To be fair, worf wasn`t really a klingon in the first few seasons. He lived amongst humans and was an idealistic wannabe when many of these so called contradictions happened. Worf only begun to understood the klingon way during the end of ds9.
Worf was one of the best characters on television in decades. I was so glad that they kept him around after TNG ended through the movies and DS9. As for TheRhinehart86's comments, I don't think DS9 ruined Worf. If anything, the writers were just trying to explore different aspects of Worf. Ya gotta admit, DS9 is NOT the Enterprise. haha
This is all about the development and the conflict of Worf's Klingonhood and his Humanity. He is in constant conflict, and as he develops he changes his views. TNG had such amazing character developement (mostly Data and Picard though).
Apparently Worf isn't full of it anymore - did someone complain or YT intervene/give an order? Or did you decide to be nice to Worf and not totally call him out?
Worf isn't your typical Klingon. He was raised from age 5, by humans, on Earth and/or a human farming colony. All he knew about Klingons was what he remembered as a small child and all the second-hand info his parents gave him as he grew up.
He idolized this legendary culture that he was not apart of, to the point of putting them on a glorious pedestal that does not in fact exist. His learning of *real* Klingon culture occurred mostly on the show, so we should forgive the occassional mistake.
@TimThomason that's the best explanation. it also seemed like Worf had no sense of humour while other Klingons did. Worf was basically an outsider of both human and Klingon cultures, same as Spock in the original series.
it seems like his time on the Enterprise opened him up a bit, he developed a sense of humour and he became more like humans and other klingons.
in ds9 they explained he was so strict and stiff because as a kid he accidently killed a child and decided he must practice control
TNG typically used the Klingons as a comedic device to play up how disgusting and brutish they were, DS9 fleshed out the Klingons and made them pretty cool but it turned Worf from a silent bad ass into an emotional, incompetent, anti-social tool who kept whining about Dax, Klingon tadition and his honour while surrendering at every opportunity and basically ruined the character, the one thing I didnt like about DS9.
@TheRhinehart86 You make a good point, but perhaps the evolution of Worf was meant to make the character less bruitish and more 'human'. He was older and as you get older you do soften up a little bit.
@TheRhinehart86 Something to keep in mind is that on TNG, Worf used to get his ass handed to him in combat on a regular basis, but in DS9 he became a much better fighter. One episode had him kill or beat the crap out of half a dozen Jem'hadar all by himself despite being injured. I think the general made a video about that actually...
@frankgarrey DS9 was more realistic in general and not as cheesy as TNG. they turned the characters into more realistic people and not one dimensional like in TNG.
Picard and Data are the only characters that will rival (prepare to line me up to be shot) and be BETTER than Kirk and Spock. The chemistry between Picard and Data was incredible... it says alot about the respect the actors had for eachother as well.
@TheRhinehart86 Well technically TNG only started by doing that, but got a lot better on later seasons. DS9 was pretty much just the logical continuation of their development.
The relationship between Troi and Worf was the most contrived and ill advised thing on Star Trek: TNG but the marriage between Worf and Jadzia Dax (not that poser Ezri) was perfect.

@denial987 It's still not as lame as the "relationship" between Seven of Nine and Chakotay on Voyager. What a waste of screen time.

@denial987 you watched TNG and DS9 and all you could care about is Worfs relationships?
I got news for you:
Star Trek is not all about relationships and romance.
