Wait till you get down to the last fews mls and see if your still feeling great. Its fukn torture. At least heroin withdrawal only lasts a few days. Methadone withdrawal takes months and months of mental and physical pain. Believe me i know from experience.
if it wasnt for methadone id be on the street or dead today! i dont get high off the drug! i live a happy normal life, i am doing so good i even get my carries where i take home the drug so i dont have to go to the drugstore everyday for my drink! methadone doesnt have to be a lifelong cure! but it to help you get on your feet again and when your ready you can start to ween off it and continue your life!

Health professionals, nursery, our family Doctor, school, friends, family, have all seen the transformation of my Daughter, who is now finally happy. I would not have been able to accomplish this without the help of Methadone.
Addiction is a disease,its hard for the people that has never been addicted to herion or any other type of hard drugs. to understand this scientific fact. I grew up doing drugs and it became my lifestyle. But for the past 7 years opiates has been my drug of choice. @DirectToView i agreee, i myself used drugs by whole teenage life, but by the time i was 20 i got on the methadone program and it saved my life, and many others around here! i have been on methadone for a little over 5 years, the highest dose i was on was 90 in the begining, but for the past year i ahve been going down 2mls/month which is the right way to do it if you want to come off it without getting sick or turning to dope! today im at 28mls and ill be off it next year i feel great! :)
It yes it wasnt just the methadone,it was mixing the klodipin an xnax that would of caused the death..and further more that clinic should be sued,yeah. My xlinic is totally ligit with 3 profesional docters that do a full medical exam and I get profesional cousloling and im sorry for her lost but dont be blameimg the methadone alone,it was the unproper care of the unlisences people that ran that clinic. This clinic didn't have a license. No proper clinic would give you klonopine and valium on methadone. I am on methadone and a low dose of klonopine. And I have been great over a yr. That clinic should be sued!!

Ive lost sooo many friends to the lethal combo of methadone & benzodiazapam...i have 2 kids by 2 men & both men died from overdosing on these drugs...as well as many more of my friends...im on methadone myself & have been for many yrs now & it works for me, but i also know the dangers associated with it. Respond to this video... If you are getting methadone in pill form then that is a different story altogether. I have never come across methadone in that form but from what I have read it is accompanied by a chalk filler which if not filtered out will cause microembolii (?) in the lungs and other tissues so it is probably best avoided.
@shoutatthesky Unless you inject the tablets, they won't cause any harm due to the fillers. Methadone tablets are given out in U.K if you have to fly, as liquid methadone and air travel is a no go zone for amounts over 100ml.

Yes, methadone is given as takeaways for overseas trips, and you need an export licence from the home office to take it out of the country...but some countries forbid the import-I should imagine USA may be fussy, but Europe is ok. Takeaways are allowed for ''trusted'' long term users, but nowadays ''supervised'' is the thing, until trust is earned.
@kristalblair I don't know where you are but here in New Zealand the form of Methadone we get is fine for injecting. At least I never had any problems injecting it a year ago when I was on it. Most people have to take it on site in front of the pharmacist (we don't have clinics here you just go to the chemist/pharmacy) but if people are given takeaways it come in a pure liquid form with no additives like sugar or juice. I took the extra precaution of putting it thru a 0.2 micron filter.

Methadone has slightly higher bioavailability intravenously than orally - at least that is what the evidence from the lab says. However anyone who has injected methadone will tell you that there is a rush - not what you would get from heroin but still a rush. And even if there was no rush people would still inject because for many people injection is the preferred method.

