It's fascinating..the human complusion to compare. I love Radiohead & just got turned on to Wilco ( going to their concert day after tomorrow:-). Love this song...all great. Peace.
Wilco: The Album was a great record, but but many critics (not entirely unfounded) complaints centered around the fact that it contained no surprises, aside from Bull Black Nova. This changed entirely with The Whole Love, which opened with this song, which is probably there most unique and daring song in nearly a decade.
kid a,ok computer...RH cant hold a match to wilco...know i'll be endlessly flamed for speaking the truth...no worries, Merry Christmas. A Chicagoan with big shoulders.
@fishtabmike Lame comment. Music is subjective; you can't compare bands like Radiohead and Wilco because people have different preferences when it comes to music. However, I think most people will agree that they are both two of the most talented bands today. Also, how is the size of shoulders relevant at all? You just disgraced Chicago with your two cents.
some of the electronic sounds would fit in on kid a/amnesia perhaps. However the vocals are very different and for me better. Tweedy does not yelp gibberish over the backing music.
from 4.30 sounding like radiohead nikita, nah surely the other way around. the last 2 and a half minutes are like LA woman with an absolutely incredible guitar solo thrown on top of it
wwwgreatbuyoutletscom wwwtopfuelsavercom He closed up like a flower in the chill of night-fall. He was notgoing to put himself under obligations to anybody. He would keep hissense of personal independence, even if it entailed the sacrifice of alife's ambition. Owe no man anything! The words rang in his ears. Theywere his father's words. Owe no man anything! They were thatgentleman's definition of a gentleman--a definition which was cordiallyapproved by every other gentleman
@rckslydvarz I know what you mean. the vocal element is so bare and stripped, it could really use some dubbing and a little help from the studio like in the 70's. (Pink Floyd, John Lennon). IM NOT talking about that godawful autotone crap used today. It would fill out the sound better. The riffs could have been made more prominent and choppy to be catchier, but this is an excellent and refreshing sound for modern day. Hopefully more music will sound like this
I have to admit I didn't enjoy Sky Blue Sky or Wilco too much, but this seems like a return to form that I thought may never happen. Fair play, some bands go like Interpol and get really frustrated that they can't recreate their old brillance. Wilco don't. They go out and create a completely new brillance. Bravo!
To everyone saying that the rest of the album doesn't compare to this song, why aren't the rest like this, yadda yadda, please go start a band and attempt to make one song remotely close to as good as any song on this album, much less this one.
When I bought this off iTunes and first heard that opening crackle, I swore the file had downloaded corrupt. Thanks for posting this and putting my fears to rest. Great song.
i have no problem with this, Radio head, pink Floyd , etc... now you can all buy something else if you will. these is not main stream; but how main stream do you want it ?
I don't think it is derivitative, they put their own spin on it, but thre is definately some similarity between the bands, and especially on this song. I love this song, but their is some Radiohead lurking in it, no doubt.
this sounds like stuff i used to hear on a college radio station in the 90's. they got big doing old stuff that wasn't "cool" yet, i guess. then againm you always have those people who only like stuff because nobody else does.....bit this is like stuff i've heard before (nearly a decase ago). as for the guitar scream part...so f'ing what?..every guitar shredder can do that (including myself) with the right technique and/or effects...yeah for his guitar screaming *heavy sarcasm*
@2010cynic as for my guitar screaming comment, i was refering to how another person had said it. it's called a guitar solo not making a guitar scream....and it's sloppy (i'm thinking maybe that's part of the sound he was going for). anyway, this song is still cooler than some of the crap in this genre though
are you fuckin retarded? have you EVER heard greenwood scream his guitar as hard as nels cline? dont get me wrong, radiohead is glorious, supreme music, but comparing that last part of this sogn to radiohead is asinine
@GUDEMONSTER - I don't get how the radiohead comparison is asinine, or a load of bollocks, as another put it. Just because you like one thing better than another, or think it's more impressive, doesn't mean there aren't similarities. You have to admit it sounded a bit like radiohead before the solo started, at least the radiohead of several albums ago.
louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...louder...faster...HELL YEAH GIVE IT TO ME !!!
holy fuck wilco is definitely back to their old selves. I really liked Sky Blue Sky and Wilco (The Album) but I felt they played it a little too safe, especially after Foxtrot and A Ghost is Born. I'm glad to see they are taking some chances again and trying to be more experimental again. This is a fucking dope-ass avant-rock song. welcome back guys.
fuck me sideways, this is a strong contender for song of the year for me. the beginning's got this sexy Massive Attack-like groove and then WAH-BAM those guitars at the end hit me and make me smile in places i never knew i had and now i look like a giraffe with my stretched out neck from all the headbanging that ensued
It's fascinating..the human complusion to compare. I love Radiohead & just got turned on to Wilco ( going to their concert day after tomorrow:-). Love this song...all great. Peace.
