Because of this excellent video, my husband bought this product for me for my 61st birthday. He was very satisfied with the customer service rep. on the phone. We have shopped "in store" locally and were quite dissatisfied with their lack of customer service, thereby deciding to buy elsewhere. Thank you again. I am a rank beginner and look forward to learning on this instrument!
if i buy the dgx 640 with just the basic sastane peddle if in feather downthe line would i be able to fit the 3 peddle at a later date hope you can help and i hope ive made sence thanks
Thanks for your interest, glad you enjoyed our video review. Would you consider placing an order with Kraft Music? Depending on your location, we can have a DGX640 delivered to you in about 2-4 business days. You'd pay no sales tax, and our BUNDLES can save you a ton of money on accessories! Feel free to contact me with any other questions or to place an order. Thanks again!
Quick question: On the keys, is it harder to press down as you move further up (away from you)? I have a portable grand keyboard which does that, making it impossible to have perfect intonation. I was hoping that this piano would have equal pressure amounts on every area of each key, just like a grand.
He didn't mean as the keys went higher in pitch, but as you go higher on the key itself. Like, usually people press the end or the middle of the key, but he wants to know about the top.
hi! im kinda in a little situation here,, im looking forward to buying a new digital piano,, the thing is that im deciding between this piano,, and the yamaha arius ydp141 ,,, which one would you recommend for a beginner pianist??
hi! umm,,, im trying to decide between 2 digital pianos,,, im thinking about getting either this one or the yamaha ydp141,, which one do you think is better???
Well, they use the same key action...the YDP141 has a more traditional furniture-style cabinet, but the DGX640 provides more sounds and features. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
@hvfobxtdaaf123 choose well...if u love playing PIANO and PIANO only, then u might choose the Arius (which i did)...But if u love accompaniements and features such as beats and one-man show,,then DONT hesitate,,,opt for the DGX....
i was in the same dilemma as u,,,i chose the Arius,,,today i feel i'm regretting my choice....:S....DONT BE LIKE ME,,,,choose well..
Does the keys feel like a real piano or do they feel like "buttons", I have a regular keyboad and hate the way the keys feel like buttons and was thinking of upgrading to this one.
The DGX640 does have fully weighted keys that give you a much more realistic piano action. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Considering your priorities, I think the YDP161 would be a better fit for you. It won't give you the wide variety of sounds found in the DGX640, but you will have an improved key action and more powerful built-in speakers. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
When played through the internal speakers, the YDP161 will sound a bit fuller because of the larger internal speakers. When playing through headphones, the two instruments will sound very similar. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.

Great video. You simply explained the DGX640 by playing samples without going into full details. Thanks Mark from Las Vegas Nevada. I may just go out and buy one.