@kristalblair Well one thing I've learned from my journey through addiction is that you have to realize that we don't have self control. You may be different but I know if I can inject it I probably will, and with Suboxone that temptation wasn't there. Methadone however is another story.
@kristalblair Yes Suboxone, rather buprenophine does have a ceiling effect. I was referring to your comment that suboxone "send them(addicts) into instant withdrawal". This is untrue. When suboxone is taken correctly the naloxone remains inactive and should not send people into withdrawal. One important aspect is that suboxone must be taken when a person is already in withdrawal. Otherwise the buprenorphine cannot attach itself to the opiate receptors because they are occupied.
@kristalblair Morphine, codeine, and heroin(diamorphine) all end up as morphine in the brain. That is the substance that works on the opiate receptors.
This woman should get her facts straight. The reason for all these deaths is not just methadon deaths. They are addicts using methadone bought illegaly and 2: combined with benzos like Valium, Xanax and Klonopin so its a mixture of those that kill.

ive been on methadose for 6 years and i also went in for oxy codone (percocet) . it has saved my life. i was spending all my money i was always going throgh withdrawl. now i have money and i am never sick...
If you take to much of any drug you can die, period. Methadone has saved my life and many other people as well. If you mix it with other things you can die, take to much same thing, if you take your proper amount your fine. Its not the drug that kills people its the user.
and YES you CAN overdose on methadone. Being I almost grew up in a methodone clinic, people want more releif, take more, and overdose. It happens more than its even documented. We had a neighbor who it happened to.

my mom does it. She abuses me when she doesnt get it. She used to do cocain and drink. Now her emotions, sleep patern, and heart are dieing. She sells it to a woman who is severly addicted to it. It will not save you. It will cause your families pain if you are not careful. I'm 17. It starts as a life saver.....but how are you really being drug free if you are using a substitute? @Robbilv, how so? Everyone I know on suboxone is now addicted to suboxone. It's one and the same to me. Methadone clinics have a better structure than subs tho. The only way to taper off subs is to cut the pill in little pieces, which is really hard for a junky to look at a little piece of a pill and think it will keep them well. I'm currently on 1 mg methadone and have milder wd's than when I took subs. Doesn't matter weather it's methadone or sub, you're still addicted to a drug that's a hard

First off, Methadone didn't kill this person. It was the combination methadone and benzoes any doctor worth a shit should know that. 100% doctors fault. Second, methadone in a clinic setting is a walk in the park to get off of. One milligram a week reduction all the way to zero. The DEA exaggerated the actual death toll methadone had on people and caused most people to think badly of it. Out of the 60 something deaths the DEA had claimed it caused, only 14 of them could be accounted for. I think the main cause of methadone deaths has to do with over prescribing it without any knowledge. Health care providers also tend to prescribe it in lethal combinations with xanax and klonopin. It's a shame this guy died but in my opinion the main cause was the facilitys cluelessness
I'm a patient in methadone maintenance treatment and it's saving my life! I think the problem here was the rehab, not the methadone! First off they weren't licensed and second off, everyone who has a sense of methadone knows to never prescribe it or take it with xanax or any other nerve pills. That rehab facility's uneducated approach to prescribing is what caused the death. Theres 2 sides to every story and people are so busy criticizing methadone that they fail to realize the benefits it has.

@naocalcha7573 It depends on how much opiates your husband was taking before he started at the methadone clinic and how often he was using them all that matters in how much he's suppose to be taking and what dose will work the best for him usually which ever dose he is on he should stay at that dose as long as he can before moving up to a higher dose because usually you would know when it is enough becuase you will get side effects like vomiting and geting sick thats how you know its too much.
@naocalcha7573 How high is his past opaite tolernace? Like how much heroin/opiates was he using prior to the methadone treatment. Some people can tolerate 120mg methadone dosage, although I personally think that's pretty high myself. Does he seem to be okay with taking that dosage? I'm only taking a 50mg dose because I didn't want nothing higher and it seems to be holding me over fine. I hope your husband is okay and he might be able to try lowering his dose to see how that works for him.

in the U.K, methadone tends to be made by Martindale or Rosemont, and is very Stable. My friend used to have a pharmacy that ''mixed up'' their own formula from methadone powder, and she said that it was ''very variable''. Also, new methadone patients need close supervision due to the hugely variable effects as it continues to build up in the body for up to 10 days [G.P advice] Methadone kills many more people in uk than heroin.

