I think he has a beautiful voice. I do think that the director caused him to sing a little too "sorrowfully". He sounds almost as if he is crying through most of the song. I would prefer some wistfullness and pain, considering the subject.

The costuming does not bother me at all. How many real people actually walk around dressed like the people dress in Operas? If anything... his costuming makes him seem more real and possible... if perhaps less dramatic.

The makeup though.. ugh.....

I regret that I haven't seen Łukasz as Von Krolock (but I'm listening Tantz der Vampire OST, and I have OST CD :D), but I saw him is polish version of Les Miserables- I heartily recommend it! :)

my all time favourite is (as you said) steve... but Lukasz got a great voice too i think its the best krolock voice after steve... so now that steve is dead he´s the best krolock alive :-)

Yes! I agree!! This is the best Count von Krolock. Vampires (in my opinion) should be dark and evil creatures that are also beautiful and mysterious. This Count is HOT and his voice is amazing. He could bite my neck anytime.

Although he's a good singer, i don't like him. IMO there are far better Krolocks, and i dont like his outer appearance, he doesnt look like a real Krolock to me

I appreciate your opinion, of course. Everyone has their favourite actor to play this part. But don't you think that judging a singer by their appearance is the shallowest thing you can do? Łukasz has a rich, ringing, dark voice that suits the part perfectly; his acting is superb. I think he is far superior to, for example, Kevin Tarte, and I prefer him to Thomas Borchert. I understand that you're used to German costumes, but this alone doesn't make one Krolock better than another :)

I don't think it's wrong to judge a musical actor (!) also by his looks. It's the overall appearance that counts, not only the singig part (check recordings of Alexander Klaws as Alfred (Berlin) to see my point ;) ).

As for my oppinion of Łukasz, he's a little too classical for me. Don't mistake me here, he sure has the necessary strength and dark timbre in his voice, however I personally simply am no great fan of such a strong vibrato.

But one thing I noticed is that I like the translation a lot. Fluent in three languages (don't mean to boast) I know what a bad translation can destroy, and also how tough it is to come up with a good one. And this one does the (original) German libretto justice. I trust Polanski was stongly involved in it?

Not neccessarily, actually... he did not even do the directing. He was just an "artistic patron" of the production, meaning that he chose the cast and supervised the whole thing. He also helped a bit with the rekearsals and gave some tips, but the translation was made entirely by Daniel Wyszogrodzki. And I agree with you, it really is very good :) As for Łukasz, it all depends on taste, I think. I personally don't like Klaws too much, and I adore this operatic quality of Łukasz's baritone :)

Sure, you're right, and i dont judge him only by his outer appearance. As it's not a complete video, i can't say anything 'bout his acting. And of course he has a good voice, but it doesn't fit to the part for me. I've seen 4 different Krolocks so far, and I liked them all better (Felix Martin, Aleksander DiCapri, Kevin Tarte and Jack Rebaldi). And also MY Krolock will always be Steve Barton.

Um... the costume was certainly not *cheap*, the cloak alone costs more or less the same as an expensieve car :) It's just different. Though I agree that Polish production had a smaller budget and the sets and costumes were not as lofty as in Germany, I still like our version better. I'm glad you liked Łukasz!
