Cleaning the neck is what you should do periodically to keep the skimmer performing correctly but cleaning correctly is important. This is a water clean, same as if you wiped the neck with a paper towel which you should do often.

Yes, when the cleaner runs the neck junk end up on the top of the foam which gets ejected into the collection cup. Running once per day doesn't result in much gunk (as you would have cleaning weekly). Skimmer output, I've found is about 30% better.
wow that's cool where did u get that cool gadget and can it work on my vortex -180 skimmer i could use one of them right now I'm tired of cleaning that part of the skimmer every4 to 6 day sometimes weekly
i got a few left over servos and rc controllers laying around here. and some wind shield wipers off a neighbors car and i think im set:)

In my experience, cleaning the neck of a skimmer decreases performance. It negates the so called "Break-in period"

@AQUARIUMHOBBY it falls into skimmer attaches it self to fine air bubbles
then comes up the neck then over it. plus doing that it helps the skimmer bubble
foam up more where as some times skimmers lose foam for a bit

The cleaner is from the same mfg of the skimmer; unless the skimmer dimentions are the same I'd guess that it would not work for another brand.

The cleaner turns on for 15 seconds, each day and has made tank maintenance very nice!