Methadone has saved the life of millions. Although I feel sorry for what happened to this woman, I can't condone here using her grief as a weapon to punish others.
What happened to her husband was a tragedy, but think of the thousands who wil die from heroin overdose and HIV and Hepatitis from sharing needles. Not to mention the hundreds of potential victims of crime that will be affected when people can't get their methadone.

im 19 yrs old an have been on methadone for almost 2 yrs. i started at the clinic but then could no longer afford the 15 bucks a day and have now been getting the methadone from a doc. for about a yr now as WELL as klonopin. my withdrawls from the methadone are 10x what they were on oxycontin. methadone has me by the balls and idk what to do. ive tried the suboxone yrs ago and didnt like it. are there ANY other perscription options?
Manufacturers admit there is up to a 10% variance in strength for Methadone they sell. Add to the fact that it comes in 10:1 concentrates for the pharmacist and the result is your dose is not what it appears to be. That 50ml can have anywhere from 25 to 100mg or more. Not to mention the other foreign substances that can be found in your juice that's not suppose to be in there. If you have carries, have it tested, you'll see what I mean.
New pharmacy, right away I noticed an inconsistency in the juice and aked them about it. Was told all Methadone was the same. Began to develop blisters deep under the skin on my face along with other strange symptoms. After a while I finally went back to the old pharmacy which was far across town. I was back to normal within a month. Later, I had a new 2-week script, I went back to the closer pharmacy to give it another shot. 3 days after, I awoke to find cysts on my face and forehead. BEWARE!
I am a recovering addict, This is my 2nd time on it and I hate it yes it keeps me from using Heroin but I am a slave to the Methadone like a ball and chain. I always feel like shit every single day and if someone says it does not mess with your state of mind that is the biggest lie I belong to a Methadone group online and every one feels the same it makes my moods flip from happy to anger in seconds, I am more an addict now then I was when I was using , The bottom line is DON'T go on Methadone..

@DENYSE265 Yes it is easier to come off heroin than methadone but 5-6 days? Maybe if you are really lucky and you have only had a habit for a couple of weeks. A lot of people find it takes months to fully overcome the effects of withdrawal. Some will take a year or more.

Disagree with this video, they focus on the negativity and not the positive, i was on methadone after 4 failed back surgeries, was as close to being pain free as i have ever been, and the Dr tells me "We hafto switch you because there are new regulations that we have to do an EKG every visit(every 30 Days)." so they took me off put me back on Oxys which i HATE with a passion, they control you even if taken as prescribed, folks back off methadone.
This is ridiculous. Obviously this inpatient facility was the problem, not the methadone. She stated that the facility was not liscensed to give out methadone for opioid addiction.
That is illegal and they can/should get fined by the DEA/FDA. I also find it odd that the inpatient facility didn't check on him from 2 a.m. until 1 p.m. the next day. What kind of facility is this?
Methadone may be "technically" at fault here, but really it's the facility that is the root cause.

\Yes you can.You can't abuse them but you can take a small dose of a benzio that is part of your daily regiment and methadone.It is those that abuse it and take more then the prescribes dose that causes death
It is so fucking stupid how society focuses so much on how specific substances are deadly and one persons personal story about how their loved one died from it. I think the focus should be on the irresponsibility of the individual that is either taking it or prescribing it. Anything can kill you in excess. @snikkadoodle Sorry for your loss. Do you know what kind of a dose he was given or took? The reason I'm asking is because I've been on the methadone for years now but I know they don't normally give you dose and let you go, what the usual method is if your addicted to opiates they have to know how much heroin your using a day and they make you come back 3-4 days in a row and urine test you and as long as your showing opiates each time they start you at 40-50ml.
@snikkadoodle Then they make you stay at the clinic after ingesting the methadone for 30-45 minutes to make sure you don't have a bad reaction to the drug. For most heroin users that's considered a fairly low dose so each week they'll increase your dose 5-10ml. a week until your comfortable and don't have any craving for the heroin. If this wasn't how your bro was treated and it was at a clinic you could have a serious case of malpractice. Again though man sorry for your loss.
I prefer methadone over heroin and morphine. The reasons: 1) high oral bioavailability; 2) acts a lot longer (half life ~ 24 hours); 3) far easier to dose than heroin because it's in tablet form in my country; 4) very effective pain killer; 5) a lot cheaper than heroin

I took methadone once not knowing what is was. I was told that ut was like vicodin and would help back pain. I took it for about 30 days and then quit. I was in bed puking and shaking not able to sleep, but yet I was exhausted for about 7 days. For anyone out there that is on meth or thinking about it, do suboxone!!!!! Way better and much easier to get off of.

