  • great lesson, also reminded me of a video

    /watch?v=WMP7usdgmEk

dunno if you've seen this, but here's a transcription and playalong.

  • Damn man! I cant get over that drum set. SO AWESOME!

  • @MrButters4444 :) It's a Sonor DeLite. Lovely kit.

  • @pfefftube You're snare has a beautiful sound too. Did you buy that separate?

  • @MrButters4444 That was actually a gift from my first drum teacher. It's a really nice drum.

  • @pfefftube Woo! What a gift! haha. Great playing brotha.

  • Bananas.

  • ELE É DA FORÇA AZUL DO SAO BENTO

  • Hey, this is fits Dubstep drums perfect. Thank you.

  • Hey, first of all amazing and very helpful video to get an idea of the creativity of these guys.. Im interested though.. did you get the notes from somewhere? or were you actually able to find that out from the original song?? I thought you can normally guess what a guy is playing, but not for colaiuta!

  • @machine00head I transcribed it from the record. Had to slow it down though to really figure out what was going on and it took me a while to get my head around it.

  • @MSvideoman It really depends on the situation you're in.

For example, when recording a pop or rock song, playing rimshots

is a must. But if you play the same song in a ballroom on a wedding

party, it may sound too much. Anyway, playing live and in the studio

are always really different. When playing live, the volume level and

the sound of the whole band determines the way how to play the

backbeat on the snare. Not to mention a swing two-four, which is

    almost never rim shot accented.

  • joe youre hair is getting well long lol, but i like it :-)

  • Excellent video once again. Thanks for showing us the grooves of the one and only drumgod :)

  • Where can i hear your band?

  • @willywonka9385 Check out Wishbone Ash (google it), There's a live DVD of a recent gig (Live in London) available on the site or through Amazon and we tour a lot.

  • @pfefftube

wow...I saw WA in 1974 @ Music Hall in Cincinnati OH

Martin , Ted , Steve , and Andy touring in support of Wishbone IV

Vinegar Joe opened featuring a then unknown Robert Palmer on vocals along with Elkie Brooks . I think their drum was Keef Hartley .

    You're in a great band , man...best of luck 2 U

  • Sorry for the noob question but, are all your back beats snare rim shots?

Only been drumming for 2 years and just recently been around a lot of other drummers and it seems like all their back beats are rim shots.

And I've only recently realized that most good drummers do this?

  • @MSvideoman Hey, no worries about the noob question. I watched a Greg Bissonette video when I was 12 and he said all his back beats were rim shots. That's how I've played ever since. Occasionally I play backbeats in the centre of the head but it now feels a little awkward to me as there's a lot more rebound to deal with. I believe Steve Gadd rarely plays rim shots for back beats (hence the very angled snare) - so it's good to work on both.

  • @pfefftube Hey, thanks!

Does this apply for fills too?

  • @MSvideoman The answer to your question is yes and yes. At first, it is hard to consistently play the rimshots, but it is worth learning and it takes less time than you might think. Using rimshots provides a sharper, crisper timbre that creates a bigger and clearer backbeat. Good luck!

  • @MSvideoman thx bro, ive been playin for 2 yrs as well and had the exact same question :D

  • Awesome dude, one of the best teachers on you tube!!!!.........need you around more often.

  • holy AMAZING!!! Excellent Job joe!

  • Great job. Love the slow and methodical breakdown of the groove. Well done!

  • Hi, amazing performance.

  • @MenzaCrow That particular snare is a brass Mapex Pro 14 x 5. It wasn't expensive.
