You know how somedays you listen to a song, and it acts as a coat of armour, keeping you in a great mood all day. This song was my coat of armour today :)
The more experiences I have in life the more I become conscious of my own ignorance. I’m not sure if I know anything. All I know is what I feel and I’m not even sure of that half the time." - Matt Johnson
BRILLIANTLY said ... Matt Johnson is not just a legend but a thought-provoking genius too! I could hear this song on a constant loop and never tire of it because it's just that good.

I forgot how much of a cutie he is in addition to his awesomely strong voice. He has a contagious smile. I love the lyrics too. One of my all-time favorites! The lyrics ring so true to my mental state right now. Love the stuff he did for "Hanky Panky" too. My grandma had a picture of Hank Williams in her old B&W photos. Check out "I Saw The Light" among others. Brings back memories ...
You've gotta work out your own salvation. With no explanation to this Earth we fall On hands & knees we crawl And we look up to the stars And we reach out & pray To a deaf, dumb & blind God who never explains. Every body knows what's going wrong with the world But I don't even know what's going on in myself. Lord, I've been here for so long I can feel it coming down on me I'm just a slow emotion replay of somebody I used to be.
to all of you who want to know what the man is crying about at about3;19 or so,...it's a clip of the night that Bobby Kennedy got shot in L.A. back in 1968...remember seeing it back then...jesus, I'm old!
Matt Johnson's output was always kind of uneven (His Hank Williams cover album is definitely worth a listen), but the two albums he did with Marr onboard The The were both pure poetry.....

ridiculos band name !! LOL
The story: A British act decided to come up with a band name even more ironically detached than the Band, just to make Robbie Robertson feel like an asshole.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Why it's ridiculous: A band name this overtly meta is bound to either leave most people reenacting an annoying version of the Abbott and Costello routine or presuming you have a stutter. It also displays a level of pretentiousness that triggers an innate defense mechanism in most human beings to avoid your smug little dipshit band at all costs. (It's also not terribly smart to choose a name guaranteed to make it impossible for people to Google you.) hahaha
Once upon a time in the UK....always loved the harmonica playing of Matt...and i like this song...love the Annie Sprinkle cameo...what a party that must of been...Where are they now...???
Matt didn't play the harmonica, I think the gorgeousJohnny Marr did when he was in the band. He definitely is in this video plus The Beat(en) Generation and Dogs Of Lust... They got another harmonica player after he left.
Top TOP tune. Yet again Matt Johnson nails the frustration and bafflement that I feel with our so-called leaders whilst blowing me away with a brilliantly hooky tune.

Johnny Marr is credited with the harmonica for this song on the "Dusk" album.
And since you mention it, it is very similar to the John Peel version of "Still Ill" that is on the "Hatful Of Hollow" album.

I taught myself to play that bit on the harmonica. Only tune I can play on the damn thing other than the theme from "Jaws".