There's good and bad with the methadone, but 1 major fact is the docs are gonna try to have you on it for a long long time, so be prepared to fight to have your doses decreased

The rise in deaths from methadone isn't from the addiction clinics, it's from the pain management clinics. It is very difficult to get take-away doses in most states and is ALWAYS in liquid form diluted with juice or water. The DEA has stated that nearly all of the abuse of methadone and related deaths have come from the pill form.
bottom line is methadone did not kill this man, the person who gave this guy the high dose and combination of drugs is at fault not the drug itself. I have been on methadone for 7 months and it has worked wonders, im clean now and happier than i have been in years. Personally i dont think the woman they interviewed knew what she was talking about.

methadone is a life saver for me. i've had horrible lower back pain for the past 5 years resulting from a pretty gnarly car accident. vicodin and oxycontin just didn't cut it for me. methadone, however, has proven to be quite the effective medication and has left me virtually pain-free. :)

I was a herion addict with a 10 bag a day, shooting habit..I then went to get help from methadone, I didn't think it would really work, however, I've been clean now for almost a year and continue to take it. I know it's taking one addiction and replacing it with another, but it's alot safer then sticking yourself with a needle and at least it don't spread any diseasee!

@96hatchy i gotcha...i been on methadone for bout 9 yrs startin at bout 120mgs a day then when they cracked down on it my dr rx's me 80mg a day w/dilaudid 4mg for breakthru pain but ive never felt em ever...(i take it orally though)ive tried oxycododone,hydrocodone morphine etc while on the methadone(all orally)and have never felt it :(

Methadone is fucked up along with Buprenorphine. I have taken both and been addicted to both. The withdrawal is awful, lasts up to a month. You sleep little at all when coming off of them. The US government is fucked up in prescribing long acting opiates to people who need help to get clean from shorter acting opiates. They should be prescribing diacetyl morphine or fentanyl in small doses to allow the addict to get accustomed to normal life, and then tapering them down so withdrawal lasts days
I broke my wrist approx 15 years ago and the original surgery was done very poorly which resulted in 4 other surgery's to attempt to correct the damage. So 5 surgery's in 5 years and alot of pain I was being prescribed percocet, oxy's, dilahdid, hydromorphone and alot of it and I came out of it with a fused wrist and a very bad addiction. I started buying on the street because I was cut off and banned from filling a script in my name and this went on for another 7 years....see continued..

The biggest factor in these deaths is the combination with other drugs such as anti depressants never ever combine an opiate with any other drug no matter what.

Im in the Methadone clinic and I have to agree with most. It helps alot. but when u mix it with Benzo or other drugs then ur not taking it serious. It can help or it can hurt. Just depends how bad that person want to be clean.
the reason why this guy ODed (in the vid) is because the detox facility wasn't licensed to use methadone to treat opioid dependency... therefore, they probably have had little experience/knowledge with how to dose methadone in new patients and therefore it's the fault of the detox facility, NOT methadone itself... incompetent doctors/nurses are the cause for his death here. it doesn't mean that methadone is anymore 'dangerous', it just means you have to understand the drug you're taking...

@ZaHa559 i am also on MMT, 160mg/day actually. i've been struggling with opioid dependency and addiction since 2005. i tried everything i could to stay clean, including treating my adult ADHD. the treatment for my adult ADHD helped me to stay clean for a while but i eventually gave in and relapsed on the opioids. this is when i decided in late last year (oct 2009) to get on methadone. it's been more than helpful so far, and i wish i got on MMT a long time ago.
@ZaHa559 those who abuse their methadone (by double dosing their takehomes) or who take other respiratory depressants (like benzos) with their methadone are giving those who put the effort to use methadone properly a bad name. this is because in the majority of cases (if not all) of those who 'overdosed' on methadone are from abuse (non-medical purposes, taking higher than your prescribed dose, etc.) or from mixing with other psychotropic substances. take responsibility for your actions guys..

