This is a nice recording Ty. I revisited it after our conversation. You should post the mic used. Hey it sounds like you have a flanger going at 3:00 ! This is nice enough to merit a re-post at a higher bitrate. Try 8000kbps and the audio will get a nice bump as well as the video.
I just about have another one done. I was looking for a b part, but found a part that made the a part I have a b part. I'm working on the fusion now. Once I get them mated properly, I'll get back in front of the camera and cut 'em loose.
I thought it would prevent one from fretting the open string that the capo is obstructing, but I discovered that yo actually can fret it before or behind the capo.
I also found out that standard fingering can be applied.
But then again, you got something amazing out of it, and that's all that matters.
That's correct. The short-cut capo is like "instant altered tuning." I'm sure further variations can be made by changing tunings with the capo on, but I haven't gone there yet.
That's a D28S from around 1972. I bought it new in a hard shell case for $385. Even after all these years, when I sit down and play other guitars, I prefer the sound of that one. It is truly remarkable and I do realize that it is a "gift."
all i can say is im very jelous ! :), my dream guitar is Martin D28VS, the same as you have just with a V neck...cant beleive it was so cheap back then !
Hello can you say exactly what your audio chain was for this video? The sound is really great! Was your guitar plugged straight into a mixer or was this boom mic'd?
The best audio I've heard on youtube. I like it a lot with one comment. The piece, although executed with conviction, would stand on it's own more with a more varied harmonic structure. I understand it's more of a challenge with drop tunings, but right now it would be suited for use under a narration for video. Thanks for sharing!
Same video as before. It got dumped for no reason other than my clicking in the wrong place at some point. This also gave the the chance to upload a version that doesn't have the weird white mask for the first 5 seconds.
BTW, I really am planning a CD release. I'm writing songs, really I am, and this instrumental will be on the CD. A better recording, though.
Thanks for everyone's support. It's been very helpful and has meant a lot to me.
well, this is a nice and sweet peace of music. thanks

Yes, I applied a flanger for the C part and then pulled it back out. Just a little hooie to make the ears wiggle.

Hello, may I ask how and with what this was recorded?
Thanks.

Hello Dusky,
Shot with a Canon XL2 camera. Music mic, Schoeps cmc641. Voice mic, Countryman E6. Edited with Final Cut Pro.

Alright, thank you. That's some high-end stuff there!

Thanks Julie,
The partial capo does a lot of the heavy lifting. :)
TyFord 2 years ago
Oh my, that was beautifully played, seriously!
Is the short-cut capo practical? I just ordered one.
DuskY1991 2 years ago
Dusky,
It's like instant open tunings. Some restrictions apply, but you can see what I got out of it.

Rock on.

Dusky,
As you have found, the 6th string is still fair game. Try an Em formation above the capo on the 2nd fret and reach behind it for the 6th string.
Put the capo on the 4th fret and play a first position C starting at the 5th fret for yet another E.
TyFord 2 years ago
Thank you very much.
And then you can move it up even more, I guess.
The possibilities are endless.
DuskY1991 2 years ago
Well not endless, but if you have a 14 or more fret neck, you can go up two more frets and play a D formation to get your E.
You can also put the capo in the 2-3-4 strings, but I haven't found as much I like there.
TyFord 2 years ago
That's just in standard tuning, right?
You can also change the tuning and still use the cut capo in either of the two capo postitions.
Have you tried this too?

$385 was a lot of money back then. :) Cigarettes cost, um, less than a buck a pack, I think.

If you think that this video is great, add &fmt=18
at the end of the address to view it in the little better mp4 format, but..it can play stereo sound!
And man, in stereo - it sounds AWESOME!
high 5 :)
