jessica this may sound really silly but how do i revise on bbc bitesize im on the website now but its really confusing please help me im not very good at revising:/
Scottish exams are like the same as english :L Just with different names haha.
Standard Grades are the equivalent to GCSEs you study them throughout your 3-4th years of High School which are the english years 9 and 10. Then it is optional to leave, because university is free for Scottish people, most people stay on for another 2 year 5th and 6th years. In these years you sit your Highers 5th Year which is like A levels, and Advanced Highers(6th Year) Which is the level just below university.
@BubbleMega96-I think it's got something to do with your confidence level ? Afraid of getting the answer wrong? Or maybe not sure bout the method ur using?
I know it's not very PC, but i remember Haemoglobin by 'homo goblin' and then I just think of like a little bright pink elf thing dancing around in my blood.
Ok. Whenever I'm in doing either maths homework or a test, I look at a question and I don't know what to do. But when I go over the question with parents for example, I immediately know what to do. Does anyone know why???
I was reading out a chapter in science, and I read haemoglobin as haemogoblin everyone laughed and we made it a joke.. so now we all remember haemoglobin as haemogoblin. it's a little joke we all have now :)
@CARRIELICIOUS Like practice papers which you can get in places like WHSmith and waterstones :] They're normally written by examiners, so they will be a taster of your future exams. :] Good for practicing timing as well!
in england your exams are called GSCEs where as in Scotland they are called standard grades, there are 8 standard grades and you sit them when you are the ages of 14-15. Then after those final standard grade exams are over you pick 5 higers your around the age of 16-17. Once those exams are over you can then go on to do advanved highers, then leave you can also leave school after your standard grades are over. we also have prelims which are practice exams before the real ones! hope this helped!
this is really useful!! me and a few friends at sixth form have an alternative way of organising your time..we are developing an APP which will help with revision/organisation..if you want to find out more then like our page on facebook by typing in 'click enterprise'...i can guarantee that it will be a massive help! thanks guys!

I always make up little songs to remember things for exams :P I once made up an unbelievably catchy song for a science exam about characteristics of living things. I still remember the song to this day :)
i'm scottish! we start primary school at the age of 5 and go all the way to primary seven so you leave about 12/13. then you go to secondary school where you conitinue similar work to primary up untill youve finished you're second year. for your third and fourth year you pick 8 subjects and sit exams (standard grade) at the end of 4th year, you will now be about 16/17. you can either leave school or do 5th + 6th year + do 5 subjects and do exams at the end(highers). after that you can go to uni

