I was also brought up eating meat. I think I was born vegetarian, because I objected what was on my plate throughout my childhood, until one day my parents told me I didn't have to eat it but they weren't going to make any special food for me. I lived in isolation and we received food shipments once a month, so no fresh veggies, frozen only, and potatoes and rice. I don't remember a happier time in my childhood, until after 1 month my parents made me eat meat again. :) Yes, I'm a vegan adult
We Buddhists MUST stop living in this hypocritical way, idly and callously participating in the outright slaughter of millions of beings, just to enjoy the tast of their dead flesh - it's abhorrent and must be stopped.
