Your mod was obviously very effective! I discovered another even easier modification which cost nothing at all and proved effective against 'blade strike' as well:
* straighten blades (upper and lower) and tighten blade mounts so they do not collapse in or move from flight position (fully extended and straight).
* add packing tape over the entire blade surface (upper and lower), being careful to push out air bubbles
Thanks for the tips but will it slower down the forward flight if the blades was too straight because of the packing tape. I notice that if the blades is a bit softer than the original the forward flight speed would be increased!
I don't currently have a Big Lama (..though I'm buyin' one at the end of the month - Yeah!!). I've got an Esky 4CH Co-Comanche which I've done the 'tight blade' and 'taped blade' mods mentioned above to and it flies great with no loss of lift or speed, but it's blade length is shorter as is the overall size & weight.
The Co-Comanche is 16.5" in length, -vs.- 20.5" for Big Lama.
Principles are the same though: Coaxial helis tend to have blade strike problems w/ quick control changes.
Blade breakage is I think a problem that all of us who love helicopters face no matter what. It's interesting though that you've found on the Big Lama that 'softer' blades fly better than the tougher ones. I've always tended to buy the stiffer blades and then tighten them fully-extended, and with a little tape also, they just last longer.
With the extreme blades, extended shaft, extreme 180 motors and 1000mah 20 c 2s battery for the Co-Comanche, you will have a superb heli that fly fast, longer flying time, no more blade strike and unbreakable blades!
This is one of the perfect combination that you should try it out.
@technoelect I have a question...is there a reason why you didn't install the Xtreme 380 motors? Wouldn't that have provided even more power? With the Xtreme 180 motors being smaller than the stock 370 motors, they still outperform stock? Thanks!
I have tried that but found the main board driver ICs was quite hot! When i put back the original motors, the ICs were warm only and not hot. I believe if we use the Extreme 380 motors, add in bigger Mah battery and bigger blades, the control board ICs will surely blow. I am satisfy with the original motor because it already flew very fast and after dozens of flight the motors are still good in condition.
@technoelect Thank you for getting back to me! : )
I'll have to take that into consideration about the overheating. I think that for now, I may just place a couple heat sinks on the original motors to help prevent overheating. Do the Xtreme 180 motots out-perform the stock Esky 370 motors? Have you tried the 3D pro hardened blades?
It had slightly more power than the stock motors. It is your preference because i found the stock motors quite powerful too. I have not use 3d pro blades before but i have used the Airy hardened blades. It will still break if there is a hard crash. Miracle dash mart dot com have few version of Big lama blades and you can try it out.
Thats really good mate. I've heard that the big lamas stock motors arent the best and you will replace them after a few dozen flights. Have you seen or had any issues? I'm just thinking either that or getting the upgraded brushless version. Thanks mate!
So far no problem with the stock motors. With stock motors, the heli already can fly very fast. You can upgrade to brushless but you have to pay more.
nice mod, that coxial is fast! First time I have seen a lama flying that fast good work:) I've ordered mine I can't wait, I've ordered the metal mods and also 3dpro extended shaft. Where are you guys flying? Hong Kong?
The starting of my video have a link to a free report to show you how you can do that. You need to key in the link into your browser and you will get the free report.
I just bought a brushless metal upgraded version but need to install the extended shaft. Before i start pulling the heli apart i was just wondering if you could help with how i should go about it.
repaced extended long shaft, but no lift off, any suggestions?

dam then i crashed too hard that my main shaft got an L shape =/ snif....
heberorozco 1 year ago
the bad thing about unbreakable blades is that in several crashes the main shaft bends and the heli starts to vibrate very bad...
heberorozco 1 year ago
So far after so many crash the modified extended shaft still remain straight and no bends at all. Thanks for commenting.

Hi Jamal,
I use a 3mm screw driver. You could see the website address on how to make one the moment the video was played.

Hi,
The shaft is only USD1.00 but you have to modify it yourself.

You can get a full metal head upgrade AND the extended shaft for like $12 more than what this shaft cost alone. Look on EBAY

Also, is this how fast it flys with the standard motors? if not, what have you got in it?
Also, nice flying!
