  • I loved this game, played it in the arcaed first, and later on my PC. Primarily because it was the first videogame I could take an Opel (my favourite car manufacturer) for a ride. And I loved the Eurodance Music of Racetrack 1.

  • I have the arcade emu setup with wheel and pedals. Still just as horrible to control.

  • I used to own this on the Saturn, it looked so awesome in videos, and after Sega Rally I thought Sega could do no wrong. How wrong was I though...the game was borderline unplayable, even worse than Sega Rally 2 on the Dreamcast. Avoid.

  • THERE´S SOMETHING THAT IT´S CALLED THE 3D ANALOG CONTROLLER FOR PLAYING THIS GAME...

  • @FERNIE1PERIODISMOPYO naw get the steering wheel. and fix your caps lock button. please.

  • Arcade cabinet:

    watch?v=aOCP2oBE1nY&list=PLBCDC45B68A9745BE&index=43&feature=plpp_video

  • that should be played with the saturn steering wheel

  • It's playable with steering wheel or the NiGHTS "3D" control pad... it's horrible with the d-pad

  • I also played it here in the UK recently, the steering wheel is supposed to try and right it self when you start steering, but the arcade had set it so high that you couldn't go round a corner with out the steering wheel whipping out of you hands in the other direction. so arcade or not, not the best game.

  • @blain93

I played it in arcade too but the wheel "drove itself" so it was hard...music was good though. :)

  • I've played on an arcade machine of this here in the UK about 10 years ago. Was quite easy to drive with the wheel and pedals. Was stupidly fast though.

  • @ohnoesmaybe

Because I can tell you are dyslexic from just reading a comment.

    Blocked for stupidity.

  • @ohnoesmaybe

    You are so fucking stupid...

You entirely read my comment the opposite of what it's saying.

  • Whilst the game itself sucks, it has to be said the graphics are on par (I think anyway) with Gran Turismo 1.

  • @INEEDNAWZZZ and let's not to mention that the music in the game is preety cool

  • i love 90's music i love 90's cars..!!!!

  • Light speed?? Looks more like Ludicrous Speed!

  • Played the PC version and the controls aren't bad. I've the original orange/black CD but my sister left a small crack on it.

  • Weird controls, but I've been on the arcade machine a few times and the controls are fine and the game is actually quite adrenaline pumping, but I have this version also and I wanto to like it but you can't hide from the fact that it is awful

  • Gran turismo is way better, and that's the best game from the series to me.

  • it sucks just as much on the computer version

  • if you punch a dolphin really hard in the face it bites you

  • 200 to 300km in 3 sec

  • First game I bought for the Saturn, was an easy game to play, seriously cannot compare STCC to GT. One is made as an ARCADE racer and one is made as a SIMULATOR.

  • wwwcakaloyuncom games

  • this game is perfect men . WTF r you talking?"?? wash your mouth with household soap before talking bad of sega touring , if you dont know how to play it is your problem , your position 8 of 8 !!! I prefer the hard games like this . BAD REVIEW

  • @91231comenzingstar if a game is hard because the controls suck, its wrong.

  • @91231comenzingstar opinions arent facts, you know. just cause you dont agree with him dosent make any of the things he's saying wrong.

  • the sense of speed is that comes this game attractive

  • subbd :D

  • I played the arcade and owned the Saturn version. The Saturn vers played the same as the arcade, but without the pumping speakers behind, both difficult to steer and control. Sense of speed was immense though. I love the music, prob the only person that does:).

  • NEGATIVE! I had the rare honor of being able to play STCC in the arcade and it was STILL hard to steer! This review reminds me of those days. Cool music though all licensed!

  • Shoulds drove the Supra.

  • nice noob play in this game

  • Two tips for making this game completely playable:

    - Tune the cars (On the "Saturn Side" you can tune the cars).

    - Use the analog pad or a steering wheel.

I never played it with the digital pad so I can't tell if you can make it completely playable for it by tuning the cars.

