  • inspite everything, they 3 always stood with their heads up and fighting for who they really are, and not trying to please someone being like other common artists. i love HANSON

  • They are really professional. I love Hanson. I know what Taylor means. Much respect to you Tay.

  • Fuck that Jeff! DANCING IN THE WIND is such a great song. UNDERNEATH is one of my favorite songs. ( Of course SAVE ME will always be my favorite.)

  • This part of SETB makes me want to punch Jeff F. In the Nose. Glad that Isaac, Taylor, and Zac don't have to deal with him any longer.

  • Their music made me who I am today. I can't remember a time that I didn't know Hanson.

I hope they never stop making music. I love growing up with them and I still have a long way to go. They have yet to disappoint me.

  • i like how taylor was the first to put up his middle finger i hated it when taylor said "you have 23 killer songs" and the guy was like "but we dont have a album"

  • did the label dude know he was being filmed?

  • Taylorlooks like he wants to smash the phone: gahh..gotta love hanson :)

  • This was a very sad episode but on the bright sad, Taylor looks hott angry...

  • "Hey" is awesome!Truly, incredibly awesome

  • if they sent in dancing in the wind, lost without each other and underneath, I don't get it. Those songs are PHENOMENAL!Lost without each other is frkin perfect

  • This phone conversation just really articulates everything I love about Hanson. They seem so sincere and passionate and confident about their work and it really comes through in the music they make- especially Underneath. That kind of strong will and integrity is so admirable and inspiring, in rock icons or otherwise. Bonuses to Tay for being so ridiculously even-tempered and eloquent. What is he here, like, 18? These boys were brought up so well.

  • At 2:54 and 3:04 Taylor looked like he was gonna get sick.....this made me so mad, that Jeff Fenster guy on the phone is a douche...he wouldn't know good music if was right there in his face...oh wait it was...what a damn idiot >:C

  • @AutumnAngel86 I actually thought he was going to collapse at one point.

  • I THINK THAT UNDERNEATH IS THEIr BEST ALBUM TOO!!!

this is sooooo sad.... happy they've got through it o.k!! starting their own record company was the smartest thing to do!

  • Love the middle fingers part!

  • You know the irony about this? that this album actually got good reviews!

  • Wow, DANCING IN THE WIND is my FAVORITE Hanson song, I can't believe that man didn't like it. And Hey is probably my least fave on that album.

I love this album so much. I'm so glad they stuck to their guns.

  • i cant believe the record label saying they dont think its good enough well you know their not the ones who have to here this f**king bulls**t and im glad they stuck there middle fingers up because the label needed it i dont like island def jam any more

  • this makes me angry hanson is good

  • its stressing me out.

and zach. watch ur mouth kay?

  • This is so freaking stressful to watch....lol

  • it sounds to me like the record company didn't want the guys to grow. They wanted the MMMBop & Where's the Love from them again and the guys were ready to grow from that and move on.

  • this makes me so mad... i just want to punch something! they went through so much... im so glad they are still around cuz i would have dropped the whole thing a log time ago! i admire their courage

  • haha that cellphone at the beginning is hilariously oldschool

  • Ike, Tay and Zac handled that incredibly well. Fenster is a tool >_<

  • WOW. they have ALL MY RESPECT as artists.they really went through hard times for their careers.wow!i'm speechless!

  • "...to work with John..." There you go, I knew it! Sorry, commenting halfway through the video :P

  • Sounds to me like they're just dismissing Hanson's work with Greg, because Glenn and John WANTS to do the work. Smells like politics to me.

  • You tell em guys. Taylor said everything amazingly. and ikes statement at 4:48 is amazing.

  • I also think Underneath is their best album

  • omg that guy si such an asshole. good for ya'll, for keeping your cool. you're right, zac, it's shit.

  • Hmm...I don't think I could sign up to a major label. It's all black & white - things have to be this way and that way.

