  • what drum set were you using?

  • Yhaaa, nice!

  • I set up in the central city district where I live in the middle of the night in places I scope during the day that look cool to play in, old building steps, covered lanes etc..It's liberating..BTW I'm nowhere near this guys skill, I do it to hear the difference from my small flat, try it till you get moved on.

  • I'm sure nature appreciated this!

  • only us drummers have to go to these extremes to find somewhere to practice.

  • If I had that kind of skill I would just drum 24/7 in public.

  • awesome stuff! I really gotta practice a lot! I'm rusty :P

  • Is that kit Yamaha? Sounds killer, my teacher had one very similar. Packs up into itself?

  • Great jam room .what size bass drum is that?

  • There's a snare hit that has a resonating noise that makes it sound like a bass note at 0:44

  • Great rehearsal space!! ;)

  • And then the drums start rolling down the mountain...

  • great sounding snare and you a fine hitter boy.

  • dude, where can i get one of those kits?...I've looked everywhere!

  • 0:21 Steve Gadd style :)

  • that was amazing ! love it

  • Where was this recorded, bro?

'cause there's a guy in Holland complaining about the noise...

    ;-)

  • you really got that hipgig sounding great!

  • Ohhhh my god dude. You are a undiscovered treasure of youtube.

  • Is that supposed to be the drum set Dave Weckl plays on in that instructional video? Because it's awesome lol

  • holy crap. teach me.

  • @iloveNgany soon I will do Skype lessons, when interested send me a message.

  • @uwepetersen Wow, Are you doing those under payment..?

  • i love this outside drumming!

  • i am so amazed that the snare and hi-hat create this incredibly clean sound with these grooves! keep it up!

  • what kit is that?

  • more importantly... where the hell are you? LOL nice work.

  • Man, that sounds so good.

  • Dude your drumming is sooo liniar cant you do anything else terrible. just kidding. nice beats.

  • What mic(s) are you using?

  • @DrumThat1 No extra mics, just the mice of the camera

  • @uwepetersen Wow!

  • @uwepetersen

You can tell that it's a camera mic because you can see absolutely no mics on the kit.

  • @DrumThat1 You can tell it's a camera mic because it sounds like a hard gate.

  • whats that sticking at 1:17

  • @tdrmn4lf Foot R L L R R L L and so on...

  • @uwepetersen LOL. I'd like to see this at like, 1/4 time! Nice, man.

  • Hey man, i've been thinking of getting one of these. Are they actually as portable as they seem? How many bags do you need for all the stuff in the vid? NIce playing btw ;)

  • @OnTheRoof1: 3 bags, the bass drum with all the drums in it, the hardware canister throne and a cymbal bag. Put it on a caddy and get a cymbal backpack and off you go.

  • @uwepetersen Cool, thanks buddy!

  • did i hear you say "hummm" at around 0:44 ? :D

  • ur neighbors must really hate you.... wait.... umm..... wow.

  • i like how the compression of the camera mic makes it sound so electronic. And, of course your view is awesome.

  • i like the tight snares !!!

  • i think its the best to play in the cave :D

  • Is there any way to "like" this twice? haha

  • what's so special in drumming on mountains????

  • Dude—this is just awesome. I want to join with with some bass in the mountains.

where is this, is you don't mind?

  • its a show for animal and they give money

  • You have absolutely amazing flow! I gotta learn how to groove like that... Teach me :D ha

  • Look into drum n bass, like Jojo Mayer type stuff, it's the ish haha

  • snare almost sounds gated like on the old drum machines.

  • @thispagesux thats a result of amazing technique! :)

  • 0:57 - 1:15

THAT'S A SICK, HEAVY, GROOVY LINEAR BEAT RIGHT THERE.

  • very respectable drumming. there must be some animals around there that are wondering what the hell is going on.

  • that set sounds amazing

  • incredible drum sounds!

  • That certainly looks like a great place to play outside where you have some sun, a great view, and won't disturb anyone =D Awesome drumming too!

  • very cool man :D

  • lol fagdrum no offence

  • @MusikscheuneWR what language are you speaking?

  • @TheSHAYTARDREBELLION He's speaking German.

  • NICE!

  • what did your set cost? =) and is it the hipgig snare?

  • @Villiaam: a new HipGig costs around $2500. the 12" hipgig snare is laying on the ground, the one I play is a 13" Yamaha stage-custom piccolo snare.

  • Interesting throne.

  • Awesome practice room mate! You are a lucky man!

(Animals in the woods - maybe they are not so happy!) Hahaha!

Is it the same FLIP camera that sounded so bloody good on the other video?

It's not so good at this time. Nice drumming anyway!