Let's see if I remember my highschool french... Yes, you can attach the triple pedal to the DGX640. I'm not sure about the DGX630, because that model is only carried by big box electronics stores, not musical instrument stores like Kraft Music. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
@kraftmusic XeOxTeam asked if you can BUY the three attachable pedals AFTER you buy the piano, or does it only come with the piano? (from what I understood) By the way, piano is awesome, my friend just bought it. Great video, it really sums up the piano's potential :)
Got it. Yes, the triple pedal board (LP7) is sold separately. We have packages that include the pedal board along with the piano, or you can purchase the pedal board later. Thanks!
DGX640 is the only instrument out of the three that will give you guitar, solo violin, and grand piano sounds. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
could you tell me, what is better : this dgx 640, the arius ydp s31 or the ydp 135r? I' trying to buy but I'm not sure. And what number (1-10) could you give them? It's so important you let me now your opinion about the keys, and most important, the sound.
@kraftmusic a lot of thanks! I think I decided for this. But, Am I wrong If I say the Live! Grand Piano voice of DGX 640 is more "real" than the sound of the ydp s31, 161 and the 135R? That's something I think after prove the 640 and the 135R. Am I right?
Hi, I am really confused selecting between three keyboards - Yamaha DGX 640, Yamaha MM8 & Casio WK 7500. I am an amateur player of melodies & light classical songs and do compositions sometimes. I need for varieties of sounds, drum beat patterns (including user defined beats) and recording features. I observed Casio has more features where you can record voice too costs only $400. DGX 640 piano sounds really good when you play but when I played & heard through speakers I found it far from real.
If you had to rate this piano based on the feel of the keys compared to an original grand piano, what would it be? (1-10) I'm planning on purchasing a piano but I can't afford the big grand pianos so I have to get a keyboard. Which one would you recommend?
Hard to say...please keep in mind that I'm not a piano player (I'm a recording engineer and bassist). I'd say the DGX640 would rate a six out of ten when compared to a real piano. An instrument with upgraded action like a Yamaha P155 or YDP181 would probably score closer to a seven or eight out of ten. Of course, this is all subjective. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
No seriously, I'm not! I should have clarified...I'm not the guy you see playing in the video. That's our digital piano product specialist, Adam Berzowski. He is most definitely a piano player. I'm the guy behind the camera who edits the videos and responds to the questions on YouTube :) Feel free to contact me with any other questions. Thanks for watching!
Glad you enjoyed our video. I took the direct output of the DGX640 and ran them into our HD camcorder. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Thanks for your interest in the Yamaha DGX640 and P155. The DGX640 does feature a nice weighted action (known as Graded Hammer Standard), but the P155 features an upgraded action that's smoother and more realistic (known as Graded Hammer Effect). If you're looking for the best action, and don't need all the sounds and features of the DGX640, I'd recommend the P155. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
I am Planning on buying this piano but does this piano make a lot of noise when the keys are hit, I've heard thats a problem with some digital pianos. Thank You and God Bless.
Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the DGX640. All digital pianos make some degree of physical noise when the keys are struck. I haven't found the DGX640 to be particularly noisy, and when you have the speakers on the key noise isn't really noticeable. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Well, the P95 is going to give your the same key action as the DGX640 with fewer sounds and features. If you need lots of sounds, you'll probably want to go with the DGX640. If you need the instrument to be light and portable, the P95 might be a better choice.
I'm just wondering if the Yamaha DGX-640 can also be battery-operated? I'm not really sure if that's even possible since it seems like it needs a lot of power to operate but.....just asking :)
The DGX640 cannot be run on batteries. You'll need to use the included AC adapter. If you need a keyboard that can run on batteries, you may want to check out the Yamaha NP series. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
@kraftmusic Okay thanks for the info! I actually like the DGX640. It would've been awesome if it can also be battery-operated but even if it's not, that's still okay. Thanks again!:)
I was wondering how this stacks up towards the P155. The P155 appears to be more expensive, but the DGX-640 seems to have just as good quality sounds and the keys seem to be the same quality. (They both have Graded Hammer Standard I believe.) Please let me know what is the better better choice. i'm thinking the DGX is, but I'm not sure why it's cheaper than the P-155.
Hi, Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the Yamaha DGX640. Actually, the key action on the P155 is better than the DGX640...it uses the "Graded Hammer Effect" action which is a little heavier, smoother, and more realistic. That being said, the DGX640 does give you more sounds and features to work with, whereas the P155 focuses on having a small selection high quality sounds. Let me know if you have any more questions.
Due to our dealer agreement with Yamaha, we are not allowed to ship outside of the U.S. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns. Thanks for watching!
looks so good. im getting one soon, when yamaha finally sends out stock!! been almost 2 weeks since i ordered myself one. cant wait though. great video!!
Hi, the Yamaha DGX640 starts at $799 including the matching furniture-style stand. We have BUNDLES starting at $800.99 that provide all the extras you may need such as a bench, headphones, dustcover, and the optional triple pedal. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
You'll want to try a Hammond organ type sound with rotary speaker (leslie) effect. The DGX640 should have a selection that would work for you...try patch #026 called "Purple Organ". Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Yes, this instrument has several acoustic piano sounds that do a good job at simulating the sound of an acoustic instrument. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
I am looking to buy this Piano. (Probably in the next 2-3 months). My local music store has this piano but they don't have any such thing as "Package Deals". So I've made the decision to buy off your website. My question is, I'm not quite ready to order yet and I was wondering when I place my order will there be Sales Tax? It will be much appreciated if you respond. Thanks, and will look forward to doing business with you soon!
Thanks for your interest in the DGX640 and our exclusive Kraft Music BUNDLES! We are only required to collect sales tax if you are located in our home state of Wisconsin (we're based in Milwaukee). Otherwise there is no tax, and shipping is free. Please contact me with any other questions or concerns.
hi ! I was very interested in the Yamaha YPG-640... although now i'm considering the Yamaha DGX 640...can you tell me what's the real difference with these two ?.. i'm having a hard time figuring it out from the Yamaha website....thanks, much appreciated.. :)
Thank you for the demonstration, I just ordered the family bundle. RB3 pro piano really got me loving the instrument. Will learn plenty in the future:)
Very impressed with the DGX-640 and thank you for the great demo.
I would like to know about the MIDI capabilities of DGX-640.
Can it be used as a MIDI controller to work with software synthesizers?
I use FL Studio and Cubase as DAW and want to get myself a good 88 key hammer action piano/keyboard to be able to work with FL Studio and enjoy the in-built sounds. Which ones would you suggest for me!!
A most prefessional and competent presenter. Thank you for this great demo. Now, I am going to buy the YAMAHA DGX-640. If your shop was in the England - UK, I would buy it from you. Great player, too. THANKS AGAIN.
