  • Living in Philly myself, the government officials are are really paranoid about guns in general. At least once every other week around the college I went to someone was always robbed. But Philly's problems run much deeper than gun ownership. Strict gun laws won't do shit.

  • LOL gang members killing gang members, lets train them to be better shooters so they can be better at shooting each other rather then killing innocent people and not get in the way of people who should own guns. WAKE UP LEFTY'S FIX THE GANG PROBLEM !

  • I live in Oakland CA. Here it is illegal to own assault weapons, yet gangsters routinely use machine guns and assault rifles to shoot eachother and innocents in Oakland. Therefore Diane Fienstine and her anti constitutional friends have failed, yet again.

  • I don't think so..........I have to pay a fee and registration of my guns because of a bunch of animals don't know how to act.

  • If they really want to stop all the killing down there all they need to revamp the self-defense law so you can be secure in your person, place, things not have to worry if you do any thing to protect your self, place and thing soyou don’t go to jail.

  • Second you get the cops to stop saying “it the cops job”. Admit that they do not have the precognitive ability and don’t know when a crime is about to go down. So it will take 10 to 20 minuets to respond if called. So the citizen will have to take action to be secure in their person place and things. If the city does it will take 6 mounts to stop the violence

  • Im the biggest proponent of gun laws you will find and i live right outside of philadelphia. I say let the local governments pass whatever laws they feel like. No reason to bring the feds or the state government to make a blanket law that restricts law abiding citizens. Phila has a major problem, will stronger gun laws in phila stop crime? No. Will they get off the states back pushing for more gun laws? Yes. let them do whatever they want.

  • @ 2:21 Steve Capelli is 99% correct.

    Philadelphia is experiencing "multicultural" genocide.

  • gun bans & laws NEVER NEVER NEVER affect criminals....... never. they don't follow the law or rules anyways morons. all it does is unarm regular citizens & render them very vulnerable

  • I love guns.

  • Thank god for preemption.

  • It seems to me that any municipality that insists that victims of violent crime be unarmed at the time they are attacked is an accessory to that crime. If they forbid the basic essentials of personal defencethey must provide individualized security. How efficient are the Philedelphia police? In a logical world, the city ould be held accountable for each death that could have been prevented if the victim was armed, as secured by an enumerated and uninfringable right.

  • WRONG the reason Philidelphia has such a high crime rate is because it is overrun with gangs. Italian maffia, Russian Maffia, Chinese Maffia, every other maffia. Gangs: Bloods, Crips, Latin Kings, etc. Biker Gangs: Hell's angels, Pagans, etc. Hell, the government is about as bad as the crime is anyways. As if any on those gang members is going to give two shits about gun laws. They're trying to connect two completely unrelated things here 2+2=5 in Philly i guess.

  • What a bunch of idiots. Gun control laws do not keep guns out of the hands of criminals. 1 gun a month does not stop criminals from buying guns. $10 a year registration fees do not stop criminals from possessing guns.

It's the criminals murdering people, and something tells me those criminals are legally purchasing their fire arms. How does stopping good citizens from purchasing firearms stop crime?

  • I don't care what anyone says... registration leads to collection period !!!

  • yup, thats how it happend in canada

  • Even if it DID work (which it won't) its still the wrong thing to do. Philadelphia is asserting greater rights over its jurisdiction than any other city would be entitled to. Sorry, but that's a violation the principle behind equal protection.

  • if criminals are smuggling cocaine into the united states on submarines. do you think more gun control laws is going to stop them?

  • Criminals are NOT going to listen to those laws. Even if they can't buy them in Philly, they can smuggle them in from any place else very easily. Ask Detroit, NY, Chicago, and DC. They'll tell you about their murder rates. And they have some of the most strict gun control laws in the US (except for DC, which recently lifted their ban.)

  • Philly's problem lies within city hall and the D.A.'s office.

  • What a bunch of misguided city leaders.

Philly has a problem with CRIMINALS! Deal with the CRIMINALS! DO away with the parole process. Make them serve the whole sentence!

  • No locality should have the right to make up it's own gun laws. In a perfect world the Second Amendment would actually mean something and there would be no government infringement on the rights of law-abiding citizens, but until that happens it's important for gun owners to fight back against "home rule" when it comes to gun laws.

  • Philly is 10% a beautiful and historical city, 90% a ghetto shithole. Maybe the number of shooting deaths has more to do with all the gang-bangers and thugs (who most likely own ILLEGAL guns) than it has to do with gun laws. Murder is a crime, find them, arrest them and throw away the key. The problem will decrease as armed citizens increase. The high murder rate is even more evidence that they need less restrictive gun laws in Philly, so prople can defend themselves.

  • Oh, and this was also a really biased report. It doesn't document any cases of where pro-gun laws have lowered crime rates, just ONE situation where it (presuming they aren't fudging their facts a little), may have raised them or had a neutral effect. Take a look at Switzerland. They let their people own automatics, and almost every home has at LEAST one gun there, yet the crime rate is practically non-existant.

  • @ChampionofLiberty - Look at per capital income & average household worth. Also compare education verse our own. I believe the answers will find themselves

  • There is no conclusive proof that the gun control laws the city wants have any effects on violent crime. Waiting periods, etc, none of it does squat. If you want a gun law that will reduce crime, pass a law that mandates that EVERYONE own guns. Within a couple years, the crime rate will have fallen so low nobody will bother keeping track of it anymore, and everyone will then be safer. A locality in Georgia did it, and they experianced drops in violent crime of around 80-90%.

  • Yeah so law abiding citizens will be disarmed and the criminals will keep there ILLEGAL firearms. They don't have them legally so what makes you think they wont keep them illegally? Civilians should protect themselves it is nobody else's job. If you refuse to protect yourself don't bitch when something happens to you.

  • You think that will stop criminals from getting guns? They already have them illegally, and will not give them up you stupid moron. Guns are not the cause of gun violence. People who are criminals or psychopahts and illegally have guns are the cause of gun violence.

  • If gun laws worked so good why are there so many shootings here in Chicago???...Its illegal to have a pistol here but that shit dont stop the gangs.

  • @SuicideKing187 gun control was created specifically to discriminate against black people.if you support gun control you are a racist.the people that made those laws are racist and they want the blacks to kill themselves off.saves them the trouble.

  • 1) Criminals don't obey gun laws. Gun laws never reduce crime.

    2) State preemption is a good thing. It prevents cities like Philadelphia from passing laws that violate rights guaranteed by the state.

  • Exactly Paopencarry. There's a reason that every state which has passed a Right to Carry law has experianced a drop in violent crime.

More armed lawful citizens = more criminals getting shot = more frightened criminals = less crime. Simple stuff.
