Aah, this must have been when he was touring with his old man recently. He is easily one of australia's best drummers, and a top bloke to boot! I've met him a few times, and he's even personally replied to an email. That, is a very rare quality, that obviously comes through in his playing, and the music that he makes. You obviously have to earn respect, but the problem is he does'nt give you much choice ;-)

Long before the Cog days Lucius was playing in "The Hanging Tree" and before that "Juice". All great aussie bands of the early-mid 90's. If you like stoner rock and you can find one, grab a copy of the self tilted album "The Hanging Tree." If you are a Kyuss fan this album will blow you away.

I totally agree with with Convisis, you just have to listen to stuff like my enemy and bondi to hear his creativity. But all three members are uber talented. I'm Irish and I have to say the talent that Australia have is scary, John Butler Trio, Cog, Karnivool wow! Lucius would certainly head the list but unfortunately when it comes to Mr Donati there is no competition, just listen to what he can does, he is a technician. It's really as we Irish say "horses for courses". Cog for life!

@damnnargles Agreed friend. Lucius is by far my favourate drummer though. Cog are brilliant. But speaking of Australia, if you havent got your hands on a copy of Karnivools new album I seriously recommend it dude. The drumming is amazing.. Blew my mind.

Lucius is certainly one of the best rock drummers to ever come out of Australia. it's not for playing like this though, it's for his part-writing and contribution of his drumming to making cog sound good. They'd be a lot more average without his power and creativity. I think his 'band' contribution is probably greater than Virg's.
