  • It's fascinating..the human complusion to compare. I love Radiohead & just got turned on to Wilco ( going to their concert day after tomorrow:-). Love this song...all great. Peace.

  • Искусство - наивысшая действительность, жизнь - одно из проявлений искусства. Лучше отдавать красоте и милосердию, чем накапливать будущие страдания.

  • this should've been on the soundtrack of the art of getting by. lot of art going on

  • Wilco: The Album was a great record, but but many critics (not entirely unfounded) complaints centered around the fact that it contained no surprises, aside from Bull Black Nova. This changed entirely with The Whole Love, which opened with this song, which is probably there most unique and daring song in nearly a decade.

  • @SilverFeet oh, god, I've committed the worst crime one could commit on the internet: I used the wrong spelling of "their".

    *sepuku*

  • @SilverFeet *seppeku

  • One of the most fantastic examples of Jeffs wonderful sexy and iconic voice

  • Perfect... ;)

  • a song that must be played at full volume.

  • reminds me of radiohead

  • This is art!

  • Best record of 2011

  • Great Zappa-like guitar solo starting around 6:00 !!

  • sounds like CAN

  • I am a long time wilco fan but never expected to LOVE this album and especially this track as much as I do!

  • kid a,ok computer...RH cant hold a match to wilco...know i'll be endlessly flamed for speaking the truth...no worries, Merry Christmas. A Chicagoan with big shoulders.

  • god, this is such a great song.

  • some of the electronic sounds would fit in on kid a/amnesia perhaps. However the vocals are very different and for me better. Tweedy does not yelp gibberish over the backing music.

from 4.30 sounding like radiohead nikita, nah surely the other way around. the last 2 and a half minutes are like LA woman with an absolutely incredible guitar solo thrown on top of it

either way its a cracking track.

  • wwwgreatbuyoutletscom wwwtopfuelsavercom He closed up like a flower in the chill of night-fall. He was notgoing to put himself under obligations to anybody. He would keep hissense of personal independence, even if it entailed the sacrifice of alife's ambition. Owe no man anything! The words rang in his ears. Theywere his father's words. Owe no man anything! They were thatgentleman's definition of a gentleman--a definition which was cordiallyapproved by every other gentleman

  • i can't stop listening to this (saw wilco live last saturday, this track was phenomenal live)

  • Love Wilco. Not a fan of this song. Kinda mediocre.

  • Damn great song.........

  • One of the best songs of 2011!

  • that was cool.

  • The whole album was great and i loved this song....no yadda yadda here :)

  • @rckslydvarz I know what you mean. the vocal element is so bare and stripped, it could really use some dubbing and a little help from the studio like in the 70's. (Pink Floyd, John Lennon). IM NOT talking about that godawful autotone crap used today. It would fill out the sound better. The riffs could have been made more prominent and choppy to be catchier, but this is an excellent and refreshing sound for modern day. Hopefully more music will sound like this

  • @rckslydvarz better than yours ahahaha!! haha just kiddin ah i need a life

  • I have to admit I didn't enjoy Sky Blue Sky or Wilco too much, but this seems like a return to form that I thought may never happen. Fair play, some bands go like Interpol and get really frustrated that they can't recreate their old brillance. Wilco don't. They go out and create a completely new brillance. Bravo!

  • So good, it just blows my mind!

  • I Am Trying to Break Your Heart?

  • To everyone saying that the rest of the album doesn't compare to this song, why aren't the rest like this, yadda yadda, please go start a band and attempt to make one song remotely close to as good as any song on this album, much less this one.

  • Not your usual Wilco, that's for sure!

And not their biggest fan, but loving this change of gears, so here's hoping for a few more like this down the line.

  • When I bought this off iTunes and first heard that opening crackle, I swore the file had downloaded corrupt. Thanks for posting this and putting my fears to rest. Great song.

  • Man, I bought the album due to this song...but the rest of the album doesn't compare to this song, which is probably why they put this song first.

  • WILCO DONE DID IT AGAIN !

  • Hey! i'm here to say this song is really fucking great! also all of my opinions are profound and i know everything about music. yay this song!

  • Remarkable, Shivers down my spine.

  • i have no problem with this, Radio head, pink Floyd , etc... now you can all buy something else if you will. these is not main stream; but how main stream do you want it ?