Hanson's story is pretty similar to Vanessa Carlton's. Her label didn't want 'Harmonium' (which earned her some of the best reviews in her career) and said "on the next album, you do what we say". So she basically told them to sod off and asked to be released from her contract. She's now writing, recording, producing, arranging and mixing her forth record. And her quitting he

  • I'd had smashed the phone...honestly and before that, I'd been freaked out.... It's unbelievable how clam the voices of the boys stayed during this phonecall even they freaked out obviously almost, as we could see....They've tried everything their 'boss' told them, gosh I can understand why they've couldn't take these people anymore!!!

  • love the middle finger part! and tay is just angelic in that light

  • love the middle fingers part hahaha

  • Dancing on the wind not on the album bullshit! I couldn't imagine an album without it

  • wow.. I can't believe I haven't seen this yet. It amazes me how professional they were with this ass on the phone, and how they stood their ground. It pisses me off SO much that they had to go through that to get where they are now. Why can't radio and the general public see how much freakin integrity and TALENT these men have???

  • @BrattyCatt Couldn't agree more!!

  • I love this documentary. It's such an honest look at how the music business works, we rarely get to see this, how commercial it really is. And this part... gosh their frustration and anger is so apparent. At moments it almost looks like they're just ready to cry.

I wish more people watched this documentary. I think Hanson as a band would be much more respected if people did!

  • OMG That guy on the phone is a tool! I hope Hanson kicked his butt! Good on them for starting their own record label! Go Hanson! don't take that crap from no one!!

  • i'm curious to hear what he says about Hanson now...

  • it's soo amazing what they've gone through! and yet they never gave up:)that's really inspiring.

  • u tell'em guyz! wooo! lol,luv tays look @ 2:10!he's all...wtf?! of course it [dancing in the wind] was on the album anyway no matter wat they thought!& NICEE w/ the fingers guys! lol 3:30.& tays look again @ 4:00 and MOST OF ALL zac @ 4:45 w/ ike! lol i luv seeing them mad....idk y! itz kinda funny cuz they usually seem like such peicful ppl!

  • "So we're gonna move forward on our record with unarticulated statement...??" good reply!!!!!! 5 stars!!

  • Dancing in the wind didn't need to be on the album? whatever fuck wit..LOL Its one of my favourite songs!

  • I have watched this so many times and it is STILL never fails to make me so. damn. infuriated.

If I were in their shoes, oooooh the telling off that man would have had!!! haha. Thank goodness Tay is exceptionally level headed because I do NOT think many people could handle that kind of complete idiocy that calmly!

Their faces are just .. :(:(:( Ugh. EFF YOU JEFF FINSTER. Eff. You.

  • Its amazing how Taylor handles it calmly i would have totally flipped out! The songs they wrote were amazin how could he not see that! >:(

  • guys, i'm really impressed on how you stayed strong and not let that douche get the better of you. you guys all have good temper-control. even though i could have swore that zac was about to break, you kept together and we are all proud of you guys for that!

  • i love how they are so cordial with the douche on the phone-i know i would have cursed while speaking to him but they really kept it together

  • If I were to hear all the stuff they had to hear....

  • i as a musician felt their fuckin anger/pain man lol

  • taylor i love u ... just how u got the guy to pause on thr phone.

that just proves that ur a dumbass....

    tell it how it is!

  • Defently have to commend Isaac Taylor and Zac on keeping their composure during that phone call.. I wouldnt had been able to keep my composre as gracefully as they did... especially with what was being said of having to start from scratch.. great job guys!

  • That phonecall part was awful :'( Taylor looked so sad and disappointed while Zac and Isaac were kinda like trying to smile the frustration away... I just wanted to hug them all :)

  • Love when they gave the bird.LOL.

    Their so cute.

  • which part was that? i must've missed it.

  • Tay does it at 2:30 and then Zac and Ike also do it.

  • HAHAA! Thank u!

  • oooouch :(

  • thats rediculious! shit would of not been the only cuss word said to that guy if i was them.

  • That is so frustrating to watch. I think I would have given Fenster an good old "f*ck you" and hung up. But that's just me. LOL

  • Love it wen they all stick their fingers up!! Laughed soooo hard!! Love Hanson 4ever xx

  • i agree with you 14istheluckynumber, Tayor is effing sexxyyyy. all the time though. lol

  • dancing in the wind has always been one of my favorite songs on that album.