@1rhistar1 That's not what we do in our school at all. Still in scotland, we do standard grades over 3rd and 4th year, with prelims each year. And highers are above GCSE level, our GCSE equivalent is standard grades or intermediates. In 6th year, you can do highers or advanced highers.
i just made a revision tips video and was looking for more, love your tips on highlighting things you don't really know in different colours! i always skip past tricky things. i'm going to link your video in my blog post, and also yay for red hair, yours is beautiful! i've never found another redhead on youtube xx
@RossMcBeath95 At my school, everyone sits general and then you either sit foundation or credit along side it. So we at the very least have something to fall back on. You also get int1s and int2s.
@TheLadyBirdsPicnic Yeh it probably is but it seems easy to me cos i have grown up with it... But some schools in Scotland do English system as well:)
In scotland we basically have, Standard Grade/ Int 2 for S3-4 (14-16), Then Higher for S5 16-17, Then Advanced higher for S6 (17-18). And that is what we do in Scotland, also within each exam there are more levels, Foundation, General & Credit.
@SloneSmith1 the english system seems soooo much more straight forward than the standard grade. I moved from an IB system to a standard grade system and it literally took me until like beginning of s4 to get my head around it :L
Scottish do standard grades ad there are three levels to them there's credit which is the highest marks you can get..if you get 50% + gets you a 2 and 75%+ gets you a 1 which is like THE HIGHEST GRADE then there's general, the middle level which is a 4 (50%+) or a three (75%+) then foundation which is a 7 and a 6 (same applies as general and credit) we do prelims (practice exams in exam conditions with study leave etc) and if you are at credit level you still have to do the general so you have
i live in scotland but im at an english school :) but . the scottish gcse exams are called standard grades and the a level equivilets are called Highers :) hope that was helpful .. it think they are equally hard :P
thanks for the tips :) got my gcses next year so .. yeah :) taa :P
Im in scotland doing my last year of highschool which is more highers and advanced highers (The highest grades you can get at highschool) BBC bitesized applies to us I love it! So yeah :D
in scotland basically once you're in 4th year (so like 15/16 years old) the exams get important, and you have prelims (practise exams) in january and then your standard grades or intermediate 2's depending on the subject in may. and then in 5th year (so liiiike 16/17 years old) you do prelims in january again, but in may you do your highers, which are uber important and decide on unis n stuff :/ im studying for my highers and its honestly impossible to be more stressed :L xoxo
In Scotland our Higher exams are the equivalent to your A levels. Dont know bout the rest, you dont understand scottish ones and i dont think we really understand yours either :P Anywho, very helpful video :) thaaaaanks :D xxx
i just have a question, do you think it is easier to revise one subject a day or would it be easier to divide your time and revise like 3 different subjects in a day?
i actually cant tell you how much this helped me! thank you sooo much for making this video...i have to admit i'm pretty crap when it comes to revision but after watching this you've inspired me to revise in helpful, different ways (if that makes sense?) thankyou :)
omg i make up songs ad stupid things to remember stuff aswell:L
for my english exam we had to remember LOADS od stuff and one thing was something like..audience, and the answer was about the victorians or something..and the victorian times was 'AGES' ago..and audience begins with 'A' like 'ago ago'..aahahaaL
Scottish exams are really confusing. You get Standard Grades which you take when you're 15, Highers when you're 16 and either more Highers or Advanced Highers when you're 17. Highers and Advanced Highers are what counts to get into University. Advanced Highers are kind of the same as A levels I think? Standard Grades are like GCSE's.
@MorganRae18 yea i would agree with that... we have 8 standard grades... 5 highers or more and 3 advanced highers or less :S loll i get confused with english exams tbh loool oh and we also have ints lets not get into that ahaha
really desesperated at this point! like i don't even have my date for prom!
if you could help me with a makeup tutorial or the hair tutorial i would really appreciate it! i'm sorry if my english is not to good 'cause like i said i'm from Chile :) maybe i can write this in spanish! well that was all! please please help me :)!!!!
I wanted to request a look because my "Prom" is in 3 weeksssssss! (i'm from Chile, here is almost summer and i finished school, that's why Prom is in December) so the thing is that i have the look from a picture i found of Taylor Swift in the red carpet of the BBC Award 2010 but i dont know what eyeshadow should i use, should i wear false lashes? and the haaair! the hair is amazing but i have no idea how can i make it look like that and i'm like
you start secondry when your 11-12 and at the middle of your second year you chose you subjects and in 4th year (15-16) you take your standered grade (in credit, general or foundation depending on your level) and if you do well you can take you highers in 5th year and 6th year
all the papers are marked my numbers 1-7 1 being best 7 being fail geditt?
I'm always on the AQA website looking at past papers! I love them; they're so helpful. It's really useful to look at the mark scheme and see what the examiners look for
BBC Bitesize is a life saver! Ahh, I'm doing AQA triple award, so i have my Unit 2 exams in January :(, terrifying! Are you planning on doing A levels?
when we go into secondary school in scotland, in third and fouth year, we study for our standard grades and intermediates. when we are in 5th and 6th years, we study highers which are the equivalent to a levels i think
@wetakefunseriously It depends on the exam, I never revise more than 3 weeks before an exam apart from when it's the Christmas holidays when I revise a bit before the holidays, then I don't revise whilst it's Christmas Eve, Christmas, Boxing day, New Years Eve and New Years Day etc and then I pick it up again after (:
heyaa, so i posted there, but i kept posting stuff by mistake so i'm going to start over :)
i find english exams and stuff confusing too, haha.
So at the end of 2nd year we pick our 8 subjects (i think it can sometimes be more) that we want to do in 3rd year for our exams. In 3rd year we do Intermediates, which i think are supposed to be harder than GCSE's? and you either do Int 2's (if your a bit smarter and learn quicker) Or Int 1's. Then in 5th Year you do 5 Highers and in 6th year you do...
In Scotland basically in our 3rd year we choose the subjects for our first exams which last two years they are either intermediates or standard grade which are both the equivalent to GCSE then higher in our 5th year, which would be like a bridge between GCSE and A-level, then in sixth year we do the equivalent to a-level it's called advanced higher. Wow that is quite complex
i'm from scotland :L we have 'standard grades' like gcse's, in 4th year, that you do at different levels, like credit is the smartest and general is the middle and foundation is the not so clever. then we do highers, like a-levels in 5th year and then we can do advaced highers in 6th year. there's also intermediates, but that's just some subjects like physics and chemistry in 4th year, but you can do them in 5th year if you don't get credit standard grades then do highers in 6th year, confusing
im doing my alevels now. and ive found it better that when you do past papers, if your teacher goes through the paper with the mark scheme while you look at what you wrote for the answer, you begin to realise exactly what the examiner wants because sometimes you have to be so specific you realise how unfair they really are.
Writting things down helps me alot. Just writting it over a million times helps me! But i also do everything you do! Oh it also helps to have someone question you. My boyfriend usually questions me sometimes, he asks questions and the act of explaining it to him helps me remember better.
this is so weird, i just started getting tutored for science today, and im trying to figure out my revision teqnique that works for me, im in year 11, so thanks :D this really helped
I always have to say my notes out loud aswell, it really does help! Also, explaining what I've revised to someone who'll listen (or, even though it sounds strange, pretending there is someone there to explain it to) helps me loads too! Great video as usual :)
i am scottish:) you do standerd grades which are like GCSE's, then as o levels we do highers and a levels are advanced highers, its al basically the same really just diffrent names to confuse people, and our exmas are are placed close together and i think yours are spaced out, also we have prelims (instead of mock exams) and they are right now for me so this was really helpful thank you! xx
right....i might actually do some revision now. after watching like 5 revision videos :D