  • I don't think it is derivitative, they put their own spin on it, but thre is definately some similarity between the bands, and especially on this song. I love this song, but their is some Radiohead lurking in it, no doubt.

  • this sounds like stuff i used to hear on a college radio station in the 90's. they got big doing old stuff that wasn't "cool" yet, i guess. then againm you always have those people who only like stuff because nobody else does.....bit this is like stuff i've heard before (nearly a decase ago). as for the guitar scream part...so f'ing what?..every guitar shredder can do that (including myself) with the right technique and/or effects...yeah for his guitar screaming *heavy sarcasm*

  • @2010cynic as for my guitar screaming comment, i was refering to how another person had said it. it's called a guitar solo not making a guitar scream....and it's sloppy (i'm thinking maybe that's part of the sound he was going for). anyway, this song is still cooler than some of the crap in this genre though

  • amazing song. I go to hear this live and it was phenomenal.

  • I don't think the Radiohead comparison is outlandish.... However this is still WILCO and it is BADASS...Unbelievable!!

  • So damn good, it's almost insane.

  • damn good song . I love it

  • Fucking awesome album opener! Radiohead comparisons a load of bollocks sounds nothing like them.

  • I love this song until the 4.30 minute, after that i dont like it.....too much of aradiohead influence but that something i dont mind!!!

  • @nikita888

are you fuckin retarded? have you EVER heard greenwood scream his guitar as hard as nels cline? dont get me wrong, radiohead is glorious, supreme music, but comparing that last part of this sogn to radiohead is asinine

  • @GUDEMONSTER - I don't get how the radiohead comparison is asinine, or a load of bollocks, as another put it. Just because you like one thing better than another, or think it's more impressive, doesn't mean there aren't similarities. You have to admit it sounded a bit like radiohead before the solo started, at least the radiohead of several albums ago.

  • I've heard worse. The new album's no Yankee Hotel Foxtrot though.

  • timeless...this is it..one of the best bands ever to played..every album is inspiring..many good wishes from Croatia...keep the vibe...

    peace

  • fuck radiohead, this is wilco. from uncle tupelo to now, i will never leave you jeff tweedy.

  • woooah what just happened

amazing song, sounds like some weird kid A + hail to the thief + age of adz from sufjan stevens

  • this WOULD be out of place on kid A. maybe not on hail to the thief though

  • Its alright. Could have been more elaborate, and I feel it only scratches the surface.

  • THIS song, crazy awesomeness happening here.

  • Wow, I listened to YFH and it wasn't really my thing. But this is pretty good. Awesome Kid A/Massive Attack vibes here.

I might have to download this album.

  • best (The) album ever!

  • sick song, insane band, bad-ass solo

  • oh that ending is killer....turn it UP !!!!

louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...HELL YEAH GIVE IT TO ME !!!

  • 1 person went deaf listening to this it was so good

  • Saw them last night in Raleigh and they opened with this. It was absolutely breathtaking. Thanks, Wilco!

  • holy fuck wilco is definitely back to their old selves. I really liked Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (The Album) but I felt they played it a little too safe, especially after Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born. I'm glad to see they are taking some chances again and trying to be more experimental again. This is a fucking dope-ass avant-rock song. welcome back guys.

  • fuck me sideways, this is a strong contender for song of the year for me. the beginning's got this sexy Massive Attack-like groove and then WAH-BAM those guitars at the end hit me and make me smile in places i never knew i had and now i look like a giraffe with my stretched out neck from all the headbanging that ensued

  • I know that this is a great Wilco song, but this would not be out of place on Kid A.

  • @aperturius Yes it would...

  • @aperturius kid a is a radiohead album not a wilco album

  • @sirloine123 i think that was his point.

  • @sirloine123 I think he knows that; adding this to Kid A would obviously not make it Kid A anymore. Wishful thinking though.

  • @sirloine123 that's what he's saying. This song sounds heavily Radiohead-influenced.

  • what a song.... and the final part... yess!

  • Yet again, Wilco refuse to stagnate...... this is quite amazing.

  • Nelsssss!!!!!!!!!

  • THE ENDING GIVES ME GOOSEBUMPS AND A BONER!

  • @peterbenchleyJAWS It does kick a little ass doesn't it.

  • @peterbenchleyJAWS Gooseboner.

  • fucking amazing song