Respond to this video... If you are getting methadone in pill form then that is a different story altogether. I have never come across methadone in that form but from what I have read it is accompanied by a chalk filler which if not filtered out will cause microembolii (?) in the lungs and other tissues so it is probably best avoided.

@shoutatthesky Unless you inject the tablets, they won't cause any harm due to the fillers. Methadone tablets are given out in U.K if you have to fly, as liquid methadone and air travel is a no go zone for amounts over 100ml.

Yes, methadone is given as takeaways for overseas trips, and you need an export licence from the home office to take it out of the country...but some countries forbid the import-I should imagine USA may be fussy, but Europe is ok. Takeaways are allowed for ''trusted'' long term users, but nowadays ''supervised'' is the thing, until trust is earned.

@kristalblair I don't know where you are but here in New Zealand the form of Methadone we get is fine for injecting. At least I never had any problems injecting it a year ago when I was on it. Most people have to take it on site in front of the pharmacist (we don't have clinics here you just go to the chemist/pharmacy) but if people are given takeaways it come in a pure liquid form with no additives like sugar or juice. I took the extra precaution of putting it thru a 0.2 micron filter.

Methadone has slightly higher bioavailability intravenously than orally - at least that is what the evidence from the lab says. However anyone who has injected methadone will tell you that there is a rush - not what you would get from heroin but still a rush. And even if there was no rush people would still inject because for many people injection is the preferred method.

@kristalblair Yes Suboxone, rather buprenophine does have a ceiling effect. I was referring to your comment that suboxone "send them(addicts) into instant withdrawal". This is untrue. When suboxone is taken correctly the naloxone remains inactive and should not send people into withdrawal. One important aspect is that suboxone must be taken when a person is already in withdrawal. Otherwise the buprenorphine cannot attach itself to the opiate receptors because they are occupied.

@Robbilv, how so? Everyone I know on suboxone is now addicted to suboxone. It's one and the same to me. Methadone clinics have a better structure than subs tho. The only way to taper off subs is to cut the pill in little pieces, which is really hard for a junky to look at a little piece of a pill and think it will keep them well. I'm currently on 1 mg methadone and have milder wd's than when I took subs. Doesn't matter weather it's methadone or sub, you're still addicted to a drug that's a hard

First off, Methadone didn't kill this person. It was the combination methadone and benzoes any doctor worth a shit should know that. 100% doctors fault. Second, methadone in a clinic setting is a walk in the park to get off of. One milligram a week reduction all the way to zero. The DEA exaggerated the actual death toll methadone had on people and caused most people to think badly of it. Out of the 60 something deaths the DEA had claimed it caused, only 14 of them could be accounted for. I think the main cause of methadone deaths has to do with over prescribing it without any knowledge. Health care providers also tend to prescribe it in lethal combinations with xanax and klonopin. It's a shame this guy died but in my opinion the main cause was the facilitys cluelessness

I'm a patient in methadone maintenance treatment and it's saving my life! I think the problem here was the rehab, not the methadone! First off they weren't licensed and second off, everyone who has a sense of methadone knows to never prescribe it or take it with xanax or any other nerve pills. That rehab facility's uneducated approach to prescribing is what caused the death. Theres 2 sides to every story and people are so busy criticizing methadone that they fail to realize the benefits it has.

@naocalcha7573 It depends on how much opiates your husband was taking before he started at the methadone clinic and how often he was using them all that matters in how much he's suppose to be taking and what dose will work the best for him usually which ever dose he is on he should stay at that dose as long as he can before moving up to a higher dose because usually you would know when it is enough becuase you will get side effects like vomiting and geting sick thats how you know its too much.

Some people can tolerate 120mg methadone dosage, although I personally think that's pretty high myself. Does he seem to be okay with taking that dosage? in the U.K, methadone tends to be made by Martindale or Rosemont, and is very Stable. My friend used to have a pharmacy that ''mixed up'' their own formula from methadone powder, and she said that it was ''very variable''. Also, new methadone patients need close supervision due to the hugely variable effects as it continues to build up in the body for up to 10 days [G.P advice] Methadone kills many more people in uk than heroin.

