking about Lea Salonga I thought u were talking about Lea Michelle. But I'v been in allot of musicals at community theaters.

  • @MyCatSaraphina ok we're good.

  • @alyssheartsanime This si Lea Salonga and she did indeed play both characters at the same time,in the same play.

  • It seems like "pop-opera" would be a perfect term to describe Les Mis.

  • this song starts for me 1.42 <3

  • i cryed when i saw this... im an 18 year old starting qb at my highschool

  • I love this song and les mis <3

  • I adore this song, it actually made me cry when I saw Les Miserables.

  • We did plies in ballet to this song today. And then it got stuck in my head. Not that that's ever a bad thing XD

  • ONE OF MY FAV SONG EVER!!!!

  • I love this song, she Sing it so beautifully!

  • Technically Les Mis is an Opera because the entire show is singing except two lines...

--I know I hate when people post this kinda stuff in their comments...but I desperately (obviously) want to know what people think of my video of me singing some of On My Own...if u care, they're my only vids posted so far...sooo yeah..please watch? (:

  • as either a 4 hour movie or a 15-20 hour miniseries, Les Miserables would definitely work best as a visual medium, but NOT as a musical.

  • @AncientHistoryBuff Untrue. Les Mis is widely considered one of the best musicals of all time, say what you like but singing is one of the most emotive forms of communication that we have. To tell the tale of a man constantly hounded by the police for a crime that was insignificant singing is entirely necissary, The music tells the raw frustrations of a trapped man as he longs to keep his promise and protect his adopted daughter from all of the hells of a poverty stricken urban environment.

  • @williamswadling, that's your opinion. i like musicals like The Phantom Of The Opera (both the movie and stage show; I saw them in that order), but Les Miserables, in my opinion, simply DOES NOT lend itself out as a musical, in my opinion.

  • @AncientHistoryBuff As I said before. This isnt just my opinion, it is widely considered by many people. Both the Phantom and Les mis are right up there. And the concept of singing being the most emotive form of communication isnt opinion. Its been proven that the same message portrayed by song is far more effective than the same through normal speech and body language

  • @williamswadling, like i said, i like musicals, but I simply think that Les Miserables does NOT work as a musical. but whatever. to each his own.

  • @AncientHistoryBuff I respect your opinion, but I would like to point out one thing, its technically an opera, not a musical. A musical is where singing and speaking takes place, an opera only contains singing minus one or two spoken lines at most. I just wanted to point out a bit of terminology.

  • @BellumTabula, thanks.

  • @BellumTabula, thanks. it still, in my opinion, doesn't work as an opera, though.

  • @BellumTabula an opera is normally full on singing and more of a simple story line; a musical is more acting with music and a more complex story line. so it is a tough call, because les mis is only singing, but is quite a complicated story and even if everything is sung, it's sung very clearly so that is is very comprehensible. so in this case, saying that les mis is not really an opera would even be a compliment, because the story line is so sophisticated :)

  • whoever came up with the idea to turn one of the greatest novels ever written into a stage musical should be horsewhipped. At over 1,000 pages long, the novel is much too epic for the confines of a 3 hour theatrical performance.

  • *tears* this is beautiful.... My friend is singing this for an audition!

  • She's amazing. Eponine is by far the best character in this show. Well...female character anyway.

  • I have been asking to sing Les Mes in my school's glee club, and we are now doing On My Own. I am so happy. :)

  • @paygeee am really happy to read this :)

best of luck singing On my own in glee club

  • @ShandoCenarius thanks ! :)

  • love this song

  • The 78 dislikes are obviously from Cosette....

  • @dramakid95 You mean, Javert, do you not?

  • @dramakid95 you just made my day

  • poor rendition.

  • Lea salonga is the best

  • is that samantha barks

  • @MsOctoberstorm no that is not samantha barks singing. Lea Salonga is singing this version.

  • I love les mis (although I didn't understand half of it becasue I'm only 12) but I'm teaching myself this song and hope to sing it at a concert or something.

  • Les Miserables is an amazing show. Always put on with such passion and talent. I just wish it would come back to Toronto.

  • The scene right after this song made me cry so much...best musical i've ever seen. Period.

  • This is the song that fits me like no other song ever

  • WHY ARE THEY STILL MAKING MUSCIALS, THEY KNOW THEY CAN'T TOP LES MIS, I'VE HEARD 3 SONGS AND I KNOW ITS EEEEEPIC!!! LIKE IF YOU HAVE EARS

  • JAVIER FONTANA sings this song just AMAZING.

  • This is Lea Salonga and She's the best Eponine , ever!!

  • the emotion and the spirit is in :) work of love

  • had a go myself,please click on my name+take a look;) xxx

  • Really makes a connection when you know how it feels..

  • esta canción la cante en comedia musical!!

  • Love the vulnerability she manages to convey through her notes. Incredible. @MyZebraAteYourMom Lea is fillipino, and I perosnally didn't like Ruffelle's version. :/ Sorry. By the way, this recording was called the 'Dream Cast' for a reason.

  • This gives me goosebumps AMAZING GO GIRL:)

  • for god sake shut up people..........

  • Lea is so AMAZING! <3

  • I don't understand why people love this. I guess becuase American viewers like it, as she is american? But I've seen the west end UK version, and at the start its lovely and hushed- not like this where its loud and shaky. it needs to be from feeling, not belting it out! sorry, my opinion.

  • @MyZebraAteYourMom She ain't American.
