Halo ODST start off from a point you might remember in Halo 2 where the Covenant Ship Jumped into slip space and Miranda Keys followed it... that's where Halo ODST begins. Yes, the covenant were looking for a forerunner structure they call the Ark... The Ark was discovered in New Mombasa by the AI that runs the city called Virgil... that you can find in the ODST game. If you play Tsavo Highway in Halo 3, you will see the end of Halo ODST.