  • I actually closed this until I heard the music and brought it back

  • i bum this game, music awesome, graphics awesome, light speed awesome

  • Sega Touring Car Championship was not handled by AM2 or AM3, but farmed out to an outside studio, CRI. This is why the quality of the game is so low, and we have to deal with low-res textures, sluggish framerate, and shoddy controls. If Sega's own wizards were designing the Saturn version, it would have been spectacular. Unfortunately, AM2 was being stolen away on Yu Suzuki's personal vanity project, Shenmue.

  • but it looks really fun . okay if there are some steering problems then i practice to be good in this game . i like it somehow . maybe i buy this game and a sega saturn all in once because its an interresting console for me . =D

  • I`ve played the arcade version and it`s like 100 times better. The framerate is a mess in saturn version.

  • You could buy a Sega Saturn racing wheel. It should really help

  • I saw the Japanese arcade cabinet in Cork. It's the very same as the Saturn version.

    Handles a million times better.

BTW, this game came out in the US and Europe too.

  • 2:16 ROLLING STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAART

  • If this game had a more solid control scheme it would most likely be a good game.

  • I've played the Arcade version of this game , and it rocks . Sadly it seems SEGA lost that fun with the Saturn port . Shame .

  • @1996BeagleMan apparently the standared joypad was terrible for it...that may be why

  • Thankyou for this horrible review i just picked this game up on e-bay for .99c I would like to think that you had a part on the drastic reduction of value :D

  • I have this game on PC and it doesn't look so bloody blocky. I actually loved this game probably just for the music alone.

  • I found an arcade version of this when I went to france. It was a lot easier to control than what this sounds like. ill stick to playing sega rally and gran turismo...

  • I have the US PC version of this. I liked the odd racing music but mine had the music all mixed up and backwards for some reason. Or atleast it seemed that way.

Bought it along with an old cheap PC racing wheel. Worked well enough.

I should go find my old disc and see if I can get the game running again.

    Thanks for the review.

  • The arcade version was pretty good. I've played several times (in europe).

    But Daytona was way better.

  • The music was great, done up by avex trax, the guys that do a lot of J-Euro-beat for stuff like Initial D. I actually ripped the three songs off the CD and have them on my iPOD to this day. I played the arcade stateside and bought the English version the second it came out. One of my Saturn all-time favorites. Funny enough I think Gran Turismo and Forza control like crap, so go figure.

  • I loved this game. It took a long while to get the controls down, but after that it was butter smooth.

  • people who donate games to CGR are fucking awesome.

  • at least the engine sound is better than in most gran turismo even the gt5 prologue..

  • Mark, did I spy "AT" Automatic Transmission.

    You traitor!

  • There is an american version of this game but sadly the controls are the same.

  • damn, a pixel can damage my eyes

  • Does this game at least have the epic "Game Over" screen of Sega Rally?

    Oh my god, so epic.

  • lol anyone notice the speedometer? 300+ mph wtf lol

  • @Magikano its not in MPH lol its in KM/H

  • @Magikano its not in MPH its in KMH (kilometers per hour)

  • @Magikano thats km/h... so thats like 180 mph

  • Nice to see more coverage of this game but like you said the glaring issues overshadow any potential it had.

  • you should review penny racers :D

  • Looks alot like gran torismo

  • in the near future, you will bring down IGN

    :D

  • @runeman464 He is already nearly doing it almost kinda!

  • @ZackathuiaKawonga

    that's why i said NEAR future -.-

  • @runeman464 You take happy comments seriously :(

  • @runeman464 I LOVE YOU SO MUCH YOUR VIDEOS ARE AMAZING

  • @runeman464 dude i could bring down ign just by making honest reviews....

  • @runeman464 Lets hope so

  • @runeman464 Avant the Comic revolution on game reviews! IGN's are awful!

  • @runeman464 they already did, ign is shit now

  • @runeman464

    yeah bring down IGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @runeman464 he already did

  • Those graphics look horrible.

I guess I don't remember graphics being that bad in the mid-late 90's.

  • @toysjoe

Q: Can I donate a game or game system to Classic Game Room?

