The other stewardess started taking pictures of a plane going to take off. Each one was zoomed in a little more until you could see the faces in the other plane looking back at them..The plane was the ill fated Air Florida Flight 90 heading for the Potomac River..
My sister started flying with Piedmont in 1978 ish..she is still with US Air..
Piedmont didn't have any fatalities , She told me they wre ready to take off from National airport one winter day..The pilot came on and said they were going back to get de-iced..The other flight attendant had this new camera..one that you could automatically zoom out or in.. It happened to be January 13, 1982,.. to be continued..
Piedmont was a class airline. You should be proud of your father and the excellent product he helped deliver to thousands of travelers! And I'm sure he's proud of you for recognizing what air travel should be all about.
I flew on Piedmont several times in and out of Greensboro(Friendship) NC. A very good airline in all aspects. They had flights in and out of very small markets. They actually had a flight at one one many time years ago between Winston-Salem(their headquarters) and Greensboro, only about 31 miles and to Danville, Va, only about 42 miles.
As a ex PI pilot I appreciate you putting the video together, Piedmont was a great organization where each and every employee.s contributions were truly appreciated. I don;t think there will ever be anything like it again.
are you talking about the LAX Accident ? Cause people did get off that, however we lost a great flight attendant who stayed on to help get passengers out of the over wing exits even with the plane on fire.
I sure do miss seeing those planes. My father flew for Piedmont Airlines for 36 years. Retired 1 year before Mr. Davis sold the airline to US Air. Many childhood memories aboard those planes. Thanks for the video. Brought back some good memories.

To the stupid skank usaskygirl....don't you see a theme here??? NOBODY likes USAir...NOBODY!!!! The Piedmont's, America Wests and PSAs of the business had an extreme loyal following..u just dont get it!!! I would expect that from a typical USless air skank!!!
Flew Piedmont a couple of times and both times the service was friend and efficient. It is truly unfortunate that they became part of USAir. I am sure the former of employees of Piedmont must cringe when they think back on that unfortunate day.
UsAir has always sucked. They destroyed Piedmont And PSA. And to the lady who bad-mouthed Tempe, asa former America West employee, it is not Tempe. We had a great airline until our management took on the basket case known as USAir
If Im not mistaken, I dont think they ever had a fatality in their 49 year history. I love you Piedmont, I wish you were around today to take my fears away. Thank you for the video!!
Well, the only one I remember was Piedmont Airlines Flight 22 (727) that collided with a twin engined Cessna. And all people on board the 2 planes were killed.
But I don't think it was Piedmont's nor the Cessna's fault. Probably ATC was the culprit.
But yes, Piedmont was a very trustworthy airline to step aboard on.
@biorgymd Early on there was also a DC-3 crash into a mountain that killed everyone except one person; that and the Asheville NC collision were the only two fatalities in Piedmont's entire history!
@biorgymd There was the famous 727 crash near Asheville NC after a mid-air collision with a Cessa 310. I remember one DC-3 crash and one F-27 as well.
I fly a lot for work, several thousand miles a year; Im a very nervous and white knuckle flyer, looking at this video reminds me of how safe and comfortable I felt on Piedmont. It was amazing of the love that enveloped this company, their employees were paragons, and they really did care.
Wow, what wonderful memories!!! Piedmont was without a doubt the best and most incredible airline ever. It was very sad when USAir took over, it should have been the other way around. Im just a passenger, have never worked in the airline industry.
Its unheard of today how passengers are treated as compared to Piedmont. They truly were the inventors of "the customer is always right" Now, within reason of course but Piedmont definitely went out of their way to make a bad situation right. Today, there is probably a fee for that!!!
I remember watching their planes land at Newark back in the day. I never have flown with them, but wish I had before the US Airways take over. Well, I fly online with VATSIM and downloaded one of their 737-200's. Might fly their old routes and different cities like Atlantic City and Louisville. I would be proud to do that for a wonderful airline that cared more about their passengers than the current ones that do today.
Piedmont was beyond a wonderful airline. USAir ruined what could have been the best airline in the country. USAskygirl, where on earth do you get that US was a great airline? People flew it because they had to get from point a to point b. People flew Piedmont because they wanted to. There has never been such a loyal following to an airline even today. Yes, s**t happens, and it happened 8/15/89. I would have worked for free if they needed it. How many companies today would u hear that? 0
Thank you for the thoughtful video. I would have left out the transitional-era pictures as they only serve to remind one of the end of a great airline and the beginning of an obnoxious company that still exists. USAir had NO chance as long as PIEDMONT was still around and growing. They gambled the franchise and lost bigtime. They were OK as Allegheny, but the story ends there. Folks still speak glowingly of PIEDMONT. Mention USair and everyone winces. What a waste.
I'll bite you anytime you want, and I do have a life, a rather nice life since I quit the airline industry in 2002. I also believe that USAir had a good operation prior to the merger. I remember those vp's coming to meet with us and telling us they really liked the Piedmont did things..........but now you are going to do it our way. USelessAir continues to be on the bottom of all customer service rankings these days and it's just amazing that they are still in business.
It makes me so happy and yet breaks my heart to watch this video. My husband flew for Piedmont and I have NEVER seen a better operation since. What a shame the days of caring for the customer and the employees are over. I would like to comment on USAir but the wording would not be polite. Tempe, you suck and USAPA you hsve your heads stuck up your ass.
My husband has flown each aircraft shown in this video at
some point in his 29 year career with Piedmont/US Airways.
That adds up to 27,000 hours of flight time! They fly an average
of 90 to 95 hours flight time per month...but to get that amount of
flight time you have to spend an average of 100 hours a week away
from home! That is a 400 hour a month job! Makes a 40 hour week
sound pretty good huh! Have you thanked a pilot today!
