awww, I took care of 2 baby squirrels too that fell out of a tree and were abandoned by there mom, my favorite part about raising them was when their tails finally fluffed and their personalities started to come out when they used them for tricks and stuff like Dale, sorry about Chip :(

I just stumbled upon some of your squirrel clips, and want to thank you for the fond memories it prompted for me,
when I was a kid, we had a pet squirrel named Gilligan, all was well until he accidentally jumped into an open can of paint and then took off never to be seen again ...
To this day (30 some years later) I still recall the fateful day Gilligan ran off, I loved him so much!
@JinkinOsawri I released Dale back into the wild last year - at a park across the street from me, and for the first few weeks I'd see him all the time.
BTW , Dale is a cool fella...I have always loved squirrels...your first video made me "get into " them , I keep my distance and let them stay wild...they wait for me in the trees and when I reach my porch they shoot down and eat the little gifts I leave them..I have enough food for them for about 4 days if it should snow here and cover their acorns they have burried...anyway , take care and never stop loving with your heart...God lends us his Angels and sometimes he takes them back.

I totally agree with what you said about hunting the little fellas , I would never do it, not even for survival . I was a US.Marine Scout / Sniper for 15 yrs so its hard for me to say this but I am going too , I love Human Beings such as yourself . Absolutely adorable! I once had a couple of ferrets and together they were not as enegetic as Dale. Squirrels are soooo acrobatic and very intelligent. They circumvent obsticals to get food and it dosent matter if the obstical is man made or natural. Amazing animals, thank you for sharing.

I feed squirrels almost every day, and there is one that comes most frequent. They do look different from each other after a while of watching them. I could never even dream of holding on in my hands like you do. They are absolutely adorable! Thank you for sharing your videos! (:

Chip was a darling, but Dale is a lovely little guy too. I think your videos prove the misconception that certain animals shouldn't be kept as pets--at least in the case of squirrels.
@totallytommy Hey are you sure Chip didn't suffer from Metabolic Bone Disease? It's common in pet squirrels because of their need for calcium and vit D. Seizures is a good clue. Please check out the squirrel forum to learn how to properly feed them. I miss my Gracie squirrel (she was released) - Dale's very cute! My girl was an Eastern Grey. :)
So sorry to hear about Chip Tommy. =( I know what it's like to lose an animal you love. I've never quite understood how someone can kill anything that's so relatable... even Deer. While they might not be very bright mentally, they're still a beautiful form of wildlife. Hunting's really.. a waste in my eyes. It's really a sadistic mentality. For the next 5 years I watched her grow up and get her own litter - I believe her children still to this day run around my yard and the nearby area. This was over 10 years ago. I completely understand what you mean by the "bond" you share with such a unique animal - they are part of the rodent family, but I never look at them that way. Long live squirrels!

Chip was a more docile little bugger, always cuddling up to you, while Dale is more of a little acrobat/dare devil, xD I love their different personalities, and I hope you post more of this little guy too :3

I want a pet squirrel but I can't get onr Most squirrels do look alike unless you really look at them, you can tell be personality though. I like Chip because he was more of a tea cup dog squirrel. @LM632 We don't really know - it's possible he may have had something wrong with him from birth - one day he went into a seizure, then calmed down in my hands, and slowly went to sleep.

And if there is a heaven, I'm pretty sure animals have a better shot at getting in than most people, so you will see him again someday. Health and happiness to you both and to Dale.
@totallytommy Did he went to sleep and died just right in your hands? If he did it was the hightest love pet could feel to human, I believe. It's very rare even among pets like cats and dogs, not to mention squirrels.

@smokedu454 When we can find him - somewhat. He'll walk right past me like I'm just a part of the scenery, but he won't climb on me or anything. He's also a LOT slower moving than the other squirrels in the area, and at first he was getting picked on quite bit.

you lost chip due to calcium defeciency? Well if thats the case, be sure to consult the medical pros fot the correct formula to feeding these squirrels. It is better they not take human food which lacks minerals that r required in squirrel body. Hope dale is doing great. Check out their food, or with other squirrel pet owners....

squirrel's arey. it's a squirrel's kingdom in my area. they've been hanging on in this big tree in my backyard & i was lucky enough to witness 3 squirrels grooming each other in a line, and 1 running along a thin fence. i put nuts in the tree they were residing at and i was lucky enough to witness 1 munching on them in the tree, then climbs down to pick up the ones it dropped from the tree !
im sorry to hear about chip, but infortunatley squirrels tend to have seizers alot of time because of a calcium defeciency. Check with you local vet about a calcium supplement.
For all those who have asked about Da Chipster; unfortunately he died. He had a seizure. It was one of the sadest days I've ever experienced. Chip was abandoned by it's mother, and quite probably intentionally - we think something might have been wrong with Chip - though not to me. Chip was the best pet I could've ever imagined, and I still miss the lil guy. (I say guy because I thought he was a guy, and it was only when I got Dale, that I realized; Chip was a female.)
*insert sad face here* Even though i first learned about chip 15 minutes ago, i feel your loss and i am sorry to hear of his death. i know what it feels like to loose a pet. It feels like you just lost a true friend.

@totallytommy I'm so sorry to hear about Chipster...I just saw his videos tonight! Well, he was lucky to have people that cared about him, and he knew it. And if there is a heaven, I'm pretty sure animals have a better shot at getting in than most people, so you will see him again someday. Health and happiness to you both and to Dale.

@totallytommy Did he went to sleep and died just right in your hands? If he did it was the hightest love pet could feel to human, I believe. It's very rare even among pets like cats and dogs, not to mention squirrels.

People like to see such things, even if they doesn't know the meaning of love and never loved anybody. Chip treated you like a closest friend, it's uniquely, squirrels doesn't usually do that way - they are very self-determined. Your hands was Chip's best place in the world. You are very lucky man or maybe you have a gift to communicate with squirrels.. Anyway, good luck!

About 6 months ago, I set Dale free at a very large - and bursting with trees - park, across the street from me, and he's doing quite well.

@smokedu454 When we can find him - somewhat. He'll walk right past me like I'm just a part of the scenery, but he won't climb on me or anything. He's also a LOT slower moving than the other squirrels in the area, and at first he was getting picked on quite bit.

you lost chip due to calcium defeciency? Well if thats the case, be sure to consult the medical pros fot the correct formula to feeding these squirrels. It is better they not take human food which lacks minerals that r required in squirrel body. Hope dale is doing great. Check out their food, or with other squirrel pet owners....

wow! Dale is so cute! I was living in NC and there were lot of them at the backyard, I was so happy to see them, We dont have squirrels in my country! (Chile) so it was a very special experience. I am sure you are a very special person cause you have that connection with this beautiful animal.

squirrel's arey. it's a squirrel's kingdom in my area. they've been hanging on in this big tree in my backyard & i was lucky enough to witness 3 squirrels grooming each other in a line, and 1 running along a thin fence. i put nuts in the tree they were residing at and i was lucky enough to witness 1 munching on them in the tree, then climbs down to pick up the ones it dropped from the tree !

im sorry to hear about chip, but infortunatley squirrels tend to have seizers alot of time because of a calcium defeciency. Check with you local vet about a calcium supplement.

For all those who have asked about Da Chipster; unfortunately he died. He had a seizure. It was one of the sadest days I've ever experienced. Chip was abandoned by it's mother, and quite probably intentionally - we think something might have been wrong with Chip - though not to me. Chip was the best pet I could've ever imagined, and I still miss the lil guy. (I say guy because I thought he was a guy, and it was only when I got Dale, that I realized; Chip was a female.)