  • Your bassdrum is freakin' awesome. <3

  • finally not some annoying neighbor say to you not to play

  • Great drumming!! Am I playing in a linear pattern?

  • Don't you have to take down and set up the kit every time you want to practice?

  • wow, listen to that little camera's audio compression. lol. it actually sounds kinda cool

  • NICE!!!! reminds me of steve gadd hardcore

  • yamaha has that amazing sound

  • playing on a mountain is bad-ass

  • Cool!

  • Dude! awesome

  • one day you'll go up there and some coyotes will be playing some jazz fusion on it XP

  • Doesn't sound real. The snare gets cut off a lot. Might wanna edit that into a fade away instead next time.

  • man , such an unusual sound ... love it ... obviously not right for all situations but still .... really cool sound

  • Do you leave it set up?

  • that is a freakin long bass drum 0_0 haha

  • dude thats just a fagg drum

  • Dude that was amazing. And i love the fact that your jamming on a mountain hahahahaha.

Can i ask how much you got that kit for? I am looking into buying a small/easily portable kit so i can teach from home.

  • I bought it uses for $900. It's about two and a half thousand bucks for a NEW one.

There is also the Manu Katche Junior Kit for about 900 NEW. You also can convert your 16" floor tom to a bass drum. Gibraltar and Pearl offering conversion hard ware.

  • @uwepetersen how would you do that????? theres no bass heads that small are there?

  • @drummerbrown20 you can put regular Tom heads on the HipGig Bass drum

  • @uwepetersen whaaaaaaaaaat damn i gotta try that

  • @drummerbrown20 it doesnt necessarily have to be a bass head. so yes. they do exist. my great uncle has one.

  • @deathmitchdivine You could get a Pearl rhythm traveller..

  • DOPE

  • im thinking about buying a hipgig, dont know yet if its gonna b the al foster or the rick marotta....... are they really very different ?? what do u youtubeguys think ?? nice playing btw ;-)

  • I would say if you want a second kit, the Rick Marotta HipGig is the the one, but if you want it as the kit you always play, the Al Foster with the bigger drums is better.

The biggest difference is the size of the kick (16" Rick Marotta and 18" Al Foster)

  • @uwepetersen

thanks, thats a good thought..... still dont know ;-P its a difficult decision. ur toms sound "full" ??

thanks uwepetersen and again nice playing!

  • nicht schlecht! :D

  • man if i ever start doing weddings i'm totally picking up one of those kits

  • i love the sound of these portable yamahas! i played on one once.

  • What kind of snare is tht?

  • 13" Yamaha Stage Custom piccolo snare with a coated Remo Ambassador head.

  • man, awesome drumming!can you tell me how did you record this, what equipment you used?

  • Recorded it with a Flip camera and edit it with iMovie.

The compression of the camera mic is making it sound good I guess.

  • @uwepetersen Thanks i really dig tht sound.

  • i love the set. i almost bought this set about 6 years ago.

  • exelent drums!!!!!!!!

  • This is probably going to sound real dumb to all of you real drummers out there....but what's linear drumming? :\ sorry for the ridiculous question.

  • It's when you're playing involves mostly notes played one at a time, so no unison strokes.

  • I'm totally gonna do this now...

  • lol is your bass a floor tom

  • snare sounds like an echo in the mountain blaaah

  • awesome snare ...... gimmee

  • sick bass drum.

    sick sound.

    sick beats.

    sick landscape.

    5 stars.

  • hahahah ... me too ... 5 stars ... Drumming in the mountains !! Great idea

  • the canned sound gives it a real nice break beat feel. wish I had a mountain to rawk out with my cawk out!

  • thats beautifal!

how do u get ur drus up there

  • @drummerzachb888 take a truck put kit in truck drive up them mountain derzz lol

  • wow dude. amazing drumming and im digging the mountain =D

  • Dude that was T-N-T. Badass kit you've got there.

  • wow brotha you've got some smooooth chops, sounded great

    had to watch it again.

  • envious!

  • loooooooong bass drum

    very cool

  • which drums do you use here?

  • Yamaha HipGig with a 13" Yamaha stage custom snare

16" K-Crash, 20" K-Custom Dark Ride, 14" New Beat Hihat's, Vater Fusion Maple sticks. Remo heads.

  • i heard a little bit of steve gadd's paradiddle groove in there

  • Its crazy, how ever you have the mics set up, the snare and hi hat sound like they are sampled. You hear the sound get cut off by the next sound that enters. Pretty cool, especially for the part with all the singles going around at the end

  • There is some kind of noise gate on, that's why it sounds so sampled..

  • his drums are just tuned real nice

  • Thanks for the nice comment.

It's not only the tuning, it also is important how you attack/play the drums. The way you hold the sticks is also an important factor. When you hold the sticks to tight, you will choke the sound.