  • U gotta feel sorry for them, but on the brightside they look good pissed.

  • i would of loved to hear the songs they wrote. sorry they had to go through that =(

  • God, you can't help but feel so sorry for them in this episode. It's ridiculous what they had to put up with.

  • i totally agree, but at least they didnt fall apart after all this crap, they still kept doing what they love to do. :)

  • they're music is sooo diferent than those of Britney spears and N sync at that time.. and those guys in DefJam wanted them to make that kind of music which was so popular back then and did sold a lot of records but that was'nt what Hanson were musically... this is very interesthing to watch.. thanks guys 4 uploading that!

  • taylor is so unbelievably sexy when he is angry...

  • they are all so pissed off i dont blam them

  • That's my favorite episode of SETB. Taylor looks so good in there, and I like the way he's doing his best to stay calm, open and constructive. Most of the songs the recorded from the album Underneath were great, but I'm not sure they picked the best ones for the album. I don't realy like "Misery" or "Deeper", I prefer "My own sweet time" or "Let you go" for example. One thing they are really bad at : choosing a single. "Someone" they chose for France is I think the worse song they ever made.

  • I honestly thought Taylor was going to throw the phone... Truely.... He looked so pissed!

  • i thought he was gona fall over

  • i think Underneath is their best album.

  • @belaycastillo Middle of Nowhere and Underneath. Then 3 Car Garage (its originality and rawness...and....all the magic from being kids) and Snowed In.

  • I'm feeling a bit better that the Comments underneath this Vid are changing from "Whos Cute" to actually listening and watching it. How bloody incredibly PROFESSIONAL the way they talked to Fenster, but giving him the "finger" was Awesome! I agree most would have smashed the Phone, but 2:40 on showed incredible patience, intelligence and thought and left Fenster dumbstruck. I may not like all their music, at-least they have a "vision" for an album and who the Band is and where they want to go.

  • I couldn't agree more. You could just see how Jeff's comments just about knocked the wind out of Taylor, but he kept his cool. I can't believe how well they all handled that conversation - professional, articulate, and standing up for what they believe in without acting disrespectful. I have even more respect for Hanson as people after watching this.

  • Tay is so gorgeous in this video!!!!!

  • Underneath is my fav album out of all of them that is redank that the guy said all that stuff.

And i loved 2:28 haha, thats what i would do. :)

  • these songs are really great...I had no idea!

  • I guess he thought that they shoould have another hit song like MMMbop or something like that. he wanted them to write another pop hit that fits our time and our pop culture, but Hanson do'nt do this type of commercial music anymore. and so what if they're not popular as they were in the 90's?? at least they stayd true to themselvs.

  • wtf is wrong with youuuu!!!!!!!! all the songs on the underneath album were great i loved them all what jeff said was bullllshitttt!

  • I can not believe how well they handled it. Taylor especially just blew my mind with his professionalism. I think had it been me I probably would have been like, You know what? Screw you, you know nothing about us or our music, you're too busy looking for the next Britney Spears or Backstreet Boys, we're absolutelyl done here, goodbye. They are such a great group of guys and their music is phenomenal, it enrages me to see how much crap they had to deal with!

  • i agree.. they should have left that guy a loooooong time ago.. what an ass! that guy on the phone is just a asshole

  • What an ass. But the great part is, some of those songs got on the album and it was a great one too. You guys rock out. And great job on the writing.

  • you know what. all hansons songs are great. fuck that dude.

  • I love how calm and intelligent the boys are.

  • that jeff is shit!!!!!!!

  • They showed a tremendous amount of class for their age. I mean, they were 15-20 when that was made. Wow

  • tay was 19- 20 Zac was 15 IKe was 22ish

  • there's about 3 years between each of them.

  • Almost... Isaac had just turn two when Taylor was born, but your right about zac and Taylor though. Even thought Zac was a premie.

