@zvolencan77 A Doily is a decorative lacey piece of paper that is used in preparing food for decorative purposes and joke is that they both don't know what a doily is hahaha :D
What's the meaning of "doily" here? Can anyone explain it to me please? I'm Italian so I don't get the irony... (And the translation of this passage in the Italian version of W&G is absolutely not funny because of its English uniqueness)... Thank you!
@twofacedplanet The joke here is that "doily" is actually fancy table decoration made of lace. But because jack and karen are jack and karen, they've made it into an adverb (which sounds grammatically correct in English because of the "ly" at the end). :)
@twofaceplanet and not to mention that "doily" is one of the funniest sounding English words (to me at least)... especially when repeated four times slowly by these two!
I was flicking through TV stations one day. And this episode was on (I had never seen W&G before) This was the first scene of Will & Grace I ever saw. And I thought it was HILARIOUS. Everytime anyone says doily now I burst out laughing. Now I've seen every episode of W&G thanks to this scene alone. It's one of, if not THE greatest comedy shows ever. Will and Grace are incredible! And Jack and Karen are fucking legends! ;D
@saroyalete LOL doily is an embroidered piece of material that you put maybe a lamp or a vase ontop of on a table etc, but they're using it as a verb as if it's something you do lol and it doesn't make sense that's why it's so funny
jea?

@gingerkid419 Oh that is it! I thought that doily was actually ALSO a real adverb... Now I get it! Thank you.... =)
And by the way, even if you don't understand, the repetition of doily the way they say it is funny!