A: Yes! We love donations. We accept many and will give a shout out for donated games and whatnot. We do not need the game systems that you see on the show though. We will eventually have a forums section for this, but until then please contact our business email----> info (aaaaaaaaahhhhhhhtttt) inecom.com

  • Muhammed is the man-- Thanks to him and Mark! :)

  • awsome

  • do a skate 3 review

  • DTM Cars Rules

  • this ugly ass black bar at the bottom is FUCKING ANNOING!!

  • I just got myself an iPhone 4GS.

  • Hoping that leads to way more Saturn reviews, ESPECIALLY any hard to find imports ^_^

  • Nothing like a cold beer, a lord karnage sandwich and CGR to make a monday go away :)

  • stop showing old games!!!!! what are u talkin about?????!!!!

  • Can you do Sega Rally Championship review? that would be awesome :)

  • i had this for pc when i was a little kid haha

  • i think i played this game in a pizza hut

  • Best thing about this game is the cheesy 90s music, that's about it. Considering how playable the Sega Rally and Daytona ports were, this port was really disappointing even back when it came out in 1997.

  • this is one of those rare arcade racers that isn't easy to pick up and play.

  • There was a US release of this as I had it. I may still actually have it too, I gotta look. Its funny how I barely remember it, so that is no a good sign for a game.

  • If memory serves me right using the Saturns analog controller worked just fine. I have some fond memories of that game. But I played it with the analog controller.

  • I had this on my Saturn and it was very enjoyable... with the analogue pad originally sold with Nights. Using a standard d-pad was bloody awful but the analogue improved things massively.

  • @PJacko1985 Absolutely and the accelerator actually redirects the car forward, so if you lose control just put your foot down (thumb perhaps) and your'e sorted. One of my fave Saturn games and I'm fully aware how alone I am in that opinion.

  • "Get you glow sticks ready! SEGA TOURING CAR CHAMPIONSHIP!"

LOLZ I friggin love that line, too awesome.

  • ah bring on Gran Turismo 5 eh. Looking Forward to the CGR Review of that :D

  • Delite 2nd "&" in URL to get rid of the Gray bar.

  • @Adonik mine said "1&" but thanks a lot man!

  • @PivotB3stZ well, you can remove one and it will work :D

  • @Adonik yeah just making sure some people wouldn't be confused (ou never know) lol

  • maybe is a drift game :P

  • i hade this game ITS SOOO HARD!

  • The intro bit with crashing is so true of old racing games...

  • i'm one of the few who kinda likes this game. it's not that much fun in the start, but when you try this game with a 3D controller and understand the physics of the game, it actually gets fun!

  • "Driving fast with no controlling!" lol

  • Comment removed

  • @girinsanity driving fast with horrible controls.

  • Awesome music in this game. That's about it though. The framerate in the PAL version is REALLY bad. Far worse than this, which looks almost playable.

  • i can tell you: the ST-V-arcade-verion is as bad as the Saturn-game.

I played both versions 1997 and still can't believe that Sega f*cked up my beloved DTM that bad ._.

  • GranTurismo is the BEST!

  • @MonttuMachine of course it was after this one ;)

  • you right, car control is almost impossible using a digital control...

  • SEGA RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP REVIEW PLEASE!

  • @JollySilver He did one already.

  • @JollySilver he did already

  • @JollySilver Ugh, look these things up before you say them. He already reviewed it, god dammit.

  • this game is good for PC

  • This is better than Forza :D

  • GAME OVER YEAH!

  • gran turismo 2 kills it

  • Why did they put "SEGA" in every title of their games?

  • @Szczaqu

Sonic doesn't have SEGA in the title.

  • @AndreasNicklasson Actually, there was an arcade game called SegaSonic the Hedgehog.

  • @Szczaqu They're just like Nintendo when they decided to put 64 at the end of everything. XD

  • it look like a bad mobile phone game

  • your dude SEGA RALLY RULES LOL

  • You know, you don't need pointless rage and expletives to review a bad game. Thanks Mark for your classy, yet funny and intelligent game reviews.