Scottish exams: we have standard grades in 3rd and 4th year at high school, and you are graded from 1-7, 1 being the best, 7 being fail
1-2 credit
3-4 general
5-6 foundation
7 FAIL
if u sit foundation the best u can get is a 5
if u sit a general exam the best u can get is a 3
if u sit a credit exam the best u a can get is a 1 and if u are 1 mark away from a two .... FAIL
5th and 6th year u do highers and advanced higher were u are grades A.BC.D.E.F
ABC being a pass

Scottish exams are really confusing. You get Standard Grades which you take when you're 15, Highers when you're 16 and either more Highers or Advanced Highers when you're 17. Highers and Advanced Highers are what counts to get into University. Advanced Highers are kind of the same as A levels I think? Standard Grades are like GCSE's.
MorganRae18 1 year ago
@MorganRae18 yea i would agree with that... we have 8 standard grades... 5 highers or more and 3 advanced highers or less :S loll i get confused with english exams tbh loool oh and we also have ints lets not get into that ahaha

you start secondry when your 11-12 and at the middle of your second year you chose you subjects and in 4th year (15-16) you take your standered grade (in credit, general or foundation depending on your level) and if you do well you can take you highers in 5th year and 6th year
all the papers are marked my numbers 1-7 1 being best 7 being fail geditt?

I'm always on the AQA website looking at past papers! I love them; they're so helpful. It's really useful to look at the mark scheme and see what the examiners look for

when we go into secondary school in scotland, in third and fouth year, we study for our standard grades and intermediates. when we are in 5th and 6th years, we study highers which are the equivalent to a levels i think

if you have a GCSE coming up, when do you start revising??? like how long before, 1 month eect ect...
wetakefunseriously 1 year ago
@wetakefunseriously It depends on the exam, I never revise more than 3 weeks before an exam apart from when it's the Christmas holidays when I revise a bit before the holidays, then I don't revise whilst it's Christmas Eve, Christmas, Boxing day, New Years Eve and New Years Day etc and then I pick it up again after (:
SuperBeautyNerd 1 year ago
Advance Highers or you can pick up Intermediates to do as like a crash course, if you wanted to do the subject before but couldn't :)
so yeah that's the Scottish way hahaha xx
iHeaaart13 1 year ago
heyaa, so i posted there, but i kept posting stuff by mistake so i'm going to start over :)
i find english exams and stuff confusing too, haha.

Icecreamageful 1 year ago
i'm from scotland :L we have 'standard grades' like gcse's, in 4th year, that you do at different levels, like credit is the smartest and general is the middle and foundation is the not so clever. then we do highers, like a-levels in 5th year and then we can do advaced highers in 6th year. there's also intermediates, but that's just some subjects like physics and chemistry in 4th year, but you can do them in 5th year if you don't get credit standard grades then do highers in 6th year, confusing
ailz31 1 year ago
im doing my alevels now. and ive found it better that when you do past papers, if your teacher goes through the paper with the mark scheme while you look at what you wrote for the answer, you begin to realise exactly what the examiner wants because sometimes you have to be so specific you realise how unfair they really are.

Writting things down helps me alot. Just writting it over a million times helps me! But i also do everything you do! Oh it also helps to have someone question you. My boyfriend usually questions me sometimes, he asks questions and the act of explaining it to him helps me remember better.

I always have to say my notes out loud aswell, it really does help! Also, explaining what I've revised to someone who'll listen (or, even though it sounds strange, pretending there is someone there to explain it to) helps me loads too! Great video as usual :)

Sparkleslovestosmile 1 year ago
i am scottish:) you do standerd grades which are like GCSE's, then as o levels we do highers and a levels are advanced highers, its al basically the same really just diffrent names to confuse people, and our exmas are are placed close together and i think yours are spaced out, also we have prelims (instead of mock exams) and they are right now for me so this was really helpful thank you! xx