Methadone has saved the life of millions. Although I feel sorry for what happened to this woman, I can't condone here using her grief as a weapon to punish others.
What happened to her husband was a tragedy, but think of the thousands who wil die from heroin overdose and HIV and Hepatitis from sharing needles. Not to mention the hundreds of potential victims of crime that will be affected when people can't get their methadone.
The fact is we are not getting the whole story here.

im 19 yrs old an have been on methadone for almost 2 yrs. i started at the clinic but then could no longer afford the 15 bucks a day and have now been getting the methadone from a doc. for about a yr now as WELL as klonopin. my withdrawls from the methadone are 10x what they were on oxycontin. methadone has me by the balls and idk what to do. ive tried the suboxone yrs ago and didnt like it. are there ANY other perscription options?

Manufacturers admit there is up to a 10% variance in strength for Methadone they sell. Add to the fact that it comes in 10:1 concentrates for the pharmacist and the result is your dose is not what it appears to be. That 50ml can have anywhere from 25 to 100mg or more. Not to mention the other foreign substances that can be found in your juice that's not suppose to be in there. If you have carries, have it tested, you'll see what I mean.

New pharmacy, right away I noticed an inconsistency in the juice and aked them about it. Was told all Methadone was the same. Began to develop blisters deep under the skin on my face along with other strange symptoms. After a while I finally went back to the old pharmacy which was far across town. I was back to normal within a month. Later, I had a new 2-week script, I went back to the closer pharmacy to give it another shot. 3 days after, I awoke to find cysts on my face and forehead. BEWARE!

I am a recovering addict, This is my 2nd time on it and I hate it yes it keeps me from using Heroin but I am a slave to the Methadone like a ball and chain. I always feel like shit every single day and if someone says it does not mess with your state of mind that is the biggest lie I belong to a Methadone group online and every one feels the same it makes my moods flip from happy to anger in seconds, I am more an addict now then I was when I was using , The bottom line is DON'T go on Methadone..

@DENYSE265 Yes it is easier to come off heroin than methadone but 5-6 days? Maybe if you are really lucky and you have only had a habit for a couple of weeks. A lot of people find it takes months to fully overcome the effects of withdrawal. Some will take a year or more.

Disagree with this video, they focus on the negativity and not the positive, i was on methadone after 4 failed back surgeries, was as close to being pain free as i have ever been, and the Dr tells me "We hafto switch you because there are new regulations that we have to do an EKG every visit(every 30 Days)." so they took me off put me back on Oxys which i HATE with a passion, they control you even if taken as prescribed, folks back off methadone.

This is ridiculous. Obviously this inpatient facility was the problem, not the methadone. She stated that the facility was not liscensed to give out methadone for opioid addiction.
That is illegal and they can/should get fined by the DEA/FDA. I also find it odd that the inpatient facility didn't check on him from 2 a.m. until 1 p.m. the next day. What kind of facility is this?
Methadone may be "technically" at fault here, but really it's the facility that is the root cause.

I think the focus should be on the irresponsibility of the individual that is either taking it or prescribing it. Anything can kill you in excess. The reason I'm asking is because I've been on the methadone for years now but I know they don't normally give you dose and let you go, what the usual method is if your addicted to opiates they have to know how much heroin your using a day and they make you come back 3-4 days in a row and urine test you and as long as your showing opiates each time they start you at 40-50ml.

@snikkadoodle Then they make you stay at the clinic after ingesting the methadone for 30-45 minutes to make sure you don't have a bad reaction to the drug. For most heroin users that's considered a fairly low dose so each week they'll increase your dose 5-10ml. a week until your comfortable and don't have any craving for the heroin. If this wasn't how your bro was treated and it was at a clinic you could have a serious case of malpractice. Again though man sorry for your loss.