Yes, you will find some choir voices in the DGX640 as well as hundreds of other sounds. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
The YPG635 was the previous model, the DGX640 is the current version. Not a lot of huge changes, some additional functionality on the DGX640 and some cosmetic changes. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
I am a beginner, I am looking for one good digital piano, this one is really good, But it has too many features and some of them maybe are not I needed. I just want that natural sound of a traditional grand piano and also the function of connecting to pc (through cable). some more other type of instrumental sounds is fine to me. Thank you, hope you can reply in a short time.
Thanks for your interest in the DGX640 digital piano. I think this would be a great instrument for you. It provides a great acoustic piano sound as well as the ability to connect to your computer. If you don't require all of the bells and whistles, you may want to consider Yamaha's P155 digital piano. Thanks for watching!
The keyboard was recorded direct without any eq, compression, or processing. It's a pretty accurate representation of how the board will sound when played through headphones or for recording. The on-board speakers will affect how you experience that sound when listening to the DGX640 in person. Thanks for watching!
Is there a big difference between the piano sound of the dgx640 and the ydp-141? Because the dgx has a lot of functions, so that seems to be the ideal choice. But the piano sound is an important thing too, so please answer! :)
Thanks for your interest. Unfortunately, due to our dealer agreement with Yamaha we are not allowed to ship outside of the U.S. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Glad you enjoyed our demo. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns. Please consider our exclusive BUNDLES, as they represent a great value on the DGX640. Thanks for watching!
Actually the version of DGX640 that appears in this video is the darker walnut finish. This model is sometimes referred to as DGX640W. The DGX640C is the cherry finish, and it's a lighter wood finish. Thanks for your interest. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Oh man... I'm a huge classical nerd when it comes to piano, but man, that little bit you played at 5:02-5:18 was groovy!
What sound was that?
Almost want to make the DGX640 my next piano just for the quality and amount of the sounds. Something about switching from standard piano sounds to a plethora of other sounds that shoots life back into your fingers, just for the amusement.
I'm debating between this and the yamaha P95. The main issue is price but the feel of the keys is better on the DGX. Do you know if the graded hammer depreciates over time?
Thanks for your interest. The DGX640 and P95 should have a very similar key action.
The action of any digital piano will change a bit over time and the key mechanism breaks in. It shouldn't be a huge change over time. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
i just got this piano, and im pretty new to it, and my mom got rid of the manual for it.. but i was wondering , how do put music from a usb key into the piano
That's a classic electric piano, the sample is simulating a Fender Rhodes sometimes called a tine or suitcase piano. Feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
I have read dozens of professional and user reviews and everybody is extremely enthusiastic about this keyboard. My son played it in-person at our local music store and he loved the feel of the weighted keyboard. As a result I just ordered one from from Kraft Music. I would have liked to have given my business to our local music stored, but Kraft Music's deal of the DGX640 keyboard + Free LP7 Triple Pedal + Free Shipping (combined with no sales tax) for $799.99 is the best deal around.
Me, too. I keep trying to find a better deal locally online. I've seen older customer vids who said the pedal was optional, but I guess it's free now (at least for now according to the site).
I have to admit, I wasn't crazy about the looks at first, but it's grown on me rapidly. Based on the many good reviews and videos by so many people, I'm going to test it out tomorrow locally and then come back later this week to order (to time delivery with my week off mid-month).
Thanks for your interest. Your are correct, the Yamaha DGX640 now includes a free LP7 pedal board. Our BUNDLE offers now reflect that change (with the exception of the STAGE BUNDLE). Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns. Thanks!
I Ordered this piano from Kraft Music about a week ago and it arrived great... UPS had a little bit of shipping trouble due to weather they were not shipping from our local facility for 3 days and were backed up... I had seen on UPS website that it was at the nearest facility that would usually ship to me (20 miles away maybe) but were not shipping on time due to the snow storm... I called Kraft music and talked to Bob and he had UPS hold it for me to pickup.... THANKS
Hello, Your comments are very, very good! Congratulations! Please, in your opinion, what is the best mechanism piano keys (hammer action): Yamaha DGX 640 or Casio Privia PX 330?
Thank you so much! And sorry for my bad english...
Does the Yamaga DGX-640 have weighted keys? I am looking for a piano-type keyboard, and am almost sold on this one. Also, does it have the Suitcase Electric Piano Sound? A friend of mine owns a portable grand and recommended this sound.
No, the DGX640 is the only instrument that can utilize the LP7 triple pedal option. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
@kraftmusic That is just plain wrong. The LP-7 was made to go with the YPG-635 in the first place, and it is 100% compatible with the DGX 630B and the DGX 640.
I can tell you from owning it that it is a wonderful keyboard, very playable, maybe not best for composing, but what amazing piano sounds it has.. For performance it's wow. If you're building a studio and are planning on a keyboard set, I would suggest:
DGX 640 for times when you're experimenting, and use a keystation for playing your vst on computer, and modular synths for building sounds :)
Are you able to take the actual keyboard off the stand with the pedal? I'm just wondering because this is the keyboard that i want and wondering if i can take it to friends houses.
Thanks for your interest in Kraft Music and the Yamaha DGX640. Yes, you can definitely take the Yamaha DGX640 off the furniture-style stand. It attaches with four bolts and is easily detached for portable use. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns.
Thanks for your interest. The DGX640 COMPLETE HOME BUNDLE is currently priced at $909.99 and does include a wooden piano-style bench. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
is there a way to connect the dgx to the pc usb but not as a midi device ? i mean as a sound over usb not midi over usb, so i can just record on the pc the real voice of the dgx ?
Thanks for your interest. The USB port on the DGX640 only allows you to send MIDI information, it's not possible to send digital audio through USB on the DGX640. You would need to take the audio outputs of the DGX and plug them into audio inputs on your computer.
Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Just bought the Yamaha DGX-640 in light cherry at Kraft Music. I'll get the digital piano on Tuesday, Oct. 5, 2010. I can't wait!!!! 3 more days to go.......
Hi, All the pieces you hear in this video are original compositions by our own Adam Berzowski. Adam is continuously writing, recording and performing in the greater Milwaukee area. You can listen to some of his music at the following links: myspace dot com/alphalocomotive myspace dot com/accessiblejazz myspace dot com/alphatransit myspace dot com/bluestraindown myspace dot com/berzowski Thanks for watching!
The DGX640 utilizes a USB connection for computer connectivity, eliminating the need for a USB/MIDI interface. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.
Shipping time on this unit will be about 2-5 business days via fully insured UPS ground. The DGX640 comes with the keyboard, music rest, keyboard stand, footswitch, and power supply. Depending on which KRAFT MUSIC BUNDLE you choose, you will also receive extras like headphones, a bench, carrying bag, etc. Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.