  • isaac: november 17th, 1980

    taylor: march 14th, 1983

    zac: october 22nd, 1985

  • me and isaac have the same bday :) i'll never get over that! well i was born in 93 but it still makes me happy

  • i am so proud of them for taking it it is not easy

  • What is wrong with that man?

I would have been dropped from the label right then cause a whole lot of people would have gotten cust out

  • arrrghh i hate that guy on the phone!! what a tard!!

  • "You are the artist,I'm not". He's a businessman,and he wants profit.

  • I think they should've left that label very early in the writing process.

  • Fuc+in bastard...i would have said him to fu´c off after 1 min of conversation..

    3:23

    4:57

..man poor Tay was so nervous..what a looser producer, Hanson is Hanson, they have a distinctive and recognisable sound, its their sound, and thats what male the bands difernt from the others..glad they sh´t for those bastards and started theit own thing..

  • ahhhhhh! im infuriated!! those are great songs, especially Underneath.

i did love how they all flipped him off thoughh.

  • qien empezo a acer la groseria taylor o isaac?

  • geee, i got so mad about that fone call because those songs are so damn good!

  • It's obvious that Fenster is the devil, because if he wasn't, then he would understand what it meant to have a soul !!,

G-d that idiot just pisses me off.

I was thinking, poor Hanson, this is where they lose their innocense & purity, but,,,,they dont!!

  • Zac said it. it's the truth. "that's shit"

This music that they've been writting is amazing art and moves the soul. This guy... i hate to say it, but this guy obviously doesn't have one.

  • tays reaction at 3:23 makes me wanna cry he just seems so overwelmed ive been a fan for 11 years im just so happy they made it threw this screw jeff!

  • And this is why I hate mainstream pop. It chokes all that is artistic and meaningful out of music and leaves you with an empty heart and a pulsing beat. It has no soul, no story and no life. This event may seem like crap, but all this struggle clearly strengthened the band's resolve to never compromise their artistic integrity.

  • so jeff's an idiot.

and hanson is my hero for not only standing up to him like they did, but for flipping off the phone.

dispite everything, you know that was funny.

  • that bastard jeff guy must be feel so stupid because underneath was an album enhanced by critics!they are far from need stupids opinions like his.He doesn't even know what good music is!

  • what a nerd!!!i hate this guy!dancing in the wind is one of my favourite songs by them!!!

  • ugh w.e!

    u disgust me.

  • THE INFAMOUS PHONE CALL

  • aww that dude on the phone was so nasty. why the hell would they have to start from scratch on the writing. the songs are awesome.

  • and actually underneath is my favorite album

  • that guy doesn't know what he is talking about dancing in the wind is one of the best songs on the album!

it's nice how taylor tries to make peace between everyone where as isaac and zac are just like whatever you suck. haha

  • Dude! How could he expect them to move forward if HE doesn't even know what direction he wants them to go in. Taylor is sitting there going 'well should we do this, this or this' and that moron couldn't even give them an answer!

  • Who the hell cares if they swear? Please you go through all the shit they went throuch those years and try not to utter one swear word

  • I understand that. I'm just saying that I don't like hearing them swear. Actually, I don't like hearing anyone swear. Is that such a bad thing?

  • Yes. You need to get over it.

  • was that about my comment?

  • Oh fuck off

  • If they dared to say Underneath (one of the best songs ever) wasn't enough is because they don't even have a little bit of ear music (if that's the term) well be a musician and being a executive are tooooo diferent thing... UNDERNEATH IS A CLASSIC!

  • i know i love "underneth" what is wrong with jeff what a loser!

  • wtf i loved dancin in the wind

  • Man this episode was hard! i think those guys should stick to Britney spears and that crap... they obviously dont know good music!

  • Way to go with that middle finger. I would have done the same....gahhhh ! Geez, I cant belive that. They had some amazing songs. I swear I do not think that man was listening.. .

  • i like how Zac said in a smart alleck way "yeah thanks"

  • yea me to i just feel so sorry for them in this episode tay looks like he is going to blow up zsc looks like he is going to cry ike just looks pissed off

  • i know

  • Zac did cry when they talked about it on VH1 all access part 4

  • that is so sad. they went threw hell with this cd and i like it even more know cause of what htey went threw.