  • No i played this in a arcade on holiday recently the steering wheel is really difficult to turn and control so you often start drifting and when the care gain grip the wheel snaps back in the opposite direction in a way that could snap a 8 yr olds wrist so it sucks in arcade or on the saturn

  • do some twisted metal reviews

  • @GrandTourGoku

    Yes, please.

  • @GrandTourGoku

    hell yeah

  • @GrandTourGoku i bet it has flame throwers!! do it Mark! do it!

  • @GrandTourGoku 1, 2, Black, and Head-On would probably just about suffice.

  • @Stinger2578 look i dont consider 3, 4 Tm games so yeah also Small brawl would be fine

  • @GrandTourGoku TWISTED METAL 2 IS THE BEST CONSOLE MULTIPLAYER GAME EVER MADEEEEEEEEEE (although bomberman world runs a close second)

  • @GrandTourGoku that'd be AWESOME he'd make a great commentary for that lmao and i'd love to see some twisted metal footage in HD!

  • @GrandTourGoku please

  • I play this is an arcade here in the UK

  • @Theholysam14 wow an arcade? the last time i was in one of those was when HALO was cool.....err, wait.. that never happened...

  • @kenobi90000

Check his review of ridge racer 7 i think it is

  • Light speed and no controls meant to be played with car crashes and giant fireball explosions on - anyway review is awesome!

I probably seen this game on arcade machine about 6 years ago, before they where driven out from city.

  • Oh gosh, this looks worse than I remember if that's possible....

The arcade machine was pretty good, how did they stuff this up so badly?

  • i know the game is terrible but doesn't the Saturn have a steering wheel?

  • Sega Rally is for sure the racing game to play on Sega Saturn but things are not so bad that you mention in your review. In fact it is a really nice playable FAST racing. Even though Gran Tourismo is a more deep simulation game it was really boring for me since I always like the pure fun of Arcade titles such as these. Either you own Sega Rally or Daytona or VR you ought to check this game also ;)

  • I love the horrible sega music and "arcade" controls =D

  • I have the feeling a show about transforming robots piloted by a blue haired girl, would be awesome. Obviously, Mark would have to be the Narrator.

    And it'd be a comedy/action... with Flamethrowers.

  • I played this in the arcade at the time. It was OK in the arcade, but the Saturn verion was dissapointing with shit controls like you say.

  • I still have this for my Sega Saturn and its truly an awful game with glitchy controls. I have played the Arcade version in Blackpool back in the day when Arcades werent full of cheap fruit machines. The arcade version is awsome, the Saturn version is teriible.

  • I really think Sega needs to remake all these games on the current gen consoles. Wouldn't it be cool to have a brand new Daytona USA on Xbox360 or PS3?

  • Good review

I thought it said COAL! at 1st near the end haha

  • theres one of these arcades for this game in Denmark, found one a half year ago in a bowling.. place xD its fun, but have to aggre. 8th place ftw lol

  • I had this game when i bought my Saturn, nice memories.

  • cool music for in 1996

  • The graphics aren't the best, I always thought it looked rushed. The Saturn steering wheel rather than a joypad gives better control. The final bonus track once you come first on the 3 main tracks is impossible though.

  • lol it's stcc xD

  • I played this in the arcade in the Philippines last week.. Ah, memories..

  • God, the Saturn graphics are so jagged and boxy, even for a 32-bit machine.

  • what would happen if someone went back in time and showed nintendo in '85 the wii

  • @jarvisiscool

    They order fix word

  • plzz make shinobi 3 review

  • Touring cars were a bit lighter and a lot more powerful back then.

Today they have 260-280hp. Back then they had 500hp and probably better aerodynamics.

  • It's just as bad in the arcade as well.

  • This is the game I always played when I was like 4!

  • Get a 3D Controller. Sega Touring Car Championship has not only the usual analog controls with it (almost all Saturn racing games have analog controls on the 3D Controller), but also analog acceleration and braking, because the 3D Controller has analog triggers, and games specially designed to support it could use them.

Really, for Saturn racing games, the digital pad is the worst way to play. Any Saturn racing game fan should have a 3D Controller and perhaps also an Arcade Racer wheel.

  • I prefer SEGA Rally Championship
