  • It can be difficult to live in the 'now', if you live in Somalia and have no food or water. Hunger and thirst tend to unbalance the biological state and hence the psychological. No matter what we do, chemicals still play a major role in brain function and mood. Not all of us are ascetic gurus. The only new stage of consciousness that I perceive in humanity, is growing greed and rugged individualism. Regardless, Eckhart still has much to say that is important to humanity.

  • @GazGuitarz I quess a person living without food or water lives more in the now than an average person in a welfare state. A person living constantly under the threat of dying doesn't have the energy to wallow in the past or worry about the next day. The whole concentration is on the surviving in the present moment. They don't have "the luxury" of living in the past or in the future.
