  • I still have my 12" single from the 80s and will never abandon it. Formats come and go, vinyl sounds better and is pretty resilient.

  • I have an orignal LP from the 80's and refuse to spin the disk because I cannot find it on CD and do not want to risk damaging the platter. What is keeping Steven Coe from releasing this timeless work on CD?

  • @watchtrillions - It's been released on CD multiple times, although as far as I know most recently in 1995. I have both the early 90s release and the 1995 release, which included several extra tracks, 2 new songs, versions with vocals in Hindi and some remixes.

Amazon has it. Go buy it now, and stop depriving yourself! :-)

  • still got this 12" version, treasure it. Met Sheila recently, lovely person

  • When I bought this then, I accidently put it on the wrong speed on the record player, and thought, feck, I must have got some male singer version of the song.. But, once I noticed my error, I thought, actually, this way sounds good too.

  • Alway's lonely!

  • Absolutely TIMELESS! Not dated at all - Near 30 years old!

  • When I bought this single I played it once and LOVED it. Then I put it down, went into the kitchen to help my mam, went back into the living room to play it again and sat on it. My mam then secretly went to buy me it again only she accidentally got the 12". So many happy memories, Thank's for posting this. I have a lump in my throat and a song in my soul.

  • I remember having the 12' single version of this. Brilliant !

  • proper tune maaaaaaan!

  • siempre me arrepiento de haber vendido este maxi

  • I heard a lot of versions from this recording but this one is the best. I owned it but I lost it. Can anybody please help me to get it again?

  • I heard this song first time first in 1979-80 on Radio Australia and it was announced then that the song was one among many songs in an Album titled "Sunset over the Ganges" by Monsoon.

This song stayed on top of the charts of Radio Australia for a whole three weeks in 1979.

  • I remember Sheila from "Grange Hill" !!!!

  • Wow! I haven't heard this in a long time! Thanks for sharing!

  • I've look on the internet at the original album featuring this song, I think the album was called Featuring Shella Chandra, do you know how easy it is to buy the album on Compact Disc? Generally I still buy albums on CD because I like having a hard copy of my music, and I really like this song a lot.

  • @Lachlant1984 The original album that had this track was called Third Eye by Monsoon, it was remastered with extra tracks in 1995 and released on CD under the title 'Monsoon featuring Sheila Chandra'. It's still availalbe through Amazon and copies pop up on ebay from time to time if your looking for a bargain.

  • @RareEighties Actually I just bought the CD on CD Universe the other day, but because CD Universe are based in the US and I live in the land down under, (Australia), it could take a while for it to arrive. I take it the 1995 remaster is the first CD release of this album, that's the version I ordered. I can't wait for it to arrive.

  • @Lachlant1984 As far as I am aware, it is the only CD version of this album. I'm pretty sure 'Thrid Eye' was never released on CD,

  • @RareEighties - Nope, I discovered this wonderful album on CD in early 90s, so there was a CD release before the '95 one. However, I did by the '95 release because there were several additional tracks: a couple of new songs, some versions of "Third Eye" tracks with vocals in Hindi and a couple of remixes of "Ever So Lonely".

I first bought "Third Eye" on CD used about 20 years ago, but I first had to talk the shop owner into selling it to me. :-)

  • @Lachlant1984 I found it in the library in 1990 it was called Sheila Shandra Speaking in Tongues

  • fantastic

  • Don't you just love the internet. I loved this song in the eighties, had it on tape in my car and lost it. So happy I found it again. :D

  • One of the Best 'Pop' Records of ALL TIME - Excellent 12" Mix - AWESOME TUNE! ;-)

  • love this one, still in possession of 12" single in excellent condition!!!!!

  • my mom asked me 2 listen this song and i liked it. my sister thought it was boring.my mom used to play this song when she was little.

  • The girl who sings the lead vocals was in grange hill shortly befor the release of this song!.....wich is cool by the way!! i baught the record myself!!!

  • I used to have this 12" cover, plus Adrian Sherwood's mix, got both in Notting Hill exchange for 20p each. Really..!! kicking.. myself for getting rid of them now. Pity.. I had the original single too, still have I think, but the cover was torn a bit. I never took notice of Indian music, except for Ravi Shankar of course, but love Indian music, esp: with great radio stations like Sunrise & Asian Network. I love the sitar/drums & the female Indian voice. Sheila Chandra is the best of the BEST..!!

  • brilliant,,, I had this record as well.. all my vinyl got wrecked by builders , crushed wrong boxes into skipppp, gutted...great to hear it again,, thanks for posting :)

  • I first heard this at `The Warehouse` in Leeds and everybody was movin and a groovin to it.

    It`s timeless !

  • I have that same 12 " but I no idea it was rare! Got rid of so many from that time yet somehow could never part with it. I now live in India & hearing it again is perfect timing - thanks for posting it.

  • I'm not at all lonely after listening to this! Bring me home, Sheila! Love You!

  • Still sounds fresh to me. What a perfect timeless song and a deep sensual voice to die for. Brilliant

  • loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee

  • 2010Kingconor is just jealous and probably thinks combat18 is easy listening while he/she is out of their face on drugs. This music is masterful.

  • Fantastic, haven't heard the original for so long... Thank you RareEighties

  • ..........erm you for a start? lol

  • @2010Kingconor Who would listen to it? You would, obviously, or you wouldn't be posting about it.

Rare80's: THANK YOU. I haven't heard this in ages and wish, Wish, WISH I'd ever had anything besides a crappy radio tape that went kaput on me years ago.

  • Yes I used to own this 12 inch version, it's excellent to hear it again, thanks for the posting!

  • From 3' 12" to 5'04" it is just Indian Classical music playing in teental with Clem Alford's wonderful Sitar playing and Jhalib Millar's accompaniment on Tabla & Jaw harp Vocals & Chinese Gong with the Linn Drum Machine ! Classic

  • Can you post Indian Princess?

  • I lost this version in a fire and trying for years to replace it...By far the best. Thanks for posting it. The hunt continues

  • @PublicJoke - have you tried looking on ebay? There may be a copy on there

  • If you like, I could send you an MP3 of it.

  • Still wonderful - thanks for posting.