I prefer methadone over heroin and morphine. The reasons: 1) high oral bioavailability; 2) acts a lot longer (half life ~ 24 hours); 3) far easier to dose than heroin because it's in tablet form in my country; 4) very effective pain killer; 5) a lot cheaper than heroin

i can't beleive a hospital gave him colonapin and valume on top of methadone. methadone can be a great pain killer but when mixed with barbituates especially it can be deadly even for drug addicts these doctors should have known that before they prescribe it. the reason why people are dying is because doctors that are unfamiliar with addiction are unfamiliar with methadone. they should certainly be educated about it before prescribing it because that was a very irresponsible mix. its malpractice

I took methadone once not knowing what is was. I was told that ut was like vicodin and would help back pain. I took it for about 30 days and then quit. I was in bed puking and shaking not able to sleep, but yet I was exhausted for about 7 days. For anyone out there that is on meth or thinking about it, do suboxone!!!!! Way better and much easier to get off of.

The rise in deaths from methadone isn't from the addiction clinics, it's from the pain management clinics. It is very difficult to get take-away doses in most states and is ALWAYS in liquid form diluted with juice or water. The DEA has stated that nearly all of the abuse of methadone and related deaths have come from the pill form.

I have been on methadone for 7 months and it has worked wonders, im clean now and happier than i have been in years. Personally i dont think the woman they interviewed knew what she was talking about.

methadone is a life saver for me. i've had horrible lower back pain for the past 5 years resulting from a pretty gnarly car accident. vicodin and oxycontin just didn't cut it for me. methadone, however, has proven to be quite the effective medication and has left me virtually pain-free. :)

forget this asshole, Methadone has saved my life! I was a herion addict with a 10 bag a day, shooting habit..I then went to get help from methadone, I didn't think it would really work, however, I've been clean now for almost a year and continue to take it. I know it's taking one addiction and replacing it with another, but it's alot safer then sticking yourself with a needle and at least it don't spread any diseasee!

Methadone is fucked up along with Buprenorphine. I have taken both and been addicted to both. The withdrawal is awful, lasts up to a month. You sleep little at all when coming off of them. The US government is fucked up in prescribing long acting opiates to people who need help to get clean from shorter acting opiates. They should be prescribing diacetyl morphine or fentanyl in small doses to allow the addict to get accustomed to normal life, and then tapering them down so withdrawal lasts days

I broke my wrist approx 15 years ago and the original surgery was done very poorly which resulted in 4 other surgery's to attempt to correct the damage. So 5 surgery's in 5 years and alot of pain I was being prescribed percocet, oxy's, dilahdid, hydromorphone and alot of it and I came out of it with a fused wrist and a very bad addiction. I started buying on the street because I was cut off and banned from filling a script in my name and this went on for another 7 years....see continued..

the reason why this guy ODed (in the vid) is because the detox facility wasn't licensed to use methadone to treat opioid dependency... therefore, they probably have had little experience/knowledge with how to dose methadone in new patients and therefore it's the fault of the detox facility, NOT methadone itself... incompetent doctors/nurses are the cause for his death here. it doesn't mean that methadone is anymore 'dangerous', it just means you have to understand the drug you're taking...

@ZaHa559 i am also on MMT, 160mg/day actually. i've been struggling with opioid dependency and addiction since 2005. i tried everything i could to stay clean, including treating my adult ADHD. the treatment for my adult ADHD helped me to stay clean for a while but i eventually gave in and relapsed on the opioids. this is when i decided in late last year (oct 2009) to get on methadone. it's been more than helpful so far, and i wish i got on MMT a long time ago.

@ZaHa559 those who abuse their methadone (by double dosing their takehomes) or who take other respiratory depressants (like benzos) with their methadone are giving those who put the effort to use methadone properly a bad name. this is because in the majority of cases (if not all) of those who 'overdosed' on methadone are from abuse (non-medical purposes, taking higher than your prescribed dose, etc.) or from mixing with other psychotropic substances. take responsibility for your actions guys..

If he died as an in-patient, is it not medical negligence? Most drugs can be dangerous if taken incorrectly. It is the problematic and chaotic behaviour of SOME addict's, that can result in a 'controlled substance', LIKE methadone, being administered in an uncontrolled way.
