The Broccolis are such hacks. Dumping this song for that Tina Turner train wreck was only a sampler of what was to come for the Brosnan films as a whole.
Serra creates a very strong, dynamic and *now* (circa 95) score for GoldenEye. So what do the Broccolis do? Fire him, so they could instead have anachronistic, self-referential and reverential "classic" Bond scores that...are boring as hell.
Just like the films they are attached to. GoldenEye was a happy accident. One of the better Bonds.
@sunshinebutmorerain What are you smoking and how do I avoid it? I like both songs, but Tina fits better in context of a Bond film...much like Shirley Basseys "Goldfinger".
As much as I like this song, it's so much different from most AoB sounds but wonderful, it is not THAT fitting as a Bond song. That might be the reason that it was pulled, having a downside effect on AoB's reputation. Later released however didn't help either. They should have just kept it.
Not bad, but I feel that Goldeneye Tina Turner's performance had a little more power to it. However, I think this song by Ace of Base should have been used as the end title song instead of "The Experience of Love."
Well, I really like that opening version. There's something in that song, even if it's slower and is less dynamic that the version used for the movie. There's a real atmosphere I think, which is quite fitting. Besides, it's not because it's an AoB song that it is not as good as the "Goldeneye" written by Bono and the Edge...
I have actually and it was alright. Not bad for a first draft and that's what it has to be loked at as: a 'first draft'. I think the final song is a definite improvement over the demo, but the demo was alright for a first go.
What I feel with this song is that it has more in common with the story themes of the movie than Tina Turner's song (which is not all that bad too). Turner's was more of a song that tried to imitate Shirley Bassey's Goldfinger.
GoldenEye is one of my favorites. But even I don't think its up there with films such as From Russia With Love, The Living Daylights, On Her Majesty's Secret Service and Casino Royale.
GoldenEye was originally written for Timothy Dalton and I think that if Dalton had made this movie, with some changes in the script and with this song at the start, then I think that GE could have been one of the best of the series, perhaps even typifying the series as a whole.
This is very good, LuiEComo. A very good song, I feel. My only criticsm with how you've done it is that you shoulld have delayed the start of the music at 0:07 by another 1 second, because you would have had some nice matching between what is happening onscreen and the music at certain points, such as 1:22 and 2:47.
Clive Davis thought the movie would be a flop, which would lead to the end of Ace of Base's popularity. Davis has always made hit-and-miss decisions about Ace of Base.
I have to say...the amazing thing is that both songs were clearly inspired by this intro yet at the same time....very very different. it just goes to prove how music can really change imagery...and vice versa as well...cuz really...after seeing it with this imagery I like both songs more! Hopefully, the movie will get a bonus feature with the Ace of BAse version as a bonus feature. that is...if a actual fully mixed version of the Ace song exists that isn't just a demo. D.Kumar ......!!!..???

I like the score of it, it's very Eastern European...but I prefer the energy and dynamism that Tina Turner's song had, particularly since it was Brosnan's first Bond film and Turner was a splashy choice to sing in Brosnan's reign.
@jackfrostbob It was originally meant to be GoldenEye, but the song got dropped, for Tina Turner, so they re jigged the title to The Juvenile and put it on their 2002 CD Da Capo.
Tina's song is by far much better musically, but the mood of this song goes much better with the vibe of the movie, imo. The melody really captures the whole Russian setting.
I'm assuming the original version used "GoldenEye," instead of what sounds suspiciously like "Juven-Eye." I agree that it does match the 90's theme that GoldenEye was going for, but I think they wanted to keep it understated, and this song is pretty forthright about it. Besides, you can't say no to Bono!
im sure it does and i do like the song but as i said i don't think the lyrics match the theam coz every other song is baced on the title of the film but this dosn't realy have ary conection to the film.
in short if you listened to it without the vid you wouldnt know which film it was mean to be for. but its still a cool song
this theme song embodies the decade of the 90's much better than tina turner's version of "Goldeneye". I think this song suited the movie better, turner's song seems out of place in relation to the theme of the movie.
Actually, the original lyrics fit very well. It was full of Cold War references. There used to be this same clip with a demo (not AOB) singing the original lyrics. In my opinion it's a little better than Tina's song and would've been a tremendous comeback for AOB. Their label wouldn't let them do it, so the lyrics were reworked to "The Juvenile" and released on their last CD "Da Capo". Instead of "The Juvenile" the words were "The Goldeneye".
For you info the Cold War was over in 1995,and ended in 1991 with the collapse of the Soviet Union. AOB were dreadful when they were around in the mid 90's but luckily they quickly disappeared into oblivion.

Ace of base sucks. It was bad enough they used Duran Duran for a view to a kill and A-ha for The living daylights. Thank God they never used this one. I never considered Tina Turner's Goldeneye one of the better songs,in fact it's one of the weaker ones, but it was still way better than this.

WOAH WOAH WOAH, Don't ever bad mouth Duran Duran or A-Ha, though the songs were awlful, just awlful, what was with the song for "A View to a kill" with the "Dance into the fire" WHAT HAS THAT TO DO WITH HORSERACING AND SILICON VALLEY
Really no basis to criticize unless you've heard the original version of this song...believe me...it fit way better than Tina's song. As for your other references...I like both...but if they had used the AOB's "The Goldeneye" I think you'd be singing a different tune, yourself.
What I dont get about the film (and I think the film is ok) is why did the bad guy use a load of clapped out 1950's technology to power the satellite.
the clapped out 1950's technology wasn't there to power the satellite, it was being used to send the control signals to it. And the reason they were using the old cold war era communications dish in cuba is because it wouldn't make sense to have them build a brand new multi-billion £ installation without anyone noticing, and because orimov was a general during the cold war he knew about the cuban dish.
To Be Honest, I Don't Think This Song Has The Audiological Impact That The Tina Turner Song Had - TIna's Goldeneye In My Opinion Is One Of The Best Bond Songs, Along With GoldFinger And Licence To Kill; Just Had The Bond Atmosphere Written All Over It. In Comparison This Is A Little Tame.
Live and let die. The only Bond song to get an Oscar nomination. Diamonds are forever was a good song but the movie was Connery's worst. Die another day with Madonna is at the bottom.

Yep, I had to chop out certain sections of the song to match up with the length of the video better. In the end, I'm pretty satisfied with how it turned out.
New topic, who would be your ideal artist or artist's to preform a James Bond theme, mine would either be Marc Almond or David McAlmont.