  • You're saying this exactly where they also talked about it. Is this VH1 all access part 4 up on youtube? Because I can't find it anywhere and I would really like to hear more about all that. Thanks.

  • TAY LOOKS LIKE HE WANTS TO CRY AS WELL

  • i have neva liked jeff its so so sad wen tay gets upset bless him !

  • u can tell hes clearly upset

  • tay sounds like hes getting P'od

  • when Tay leaned foreward is it just me or did he look nausious

  • Dancing in the Wind is one of my favorite Hanson songs. The album would be lost without it.

  • omg their frustration is soooo hott

  • This is just breaking my heart.

  • tay looks so upset and frusterated i feel so bad for them all

  • Every single song that they have ever written has been a hit in my eyes! Record producers need to stop thinking about what the mass population will see as a hit and think about making good music. If only they let these artists be themselves there would be more music out there that actually meant something!

  • I definitely agree with that. Theres too much emphasis on making the music thats going to hook the mass populace. Things become over manufactured and the realness of the music really gets lost.

  • I agree with both of you. Although I do understand that they want the music aimed at the mass pop. (more fans = more money.. and sadly enough that's all anyone cares about) they really need to consider what the BAND likes, and what the BAND wants to do. I've been a fan of Hanson since their very first song came out, and their music has changed with their age in a good way definitely. I've only fallen more in love with their music, them, and especially their passion for what they do.

  • Ahhhh!! I can't even imagine how freaking frustrating that must have been.. They are such great song artists and to have someone tell them that all they wrote sucks... I would be ticked!!

  • god this kills me. I LOVE dancing in the wind, the album wouldn't be the same without it.

  • The guys were so patient with those idiots!

It must've felt like the biggest liberation to leave that behind, to break free from tose people, who oviousl onl saw the band as a cow to be milked for money.

  • Hanson we will always stay here beside you... You are so talented.... and u have more things to offer to your fans... u are extremely talented...

  • This just shows that Jeff knows nothing considering Underneath turned out to be AMAZING, especially with having "Dancing In The Wind" included on the cd..Fuck those guys. Hanson is amazing and talented and I am so proud to be a fan of them.

  • Amen!

  • I love how Zac's major contribution to the discussion was "what you just said was shit." And that's really all that needed to be said. Fantastic, you guys.

  • It's things like this that make me happy that I'm NOT on a major label and working independently. I would rather sell only 10 cds and have good songs that I believe than to sell 10 million cds with songs that I don't like.

  • zac is right up in there.. they all are.. they should always fight for what they believe in most,, im so proud of them.. i never knew how hard it was and how much effort and trouble a band goes through when making a new album. take a bow hanson, take a BIG ass bow, cause we all love you!!

  • this is a great episode and depressing i agree. But its the point where the band finally sees that they are not going to get what they want to get in this album with Jeff Finster up their butt!

I love Zac because he's the only one who made his first impression to Jeff an honest one... when he says, that what he says is BS, I love it! It's a totally honest opinion, unlike what Ike and Tay said the first time, going around their real opinion....

  • @mochellie

I agree; I've heard on more than a few occasions that Zach [although the youngest in the group] is the most honest, straightforward one, and I can't say that I dispute that at all.

  • @EuphoriaPiana i look up to him, the most, for that fact alone.

  • That guy is definitely clueless.. I mean saying 'Dancing in the wind' is a song that doesn't need to be on the album? That's like my favourite off Underneath. It's brilliant. Ah well at least good things came from having to go through that crap :]

  • i think this is my favorite episode, besides the first one. taylor looksso depressed...:(

But i love the way they reacted to the call.

  • i can't even imagine how hard it must be and heart renching it was them to go thorugh and hear the things that were going on!!!!

  • aww, this episode is so hard to look at they look so sad, i wanted to cry... :(

  • Oh, I know! I just wanted to give them all big hugs!

  • tay is so trying to be nice but hes at a point where he want to cuss them out
