Why didn't he simply shoot him rather than kill and maim others he had laughed and drank with by bombing. 130 000 Germans were executed due to political reasons (not including Jews), ca 30 000 of them because of acts of resistance.

His opposition to concentration camps and extermination was based on moral issues. When he found out about mass executions of Jews he expressed disgust and said that Hitler must be removed. OF COURSE he never wrote his true opinion in his letters! It would have been too dangerous, because letters could be read by Nazis! He was not an idiot.

I wrote this number because I often read nonsense like that there were hardly any opponents in Germany, only very few. Nazis created an atmophere of fear. Especially in war times many were executed.
And ca 3 million German were imprisoned in jail of concentration camps because of political reasons.

Most lived in big cities, above all in Berlin. There is detailed research about this issue by the historian P. Longerich. He found out that there were indeed Germans who did not know, but yes, many just prefered not to know too much. Indeed many did not tell the truth after war, but you cant impute this to all.

@bpiotrAgain Borders 1914 were not possible anymore. The result of an successful plot would have been an unconditional surrender, and the plotters knew this. They had not got any concessions by the Allies.
There exists a written "appeal to the German people" by the plotters. It would have been read in the radio in case of success. One point is, that is was a shame what happened to the Jews and that they should become German citizens with equal rights like all others again.

Stauffenberg was a National Socialist. Had it gone according to his will, so it would have never had a Konrad Adenauer as chancellor, and all his successors. He wanted to end the war by Germany and save what can still be saved and prevent the advance of the Red Army on Reich territory under all circumstances .

This was a great vid. Claus is truly a German hero to be remembered. The movie Valkyrie really proved it. The movie made me cry, because he was so close, and Hitler's atrocities would've been ended....RIP Claus, you are to be remembered for a LONG time!