  • very true, good drumming starts with the grip

  • Sounds like that because the mic on the camera is getting overloaded so compression kicks in as a result, cutting off the tail of each sound but leaving in the attack.

  • what an amazing placement lol i bet it had a good feel in the mountains

  • what exactly constitutes as linear drumming?

  • one note at a time, not hitting 2 or more things at once

  • ahhh thats pretty good to know then. gracias senor!

  • cool

    why the mountians

  • ...cause I can't breath under the see. lol

It is near my house and I could not find a rehearsal space, plus it's free.

  • so you haul your drums there every time you practice?

  • I really like your foot work, because of your mixing heel down and up, that's cool, looks great, and what's more important, works for you!!! :)

I thing that when you mix those techniques, when you play heel up, muscles which work for heel down are relaxed, and when you play heel down, muscles which work for heel up are relaxed, so you can play longer and stronger without any pressure for legs, am I right?

    Cheers

    Btw, great linear grooving!!! :D

  • I love the way you play man!

I love linear grooving, and the way it sounds, plus i love how your kit sounds.

Drum kits do sound good outside though, I think because there is no horrible reverb.

Thanks for the video man, I really liked it :D

  • Do you play heel down or up? I think you use both in this video.

  • I like to use both techniques, what ever gets the job done.

    thanks for watching.

  • wow, i feel so inspired! for just seeing this im pretty sure tomorrow im gonna put my drums in my car and go groove out in some remote mountainous area. that would be so fun and peaceful, and you wouldnt have to worry about neighbours

  • Very enjoyable.

  • Dude, I'm always astounded by your playing. Your awesome.

  • love the sound of drums out doors!

  • Nice kit. I have a 16" converted floor tom bass drum, and I've been experimenting with heads. What did you use for the video?

  • T tried several different heads and came to the conclusion that double layered heads work best on small kicks. Here I use a clear Powerstroke4 on the better side and a Powerstroke Renaissance with a felt strip and a 5" hole on the front side. No muffling inside the drum.

  • hey dude

i was thinking about getting that same modle hip gig

did you have to muffle the bass to get that good sound?

  • No not really, the only muffling is on the resonant side where I put a felt strip across the head. I think since the tom's and snare are going inside the bass drum for transportation it would be unpractical to have a pillow of some sort in the kick.

  • Hey GREAT grooves dude. I was wondering if an inspiration like you would upload a video to explain how to do the grrove at about 56 seconds and ends on 1:15 please. i would love to learn that

  • yes I will do that, give me like a week and I will see what I can come up with. but the groove is actually not that hard.

all I do is play alternating 16th singles between the hihat and the snare. accent on the "ah of 2" and the "and of 4"

the hihat opens on 4 the kick pattern is first and last 16th of beat 1, e + of beat 3 and on 4

hope that makes any sens to you.

  • thankx! BIG HELP

  • that kit sounds excellent for how small it is!! by the sound you wouldn't even know it's that small!!

  • Wow, where do I start?

Great sounding kit for such unique sizes, you really make the playing look effortless and flawless and I totally dig the view.

    A++ pal.

  • Comment removed

  • is your bass drum a floor tom? tis nice but SO DAMN HIGH nice tho =P

  • The kick is 16" in diameter and 22" deep. for such a small bass drum it sounds amazingly good in real...

It's mad so the toms and snare can fit in it for transportation.

Google Yamaha Hipgig to find out more.

  • Nice, nice, nice...Man, the best way to learn how to be tight is to have your kit tuned as unforgivingly tight as this!!!

I love the little "bass slide" sound at 45"...

You're a natural man, keep it up.

  • There is some sick beats in this, keep it up man.

  • kit sounds wicked, awesome idea for the location (i bet the scenery was great) and there some very wicked chops.. keep on grooving and posting dude :)

  • Somebody has probably already asked this: What was it like lugging all that equipment up the mountain??

  • With my car, you can drive up there.

  • how much the set cost ? like your groove men !

  • The Yamaha HipGig HG6T46RM cost around $2500,- The 13" snare comes extra and cost about $120,-

  • what snare is that?

  • 13" Yamaha Stage Custom piccolo snare with a coated Remo Ambassador head.

  • abd weird bass.

  • the crap are you sittin on?

  • That is the drum chair for that type of drums. u can find it in drums booklets..go look it up

  • Man. That Hipgig just sounds so good it's not right.

  • man dude that snare just explodes! awesome

  • hey i like your yellow kit... nice drumming too... specially your snare sounds great...

  • Chops? Yes.

    Nice Drum Throne? Yes.

    Great View? Meh...

    Hahaha... kidding!

    Great stuff, sir.
