@ahhhitsrob Well friend, I'd recommend "Apostrophe" (it's more rock-like) if you think you aren't quite ready for the conflicting polyphony of Zappa, I know I wasn't when first started listening. For 60's beatle like sound, go for "Freak Out!" (it's a purely sarcastic album). For epic pieces of somewhat classical music, go for "Burnt Weeny Sandwich" or "Läther". For jazz, go for "Hot Rats".
To be honest he has so many albums with such diversity, that even I haven't heard em all.
@ahhhitsrob For some great late period Original Mothers, I recommend "Weasels Ripped My Flesh!" "My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama" and "Dwarf Nebula..." are classics!
@ Howinoshawa It means; a highly representative example of a type, class or characteristic.Methinks you're au fais with the definition, your just trying to hide that light.Epitome is a great word to employ when describing the works of this giant of a musician.
Maybe the last album using that band name... BUT... everyone came and went throughout the years.. in studio or on tour... the line up changed more often than Deep Purple's...
Last week i saw the grande mothers and they played a mean version of this... I think we will here more from Zappa in the future. Franks compositions deserve to be played, again and again and again etc. Now where's my guitar...
it really doesnt matter if its zappa, frank zappa, francis zappa, or the mothers, the mothers of invention, the g.t.os. or the plaster casters. its fuckin zappa.
Heard this when it first came out so many years ago. I can't begin to count the number of times the line -- "She didn't like it when her fan belt shrunk and got shorter" -- has played itself back in my mind. Truly representative of Zappa's unique genius.
still have the vinyl somewhere. i was 14 when it came out and wore the groove outs. having not listened to it for years, i had forgotten how strong Duke's analog synths are.
I think if anyone disliked this musically you would have to be an idiot.