I am in doubt whether I buy the Yamaha DGX 640 or the Yamaha YDP 161.
I played on the Yamaha DGX 630 for about 2 years.
I'm not a real fan of all those different sounds, all I care about is the Grand Piano sound.
Which piano would be better for me? Don't mind the prices.
Thanks in advance.

MyDjOnix 3 months ago
Hi, I am really confused selecting between three keyboards - Yamaha DGX 640, Yamaha MM8 & Casio WK 7500. I am an amateur player of melodies & light classical songs and do compositions sometimes. I need for varieties of sounds, drum beat patterns (including user defined beats) and recording features. I observed Casio has more features where you can record voice too costs only $400. DGX 640 piano sounds really good when you play but when I played & heard through speakers I found it far from real.
stormynite6 3 months ago
If you had to rate this piano based on the feel of the keys compared to an original grand piano, what would it be? (1-10) I'm planning on purchasing a piano but I can't afford the big grand pianos so I have to get a keyboard. Which one would you recommend?
chrisisawesome94 3 months ago
@chrisisawesome94
Please feel free to contact me with any other questions or concerns.

how does key action compare to p155?
leekaiwei 4 months ago
@leekaiwei
Hi,
Thanks for your interest in the Yamaha DGX640 and P155.

@servant869

Thanks!

Hey Dave,
I was wondering how this stacks up towards the P155.
Thanks.
TheChondriac 5 months ago
@TheChondriac

The keyboard was recorded direct without any eq, compression, or processing. It's a pretty accurate representation of how the board will sound when played through headphones or for recording. I'm debating between this and the yamaha P95. The main issue is price but the feel of the keys is better on the DGX. Do you know if the graded hammer depreciates over time?
dgr1217 10 months ago
