The best way to protest this fee hike is to spend your money at a different school. Once the student number decreases and so does the money the board will change and stay competitive. It is interesting to see so many people want to change a free market system like the one in this country and yet still want all the perks of it. Across the world many students have or had a free college education until now because now students are being charged and tution is going up. This is wrong. California is in debt. Taxes are going towards salaries of officers who do a horrible job and no I can't do better, it's not my job. My job is to get an education to make a living so I won't have to struggle. Yes, some students may not take advantage of the opportunity for a higher education but most of us do!

As a UC Davis alum ('05), I now wonder...when I have kids, will I be able to afford to send them to a UC school? Once they jack up the fees they aren't going to reverse course and cut them when the economic climate improves. When will they rise to $12k? $15k? $20k? It's absolutely disgusting for a public university system to price out the middle class like this.

It must be a great feeling for the Regents to burden their new graduates with financial debt with their diploma.

This is inspiring and upsetting at the same time. This system we are living in is not working. I am a UCD student, and this is likely to affect whether or not I can go to school here anymore.

Legalize pot and release non-violent drug offenders so that we can save the money we are wasting on them in prison. There are so many better solutions to this problem.

From 2001-2005 alone, fees at the UC system doubled. As I understand it, student fees make up a very small percentage of the operating funding for the UC campuses. I graduated from UC Davis in 2008 and saw my fees creep up steadily throughout my time there between 2004 and 2008. As a former California Aggie photo/journalist, I am very happy to see AggieTV's coverage of this event. I hope that it remains nonviolent. --Andrew Leonard

What is being protested at the UC level is part of what has been insideously infecting K-12 public education for a long time under the guise of NCLB.

I have never been prouder to be an alumna of UC Davis (1979 B.S. Human Development).
